To ask what you think of Fleetwood Mac with Neil Finn

They sacked lead guitarist/singer Lindsay Buckingham and replaced him with Neil Finn (Crowded House/Splint Endz). The "new" Fleetwood Mac made their debut performance on Ellen the other day.

The Chain

Any thoughts?

Sorry - I meant Lindsey. Either way, he's a bloke.

Nope, sorry, definitely NOT loving this, couldn't even listen to the whole thing. Sad It was never the same when they replaced Lindsey with Billy and Rick years ago either.

Of course, not at all bitter that I've missed my chance at seeing FM with Christine AND Lindsey because I was too broke. Not at all

Muffinbutton · 11/09/2018 13:10

I've not seen it, but I've been wondering why their 'world' tour isn't coming to the UK.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/09/2018 13:10

Sacked him?

According to Neil Finn he was invited to join for part of their tour son was already part of their touring band.

I thought that Buckingham didn't want to do this tour, he says it will harm the band, the legacy, and he simply wanted to wait until next year - Mick Fleetwood joked he may not have another year! But they all wanted to go straight back out on tour.

It's not all that unusual in Mac... they sack each other, screw each other, break up and make up all the time!

Ladytron11 · 11/09/2018 13:12

As much as I like Neil, he ain't no Lindsey. Stevie came in a bit early there too, didn't she?!

Will I go to see them if they come to the UK? Probably...

Bring back Lindsey!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/09/2018 13:12

Crikey. I just watched the Ellen clip, Neil Finn is bloody good!

Not Buckingham, but ye gods, that is good!

Finnwood · 11/09/2018 13:13

Yay - a Mac fan!

Buffy - if you couldn't make it to the end of that clip, I'll save you the misery of Gypsy!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/09/2018 13:15

Oi! I AM a Mac fan... and a Split Endz/Crowded House fan.. and I have seen them all (sorry Buffy ).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/09/2018 13:16

I was going to add, the only thing that ruins Mac is Stevie, when she is being lazy/out of sorts.

Then again, I do prefer the original incarnation, so may be a bit biased Smile

Finnwood · 11/09/2018 13:17

Curious - they sacked Lindsey. His wife has been very vocal about it on social media.

Neil Finn (and Mike Campbell) haven't been invited to join for part of the tour. They are now officially in FM.

BuffysFavouriteStake · 11/09/2018 13:26

Finnwood - oh god, I almost want to see how bad it is!

Curious - its OK Wink always liked Crowded House myself, just not impressed with the combination! In fact we have Finns in our family tree, so have always wondered...

Always been a massive Lindsey fan, incredibly talented and often underrated.

Finnwood · 11/09/2018 13:30

Sorry, Curious, only Buffy had replied when I typed "Yay - a Mac fan!"

I don't know if they will come to Europe. Think it will depend on US sales which, I understand, are patchy at the moment. Might pick up after the Ellen performance ... or not.

Here's Stevie and the new Mac performing Gypsy

BuffysFavouriteStake · 11/09/2018 13:41

Oh. Dear. Gods.

Why is Stevie trying to 'interrpret' the lyrics with hand gestures?

Well, guess that's saved me the ticket cost this year!!

and I even flew to the USA to see them once (sobs)

Katiepoes · 11/09/2018 13:43

I like it! I'm going against the grain here though and as far as I'm concerned Fleetwood Mac are lucky to have Neil Finn if keeping Lindsey is not an option. I only have to hear Neil sing and it's 1992 and I am having a fabulous summer romance with a young german chap, all to the soundtrack of Temple Of Low Men. I was not sure how this would work, but it does.

(Now if I can just forget the horror that was the Corrs covering Dreams.)

Finnwood · 11/09/2018 13:44

The hand gestures are weird, aren't they?
I do love the fact that Stevie (70) and Christine (75) are still up there rockin'. Or maybe swayin' is more apt!

ChristmasIsMyFavourite · 11/09/2018 13:51

I thought he was great.

Willow2017 · 11/09/2018 14:13

I like it.
Of course it would be fab with the original group only but they have split, reformed, fell out, refused to work together, driven each other mad, got back together and so on for ever. Yet they still keep coming back. I would go see them in a heartbeat another one not really really desperately sad I never saw their last tour with Lindsy

I wanted to be Stevie when I grew up I still do

Finnwood · 11/09/2018 15:45

Stevie in her prime was absolutely exquisite. And her prime lasted well into her 50s.

I like Neil Finn but don't think they should have done The Chain - makes the lyrics ironic. And I don't think Neil and Mike should be Fleetwood Mac. It just looks wrong - think they should have gone for Fleetwood Mac with Special Guests ...

OP posts:
Babydontcry · 11/09/2018 20:35

I really wanted to love this as fleetwood Mac and crowded house are two of my all time favourite bands. It was ok but Neil is no Lindsey replacement. Why did they sack him?

Fisharesexy · 11/09/2018 21:53

Nope. Nope and did I say Nope!!!
Stevie Nicks has always been overrated.
Lindsey Buckingham is the real talent, his producing skills are fantastic. He made Fleetwood Mac great, the same as Peter Green before him.
They are my favourite band with Lindsey in and I'll never see them now😭😭😭

Finnwood · 11/09/2018 22:20

Babydontcry - Mick Fleetwood claims Lindsey wouldn't "sign off" on the tour that was scheduled for November. Apparently there was a huge falling out when the band were honoured at Musiccares earlier this year. Big row between Stevie and Lindsey (hard to believe, I know!) and Stevie allegedly said either he goes, or I go. Stevie's the one promoters believe puts bums on seats so Lindsey was fired. What a way to end their 43 year legacy Sad

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/09/2018 07:40

Mmm! I've read all sorts about this. Neil Finn was invited for part of the tour,.. then joined for the whole tour. He isn't part of Mac, he is part of The Tour. That is what he says and what Mick Fleetwood says about both of the new 'members'

Buckingham has made his usual sort of statements hasn't he Smile “For me, personally, probably some of you know that for the last three months I have sadly taken leave of my band of 43 years, Fleetwood Mac. This was not something that was really my doing or my choice.” The my band bit has caused problems before and I'd expect him to be back in the group next time they ht the studio.

But Neil Finn and Mike Campbell will probably retire from the fray at the end of the tour. Finn has said as much, he has other stuff going on with his son and his own music!

Basically it's just yet more of the usual Mac stuff. Part of the charm Grin
