To want to know what day of the week my bins are collected?

Is it really unreasonable? Bin collections have always been hit and miss here, sometimes they are collected on a Tuesday, sometimes a Wednesday, occasionally a Thursday and I quite often have to submit a 'missed collection' form.

I had a conversation with the refuse collectors about 10 days ago who assured me our collection day was a Tuesday so, as we are first on the round (always collected by 7am no matter what day they come), we duly hauled the bin down the track on Monday night. Came home from work late Tuesday night to find the full bin where we left it so submitted a missed collection form. The phone rang yesterday and an employee from the council informed me it wasn't a missed collection as our day is Thursday. I queried this with him saying that we had been informed it was Tuesdays, he put me on hold for a minute then came back on the line to confess that no-one knows which round collects our bin or indeed on what day of the week! I called them back today and still no-one knows.

AIBU to want to know when to stick my bins out? Grin

That’s disgusting! I know what day my bibs are collected. Why is it so difficult to tell you? Complain to the council.

LongSummerDays · 13/09/2018 17:42

Ours is on the council website, worth checking there (if you haven't already?) or ask a neighbour.

HopeGarden · 13/09/2018 17:44

Surely someone must know? How else would your bins ever get collected?

Our council website also lets us check our bin collection dates.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 13/09/2018 17:46

Our local council website has a timetable for bin collections which can be downloaded and stuck on the fridge. Surely yours must have something similar they can't not know?? Confused

Believeitornot · 13/09/2018 17:47

Make a complaint to your local councillor!!!

PattiStanger · 13/09/2018 17:47

You must be extremely easily disgusted angrybird, in what way does the council being a bit rubbish at organising the bin round induce disgust?

Obviously it's crappy service from the council, not sure what you can do other than keep calling and raising the issue with more senior staff.

Go back to the council website, get the details of your councillors and contact them to let them know what the problem is. Let them know who else it affects: is it your whole street?
Then ask them to sort it out.

The only thing our website tells us is whether it is a recycling collection week or a general household rubbish, there is no way of checking which day is our collection day online.

Our nearest neighbour has dementia and has no idea, his bins are left by his gate and our lovely old binmen used to just go and collect his bins without disturbing him. We live in a rural location and the big house at the end of the lane has a commercial collection as it is a nursing home.

I have had several conversations with various people in the council over the last day and a bit and no-one knows. We fall between two rounds it seems and no-one is sure which round covers our lane, we are a couple of houses that sit on a little lane and the crew that used to collect our bins on a Wednesday did it as they passed by on their way to another round but the driver of that round no longer does it according the the refuse collector I spoke to a couple of weeks ago.

Are you sure it stays on the same day?
My bin collection changes every time we have a bank holiday as it moves by one day. So if the collection had been on a Tuesday but the Monday was a bank holiday then it would move to the Wednesday until the next BH when it would move again by one day.
