Not aibu but my friend. She went to fill up her car and had to wait behind the car using it as expected.Man goes in to pay and doesn't reappear for a fair amount of time, friend is in a hurry. When he does return he's got 3 bags of shopping and a bunch of flowers so my friend goes "Are they for me?" Man says " No they're for my wife" she says "oh I thought they must be for me as an apology seeing as you've done all that shopping whilst I've waited to fill my car up,you should have parked up elsewhere!"
Was she in the right and he was being a CF or was she being unreasonable and he had every right to get whatever shopping he wanted ? I can see both sides tbf

I am struggling to believe that there was only the one pump available, so she could have moved to get to another one, and if it was that busy, he probably spent most of the time queuing and very little actually shopping.

CrochetBelle · 14/09/2018 16:28

I'd have thought your friend a mouthy cow.

If they sell stuff in the petrol station, surely it's because some people may actually buy it.

flumpybear · 14/09/2018 16:29

Why didn't she move pump? No sympathy!

Boyskeepswinging · 14/09/2018 16:30

Why didn't she just move onto another pump? I often see this at petrol stations - everyone queuing up like lemmings to use the first couple of pumps whilst the further away pumps are empty.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 14/09/2018 16:30

Did she really say ‘are they for me?’? Shock

Finfintytint · 14/09/2018 16:31

I'd have moved to another pump. No need for your friend's rudeness.

tillytrotter1 · 14/09/2018 16:31

I hope he was one of those who take ages to sort themselves out, put their seat belt on and start the car, maybe stalled a couple of times. Entitled attitude or what!

CloudCaptain · 14/09/2018 16:32

Ugh your friend sounds horrible. Poor guy. Did she think she was funny?
Just use another pump. Her own fault for queueing too close.

therealimposter · 14/09/2018 16:33

You were Your friend was very rude.

woodhill · 14/09/2018 16:33

I think he was selfish and should have parked somewhere else but I suppose he wanted to buy everything in one transaction

SlipperyLizard · 14/09/2018 16:33

She wouldn’t have been able to use the pump until he’d paid anyway, surely?

Marie0 · 14/09/2018 16:33

Lol - what is worse is people who park at the pump to pick up a sandwich and don't even put any petrol in their car!

NoSquirrels · 14/09/2018 16:34

If you drive off from the pump, though, without paying, you cause the poor cashier an issue. Might have been nice of him to move up a bit if it was super busy but it’s just one of those things, isn’t it, having to queue at a petrol station. Your friend should’ve left herself more time to spare.

ManorGreyhound · 14/09/2018 16:34

You're not supposed to move your car before you've paid!

Ive seen someone do this causing an attendant to sprint out of the shop, notepad in hand. The cost of a stolen tank of fuel often comes out of the attendant's wages...

Your friend was VU, and should be more careful her personal safety given the levels of general misogyny around these days...

AnnieAnoniMoose · 14/09/2018 16:34

Well, I think it’s a total PITA when someone does that, but if you go to a petrol station that has a mini supermarket it sometimes happens. Most people wouldn’t want to go in and pay fir their petrol, move their car, go back inside for shopping, just so they don’t inconvenience someone else - that’s life.

NerrSnerr · 14/09/2018 16:34

Was there only one pump at the petrol station? Why didn't she use another?

RedneckStumpy · 14/09/2018 16:35

She had the ability to move and rectify the situation. She didn’t, it’s her problem not his.

JacquesHammer · 14/09/2018 16:35

If they see anyone come in and try to shop before paying for petrol the assitants leap on them at ours and ask them to pay for petrol, move their car and then shop.

It's smashing.

There are loads of spaces you can move your car to if you want to shop. They encourage people to do so (before they pay for petrol so no hardship).

Kidssendingmenuts · 14/09/2018 16:35

Your friend was rude, she could of gone to another pump. Unfortunately that's what happens when there's a shop with the petrol place. You start with one thing and end up with tons of shit you don't actually need 😂😂

liverbird79 · 14/09/2018 16:35

A man came in and roared at me for shopping in a Tesco express petrol station.

He got roared right back at to fuck off and use one of the other six EMPTY pumps.

He called me a stupid bitch and the lovely Tesco security threw him out and wouldn't serve him.

If there had been a queue I'd of moved to a space (if there was one available).

If the other pumps were empty I wouldn't but I would say I'm getting bits and pieces also not just paying for fuel.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/09/2018 16:35

I worry that if I park elsewhere, they'll think I'm trying to do a runner, but that's why I also don't shop when I'm buying petrol, so splinters on the fence here.

MozzchopsThirty · 14/09/2018 16:36

I don't think your friend was rude
I'd say something similar
He was a selfish dick

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 14/09/2018 16:37

To be fair this really pisses me off. Our local petrol station is an M&S Simply Food, and it's a right PITA to pull up behind a car who then goes and does a weekly shop. It's not always easy to reverse back and change pumps, because of traffic or because it's so busy.

So your friend was NBU.

Sirzy · 14/09/2018 16:37

It would have taken me ages to get the shopping into the car if someone spoke to me like that!

Fatted · 14/09/2018 16:37

Just use another pump surely?! Or would that have meant she would have had to, God forbid, pull the cable across to the other side?!
