To not be able to find good quality white school polo shirts?

Can anyone recommend good quality shirts that won't shrink and get stained straight away.
I bought some from M&S and they have only been worn once last week, washed as stated I used stain remover etc but it still wasn't enough!
I thankfully only bought a couple so need to buy more anyway, I don't mind paying more if they will last longer.

Got ds from Sainsburys and they’ve washed well after the first week back. Got them during 25% off sale but even without the discount they’re v cheap

Gap!

MissusGeneHunt · 09/09/2018 21:17

Yup, Sainsburys or Asda. DS's have lasted well!

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 09/09/2018 21:19

Tesco are pretty good. The best stain remover I've come across is Vanish Platinum in both the pre wash and main wash.

Lemontart25 · 09/09/2018 21:49

Never had a problem with M&S, but I mainlu always buy Sainsburys. Never ever buy Matalan I find them such an odd square shape far too short.

Next, but nothing is going to resist white board marker or banana.

KindergartenKop · 09/09/2018 21:54

You don't have a shirt problem, you have a DC problem.

KlutzyDraconequus · 09/09/2018 21:55

My favourite have been from Pep & co. Lasted well, not shrank and feel softer than others.

MuddlingMackem · 09/09/2018 21:58

We've used Asda and they've washed and worn very well. As for stains, meh, as long as they've been washed and they're clean, who cares. Maybe just keep one out for best for assemblies and photos if they won't be wearing a jumper over. :)

Try HG mould remover spray. We bought it to clear some black bits around the bath sealant. Daughter came home from school with blackberry juice and orange pen all over her brand-new-that-day top. Tried Vanish and scrubbing, and knowing that normal bleach turns things pink I thought I'd try the HG stuff before I threw the shirt away. And it worked, stains completely gone. Tested it on an old PE t-shirt and a white polo shirt which had a big ink stain on. All clean. Worth a try!

I find M&S stainaway best for white polos. The Asda ones went greyish, the Sainsburys ones were thin and the hems came down, and Tesco's shrunk too short.

M&S ones always seem to look crumpled. The Sainsbury’s ones are good and v cheap. Also, stick in sunshine to remove stains, I always thought this was an old wives tale, but it really works. My DS managed to get a tomato pasta sauce stain on his brand new shirt within the first few days of school, washed with Vanish and it was still there, but it’s been on the windowsill I the sun all day today and it’s completley gone. Magic.

Alphajuliet, how long did you leave the spray on or did you put it straight in the wash?

fraggle84 · 09/09/2018 22:46

Flash with bleach spray is amazing for white polo shirts.

Spray on and leave for 5 mins, warm rinse then it's gone!

staraniseinbolognese · 09/09/2018 22:55

My DS' school uniform is yellow. All has to be with the logo. New sweatshirt lasted 2 days before the first pen mark. Nothing removes it. Not Vanish. It drives me mad!

alphajuliet123 · 10/09/2018 00:21

Alphajuliet, how long did you leave the spray on or did you put it straight in the wash?

A couple of minutes, then rinsed with warm water and put straight in the wash. I was prepared for it to be ruined so don't shout at me if it doesn't work!! Tested it on other items that were fit for the bin and it cleaned those too (though the ink blot needed another spray).

It's ace in the bathroom too, tile grout and sealant bright white in minutes. No I don't work for them haha.

PickAChew · 10/09/2018 00:24

DS2's M&S polo shirts are fine unless he gets marker pen on them. Sometimes I have to put them in the 60C towel wash, if they're stained with food or sun cream, but they stand up to it no problem.

NotMeNoNo · 10/09/2018 00:29

Best polo shirts for durability are polycotton ones that school suppliers use (Fruit of the Loom, etc). Stains is to do with how you clean them, marker pen is just a hazard of Reception and needs alcohol/solvent to loosen it.
