To say that recent McCartney revelations have ruined the Beatles for me?

The recent 'group masturbation' news item from Paul McCartney bleached my eyes. I was born in the 70s but raised on 60s music meaning that rather than be a Stock Aitken Waterman follower in the 80s I was avidly listening to 60s original vinyls of the Beatles, Hollies and so on. I can't listen to Beatles songs now without wondering if it was a song inspired by those 'sessions'....OH and I've just thought about the band name 😮.... My world is crumbling.....

l was hoping somebody would bring this up! 'Paul' was a gentleman and would never have said stuff like this. This imposter is a disgusting old man.

woodhill · 15/09/2018 20:37

Love the Beatles but yes it is a bit yuck

I get by with a little help from my friends lyrics are a bit meh

To those who say their music was shite, seriously every single one of these listed is rubbish? I mean they’re kind of varied.

SmilingButClueless · 15/09/2018 20:52

We were talking, about the love we all could share
When we find it, to try our best to hold it there, with our love
With our love we could save the world, if they only knew

It amazes me that people expect The Beatles to have been choirboys or something, lol.

They cut their teeth in strip clubs run by gangsters in Hamburg's red light district before George was even 18, and a few years later were the most desired men on the planet with half the world flinging themselves at them. John described their tours as being 'like Fellini's Satyricon'.

Paul's describing baby stuff in this article - what they got up to as 14/15 year old schoolboys (though Victor Spinetti did say they were still doing it while they were filming 'Help' in 1965).

Why any of this stuff would 'ruin The Beatles' for anyone is a complete mystery to me. Who cares, honestly? Yet people do.

I found his 'revelation' disgusting, especially now John can't defend himself

Or George!

deepbluesea18 · 15/09/2018 22:34

Defend himself - are you kidding?

John (who had the biggest mouth of the lot of them) blabbed all this to Rolling Stone magazine in 1970.

And George was a serial philanderer. He cheated on both his wives endlessly and even broke up Ringo's marriage by having an affair with Maureen.

Angels they were not ...

deepbluesea18 · 15/09/2018 22:43

By the way, John was obsessed with Paul. Everyone who read his diaries from the 1970's said the same thing - every other word was about Paul.

kierenthecommunity · 15/09/2018 22:48

Not that I’m defending George as that’s pretty shitty behaviour towards your mate, but apparently Ringo was awful to his missus too and she was really unhappy with him.

Lovely bunch of guys weren’t they? 😂

deepbluesea18 · 15/09/2018 22:59

George was vile. Horrible, horrible man. Bitter and jealous of Paul 'til his dying day.

All because Paul could do everything faster and better than him. And because John loved Paul more.

I'm not Ringo's biggest fan, but I think he truly loved Maureen. From what I read, he was there when she died.

bluebell34567 · 15/09/2018 23:02

he has lots and lots of money why does he need attention still to sell more music. how can they be so greedy? what more do they want to achieve? is it a race of who is more rich?

Gersemi · 15/09/2018 23:02

Catspyjamazzz, Paul doesn't have a need to be famous. He is famous. He's never not going to be famous. If he tried his utmost to disappear from human view, he would still be famous.

This sort of claim always astonishes me. I saw an instance recently where someone claimed that J K Rowling was desperate to make money. The woman is incredibly rich, she's given away millions of pounds, she will have the money rolling in for the rest of her life if she never does anything resembling work ever again, why would she be desperate to make money?

I can only assume that some people can't conceive of a situation where a well-known individual has no need or wish to try to be richer or more famous because they are already as rich or as famous as it is practically possible to be. It's terribly narrow-minded.

NastyCats · 15/09/2018 23:06

I find Paul McCartney 's 'If you come onto me, I'll come on to you' single really very creepy and icky.

I think a lot of celebrities could do with sharing a little less...

groundcontroltomontydon · 15/09/2018 23:07

""He's got a new album out.""
Is that why he revealed this eleven years ago?
It's a slow burner

Still holding out to know who Derek is*

Me too... Derek, Derek....WTF is Derek?? 🤷‍♀️

roadrunner11 · 16/09/2018 00:17

The Beatles were massively sexed up. They had 90% of the world's teenagers gagging for them.

DerekHere · 16/09/2018 00:26

Where's my royalties you wanker?

BartholinsSister · 16/09/2018 00:29

Records are not 'vinyls', OP.

FinnegansWhiskers · 16/09/2018 00:51

So was Tom Jones at his wife's bedside when she died.

That didn't stop him dipping his wick throughout their marriage 😕

deepbluesea18 · 16/09/2018 02:08

Well, maybe so. But Maureen died years after they divorced and they had both married again.

Don't get me wrong - I don't particularly like Ringo. But I do think he loved Maureen.

Handbaghag · 16/09/2018 09:09

Oh ok, my sincere apologies. I was simply emphasising they weren't cassettes or CDs. The word records may have been ambiguous to some...Hmm

I don’t think Paul is famous with young people. Didn’t he play on some award show with Jay Z and Twitter was full of ‘whose the old guy’.
