To think she was very rude

Done alot of walking today (about 2 and a half hours) I wanted to board the bus to pick up my children from the town centre to their school. I got on the bus and a woman with a double buggy (tandem one behind the other) was parked across the two spaces and immediately said to me “I have a double!” I looked at her abit confused as she was clearly
parking across the two spaces and was herself standing in the pram space making no attempt to move. She said “I could move it but” and finish the sentence! I ended up getting off and walking as she was cleary being a dick. Im in london for anyone that knows the lay out will know sometimes even prams can fit side by side and Ive had a double myself and it still allowed for other prams to fit on! aibu to think she was really rude?

Yes she was but you shouldn't have let her get away with it!

Celestia26 · 12/09/2018 16:31

Yes she was being a dick! I would have challenged her instead of walking though, she'll just keep doing it otherwise.

SinkGirl · 12/09/2018 16:33

I have two double buggies for my twins (both types) and unfortunately both take up the whole buggy space on buses here so I rarely ever take the bus even though I can’t drive. People can be really really shitty about it.

Creeper8 · 12/09/2018 16:33

I know but she had alot of attitude and honestly if I said anything it would have been an argument as I had my 2 kids with me thought it was best avoided! her kids looked atleast one, I bet she still gets on the bus if another pram is on and she doesnt wait for a completely empty bus as she “has a double and cant fit on with anyone else”

Creeper8 · 12/09/2018 16:34

sink girl it does not take up the whole space in london for a fact. I have been on the bus many a times with doubles even my own double!

I've noticed a lot of snotty entitled attitudes with people on buses with buggies. I don't think they realise how much they're embarrassing themselves.

WorraLiberty · 12/09/2018 17:09

She said “I could move it but”

Then you should have replied, "That'd be great, thanks" Confused

CrochetBelle · 12/09/2018 17:10

You could have folded?

Sirzy · 12/09/2018 17:12

Exactly what I thought worra not getting the issue really. If there was space and she she would move then no issue.

Creeper8 · 12/09/2018 17:15

not the same pram but this is an example of how she was parked (not the same bus either) if she had turn it the other way we both would have fit. she was also standing in the space, there was enough room. When she said could move it wasnt an offer put it that way

To think she was very rude
OP posts:
HeckyPeck · 12/09/2018 17:16

She was rude & selfish. I’d probably have waited for the next bus too

Sirzy · 12/09/2018 17:17

So you wanted her to turn it so it was sticking out in the aisle? I thought that was generally a no no?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 12/09/2018 17:18

I don't know why you got off.
She said she could move it, but obviously didn't really want to.
So you just needed to say, thanks, that would be great if you could

kaytee87 · 12/09/2018 17:19

So did you have a child in a buggy too and one walking? It's not clear from your op.
You should have just said 'yes that would be great thanks' when she said she could move it.

namechangedforthisone123 · 12/09/2018 17:20

I've often got onto a bus with my single pushchair and managed to fit in with a double buggy, both side by side and tandem. She was being totally unreasonable not to move herself! Actually I've been on the bus with a double buggy, me in a single and then another single too

Creeper8 · 12/09/2018 17:21

same pram but this is an example of how she was parked (not the same bus either) if she had turn it the other way we both would have fit. she was also standing in the space, there was enough room. She made no attempt to move. Why should I fold when there was space?

OP posts:
SinkGirl · 12/09/2018 17:22

Did she have an Oyster Max though? Because they’re very short, my inline buggy is much longer than this. I can’t turn it sideways as it would fill the aisle. It can only go in this orientation.

Belleende · 12/09/2018 17:25

You are going to be doing alot of walking if you don't get yourself a pair of big girl knickers pronto. I tend to take on a guide leader persona when trying to get my buggy on. "If you could just shift a little bit, sure there is room for us all to squeeze on, there you go, loads of room." People seem to obey instinctively

WelcomeToShootingStars · 12/09/2018 17:27

So why not speak to her? Was it really more preferable to get off, walk and then post about it on the Internet?

Creeper8 · 12/09/2018 17:27

she could have parked it diagonally behind the bar the pram she had is not the one in the picture it was a Phil and teds slightly smaller if she parked it diagonally against the bar it would not have stuck out when someone says they could move but they are not offering to move I think that’s quite clear. as others have said it’s perfectly possible to fit a double pram and a single one together side-by-side I’ve been on the bus all the time with doubles no one has ever had issue with it “sticking out”

OP posts:
Looneytune253 · 12/09/2018 17:28

Sorry but if she turned it it would go out into the aisle which you are absolutely not meant to do. I think it would have been much easier for you to fold your pushchair (or walk which you obv did)

Sirzy · 12/09/2018 17:28

So rather than either fold the pram or take her up on her offer to move you got off and walked? Cutting off your nose to spite your face surely?

WorraLiberty · 12/09/2018 17:30

Whether she was 'very rude' or not, depends on what she was going to say but as she didn't finish her sentence, we'll never really know.

"I could move but then I won't be able to hold onto my buggy, without blocking the aisle" (True on all London buses if you've got a double buggy that style).

"I could move but your child is old enough to jump out and sit on your lap" (Possible true but the OP has forgotten to tell us her DC's age).

Creeper8 · 12/09/2018 17:32

I had an Icandy peach which is larger than the Phil and teds and I still managed to fit mine in with other prams because I wasn’t a dick about it, she didn’t even attempt to try. as I said I had a double myself never stuck out no one had a problem with it or complained about it sticking out the driver never said anything nor did any other passengers as it still is the same size maybe slightly big ger than a single pram but only Just.

OP posts:
Ariela · 12/09/2018 17:32

When she said could move it wasnt an offer put it that way

I'd still pretend it was an offer, and like @WorraLiberty says, I'd have graciously (&loudly) accepted as though it was 'Oh thank you that is very kind of you'
