Pregnancy Unknown Location / Ectopic Pregnancy?! 😭

Want to see if anyone else has been through what I'm currently going through...Pregnancy test was positive 3 weeks ago, based on last period I should now be 7 weeks. Started bleeding over a week ago, went to the hospital had bloods and internal scan, PUL confirmed. Bleeding lasted 4-5 days, was like a light/medium period with cramping. Have been back & forth to the hospital, pregnancy hormone increasing but not doubling. Was told Tuesday I'd had a miscarriage, when blood result returned they called and said think it's ectopic. Had a 3rd scan Thursday with consultant, shewasn't able to confirm for definite it's ectopic. She could see something in my right ovary but not sure what!! I'm so confused, frustrated and upset! Had a private scan today, they confirmed PUL same as hospital, they could see something, they questioned if it's ectopic or corpus luteum. Has anyone else been through this? I really want to stay positive but think it's very unlikely there is a healthy pregnancy in there!

Yes me. My hcg was rising but they couldn’t find anything in my womb so it was classed as unknown location. I am so sorry. I had to go for a blood test every two days to check was happening and after 2 weeks the hcg was still rising but not enough to be a viable pregnancy and definitely not in my womb.

They gave me an injection to stop anymore growth. I read a lot of horrid side effects about that injection but actually it was ok. Then more blood tests to check my hcg was going down.

It’s a long road. I’m so very sorry that you are going through this and all the unknowns. It is, horrendously, one of those things where time will tell. But it is horrible Flowers

Twittwootoo · 09/09/2018 18:21

And I’m sorry but from what I was told, the hcg level has to double to be viable. I am so very very sorry

Charlie3085 · 09/09/2018 18:25

I'm thinking this is the case, it's just frustrating they don't know for sure. They've told me if it is ectopic they want to see if it finishes naturally as I'm well and not in pain or bleeding anymore. My bloods keep rising, I did read somwhere if they rise more than 60% each time that might be ok? I've gone, 118, 190, 276 and Thursday was 470?! I've got to wait till Thursday for another blood test!

Flowers I remember googling the shit out of the hcg bloods and I do remember reading somewhere of miracles about hcg. It was a long time ago now so I don’t remember how my hcg went.

It is utterly torturous waiting for those blood tests. I really do feel for you. Be as kind to yourself as you can Flowers

Thanks Twittwootoo! How long did it all take for your bloods to reduce fully? Hope you don't mind me asking, did you go on to have a normal pregnancy? Sorry if that's too personal!

Yes I had this, initially my hcg did double but it slowed down and I miscarried at what I assumed was 10 weeks. The pregnancy was never found on a scan though.

Conversely I had a pregnancy and bleeding much like yourself. Scan initially showed nothing so had bloods and returned 2 weeks later and hcg was on the low side but still increasing steadily. Doctors said it had to be ectopic so I was called in the next morning for the injection. The consultant on duty wanted to do one more scan as my hcg although not doubling was still pretty high and unbelievably she found a pregnancy in my womb tucked away as far away as it could be. That pregnancy is now the noisy 7 year old sitting next to me. I thank the gods for that consultants diligence every day.

Arrowfanatic · 09/09/2018 18:53

Sorry that should say still pretty high compared to a non viable pregnancy, just to be clear.

Sorry to hear this. I had a PUL 6 years ago. It was a bad time- the uncertainty of not knowing if viable or not also went on for a few weeks with grumbling rising HCGs but nothing on scan. The levels like yours hovered in the few 100s but never in 1000s. They started to fall by themselves so I was told mc about to happen but then they started rising again (but not significantly). I ended up needing 3 methotrexate injections every 4 days as HCG levels didn’t respond initially. I was told 2/3 women need 1 injection, a 1/3 need two injections and I was super unusual in needing 3. They were ok. I was told that PUL are embryos with aneuploidy (abnormal number of chromosomes). They told me the risk of recurrence was 10% with future pregnancies and not to conceive for 6 months after the Methotrexate (depletes folic acid) but I had a completely healthy child the next year, who’s now 4 and just started reception.

I Wish you luck over the next few weeks. Take it easy and be kind to yourself.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. It must be so hard.

I had a very similar situation to you. Bloods and scans not clear at all and was told different things by different staff. Eventually confirmed it was an ectopic, and after waiting to see if it resolved, I had surgery to remove my Fallopian tube.

The surgery and recovery was actually fine, and I was able to get pregnant again within 6 months. Actually it was an egg from the side with the surgery that got lucky - apparently it swam over to the other tube. So it didnt reduce my fertility by 50%.

Good luck with whatever the outcome, look after yourself and stay positive if you can x

I’ve had an ectopic pregnancy before. I had no idea I was pregnant. Zero. I started bleeding. I don’t remember the color or the amount. Apparently I kept complaining to my husband I had cramps. I must have assumed it was my period. The next morning I collapse and am rushed to the hospital via ambulance. Positive pregnancy test. Emergency surgery for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.
In my experience I did bleed prior to rupture. I don’t recall color or how much blood I had. I always had irregular cycles. I must have assumed that’s what this was. I had a lot of cramps. I didn’t know what an ectopic pregnancy was prior to this. With my actual pregnancy I had light brown spotting the week my period was so. A small amount. Definitely less then with the ectopic. I knew this was something way different. Positive test. The doctor confirmed. Checked my hcg levels. Everything was normal.

Iwant2breakfree · 21/09/2018 01:48

I had a pul. Perfectly rising hcg. Scans couldn't find anything til about 8 weeks i was diagnosed with rare scar ectopic baby attached to previous c section scar. I was rushed in for a dnc then told wait and see. Baby started to grow into uterus. Unfortunately the placenta grew through the scar and into my bladder but with a hysterectomy cesarian my son and i are here and healthy. I know the wait and see is agonizing i went through it for months before they said that i didnt have to terminate. I hope you find out whats going on soon

Iwant2breakfree · 21/09/2018 01:49

Forgot to add i also was bleeding heavily passing chicken fillet sized clots and told i had misscarried. I ended up bleeding until 17 weeks along

SupplychainNpton · 21/09/2018 01:52

I'm so sorry.
I had a scar ectopic too.
They got me into hospital, and it was resolved medically.
Horrible experience, but thank goodness it was identified.
ThanksThanks

Help needed.

I’ve had 3 losses in 18 months. I’m pregnant again. According to LMP I’m 6 weeks 2 days today. Went for a scan this morning as felt pregnancy symptoms disappeared yesterday (they’re back now). The sonographer said I’m showing as 5+5 and can see a sac but no baby.
They said it’s either too early or it’s going to be bad news. Had blood taken and back in 48 hours for more to see if my HCG levels have risen.
My question is....how can I be earlier than I think I am? I know my LMP. She spoke about the sperm spending 3-5 days travelling before it met the egg. Also I’ve heard about implanting later. Can anyone shed any light on this confusing matter please?
