AIBU to not slap in a claim for my packaged bank account?

DH and I have had a packaged bank account since 2006 at least.

I can’t say it has bothered me dreadfully, it’s a joint one so we were both covered for a single fee. I have made two insurance claims over the years and have used the breakdown cover once or twice.

My friend has just gone through the process of claiming, despite having used the account benefits, and has had a payout. We are still clearing debts now and she thinks it is obvious that we should put in a claim.

WIBU to do this? I feel like it is unethical to slap in a claim when I haven’t really had a problem with the service. She argues that they were sold badly and the banks were therefore unethical. Who is right?

You are. People should read t&cs properly, and all this claiming will ultimately put prices up for everyone.

We have a packaged bank account, taken out in the last couple of years.

AFAIK you can only claim if they were mis-sold, so for example an account with breakdown cover, worldwide travel insurance and airport lounge access was sold to someone who didn't have a car and never left the UK. Or the "home emergency" policy to someone in council accommodation.

But if you knew what you were getting and are happy with it, of course you shouldn't claim.

Currently going through a PPI company. The only account that looks remotely like we might get a payout is a credit card (that we never asked for) attached to our bank account. I'm assuming this is the sort of thing you mean by packaged.
Just saying you might want to check that.

Lloyds rightly (IMO) wouldn't pay out on a packaged bank account claim when we had used the breakdown cover - their logic was if we didn't know we had it we wouldn't have used it.
I agree with this sentiment (it wasn't me who said to try and claim!!)

Ordinarily I’d agree about about a claim ‘for the sake of it’ but this is the banks we are talking about. They are the main cause for the current economic meltdown.

If they could take a few quid off of you, they would. So why not?

MrTrebus · 11/09/2018 17:19

@Bracknellite

Reallyyyyy?? OP ignore this. Banks only take money off you if you're crap with money therefore your own fault. Such a ridiculous "I pay my taxes" pathetic view. Don't claim, you chose to pay for the account, it suited your needs and you've used the benefits.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/09/2018 17:20

They would reject your claim anyway. It wasn't missold if you benefited from the cover/services provided.
