Changing room etiquette: asked by staff to hanger the clothes

Lostkitty · 09/09/2018 23:24

I took four pieces of clothing to the changing room, selected two, and was trying to hand over the remaining two to the staff in the changing room alongwith the hangers when I was told to "hanger the clothes and then return" by the staff. Is it normal to hang the discarded clothes while out shopping and was I being U in handing those over to the staff without neatly hanging them back on?

Yes YABU, why shouldn't you put them back on ? You took them off !

PositivelyPERF · 09/09/2018 23:27

I always put the clothes back on the hangers. Why wouldn’t you?

60sname · 09/09/2018 23:27

I'm surprised they told you to do it, but yes, I'd say it is expected. If everyone was too lazy to rehang it it would cause queues to build up at the changing rooms.

QuestionableMouse · 09/09/2018 23:28

Bloody lazy not to do it. Also a bit presumptuous.

AnduinsGirl · 09/09/2018 23:28

How else would you return them other than back on the hangers?!

DramaAlpaca · 09/09/2018 23:29

It's only polite to put the clothes back on the hangers and it only takes a minute to do it.

Chickychoccyegg · 09/09/2018 23:29

hahaha, really? of course you put the clothes back on the hanger, so rude of you!!

EmilyR1984 · 09/09/2018 23:30

So you think the staff are being unreasonable to ask you to put the clothes back on the hangers?

I think your being lazy not to. Why wouldn't you put the clothes back on the hangers? It wouldn't even occur to me not to. You took them off, you put them back on.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 09/09/2018 23:30

You were unreasonable.

Aspenfrost · 09/09/2018 23:30

You return the items on the hangers. You must know that. Hmm

mum11970 · 09/09/2018 23:31

Of course you put the clothes back on the hanger yourself.

Medea13 · 09/09/2018 23:31

So unreasonable. Of course you should put them back on the hangers, you took them off.

theworldistoosmall · 09/09/2018 23:32

Why wouldn't you put the clothes back on the hangers?
You think they stand around waiting for entitled lazy arses such as you? If that was the case they wouldn't be able to help customers who needed help.

LoniceraJaponica · 09/09/2018 23:32

What did your last slave die of?

nancy75 · 09/09/2018 23:32

I used to work in a clothes shop, I’d never tell anyone to put stuff back on a hanger but I did think people were lazy if they didn’t bother

PhaedrasChocolate · 09/09/2018 23:32

It would never occur to me not to hang the stuff back on the hanger!

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/09/2018 23:32

Of course YWBU and lazy!

Fluffyears · 09/09/2018 23:33

Yes you rehang then hand the unwated hangers to staff. Why would they re-hang them? YABU

LittleBearPad · 09/09/2018 23:34

Of course you rehang them!

sizeofalentil · 09/09/2018 23:37

When I worked in a clothes shop we were told to either ask customers who did this to hang the clothes or to wait as we did, so that we could ensure that nothing had been stolen / swapped for their own old clothes / shat on.

AnduinsGirl · 09/09/2018 23:39

shat on
May have snorted my last dregs of wine there

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 09/09/2018 23:41

Ex retail staff here. Wouldn't have said that to you but would judge you. We're not your slaves. The state some people leave fitting rooms and clothes in though, can only imagine what their houses are like.

As an aside, was it h&m? The one I used to briefly work at had some pretty mouthy staff who'd definitely have said that! They're timed as to how fast they can standardise & clear a rail of fitting room returns- people like you are a pain in the ass.

melj1213 · 09/09/2018 23:41

YABU - return them as you found them.

The only time I ever don't hang something is when stores have awkward hangers - like the ones that have bulldog style clip tops will only hang trousers properly if you do some complicated folding of them first that you ideally need a flat surface to lay them on and that I struggle with as I have joint issues in some of my fingers due to breaks from an accident that make those clips hard to use.

I will always make a point of mentioning to the staff "Sorry, I tried to rehang them but I can't work the clips due to a hand injury so couldn't get them to go back on" and they are always grateful for the effort and tell me not to worry about it.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 09/09/2018 23:43

@AnduinsGirl pissed on, shat on, perioded on, spunked in the pockets... classy job, retail.

rainbowsandsmiles · 09/09/2018 23:44

It wouldn't even occur to me not to put the clothes back on the hanger - takes seconds!
What do you do,just hand them over in a pile of clothes and hangers to the assistant to do for you, or just dump them in a pile if there's noone around to take?
YABU.
