AIBU to wonder why people can’t just mind their own business

Why the hell do people get so exercised about other people’s ways of living their lives? The gender they identify as, who they love, how they educate their kids, what they worship, how they dress, everything. From major to minor. If it doesn’t affect them directly, why do people get so exercised? Really, why? I genuinely don’t get it. Prompted by questions from 4 year old Grand Inquisitor DS. I’m at a loss to explain it.

Why do people get so exercised about others getting exercised? 🤔

ana18 · 09/09/2018 01:00

Exactly what you have just said is exactly what your preaching about ?

ana18 · 09/09/2018 01:01

Should I start new thread asking why people post questions asking questions on questions ?

TawnyTeal · 09/09/2018 01:11

Exercised?

Mamabem · 09/09/2018 01:26

Awesome, that should help me explain it. Confused

Any actual ideas about how I go about explaining bigotry and the raining down often impassioned judgement on strangers to a curious child trying to understand the world would be great. As I said in OP, I just don’t know the answer...

Because the Gender they identify may have a massive effect on the people who are born into the sex that they are.

Women have been abused and oppressed since time began and this has been justified because they are Women and therefor second class citizens. So Women fought back and had got to a point were they were breaking through the Gender myth, but now because Men decree it so, Gender is what counts again. As long as it is a man declaring himself in the wrong gender, then all of a sudden a 'Females' say, gets taken notice of.

What other people Worship and how they bring up and educate their children has a massive effect on all of us.

Just use White Supremacists and Isis as an example, or the control of Female reproductive rights and your point will be well made.

I don't understand your struggle tbh.

It's great to grant freedoms, but they shouldn't take away the Freedoms of others.

OP, I always found the words, "Some people believe..." useful when explaining Big Conflicts to young children. "Some people believe X, others believe Y, a third group believe Z. What do you think, ds?"

Of course that depends on you understanding the issues yourself, but that's where google/wiki are helpful.

Mamabem · 09/09/2018 09:52

Thanks v much! It was one of the those child-holds-a-mirror-up-to-the-world moments. I went with: people believe different things and, even if you don't understand them or agree with them, you that you shouldn't defend someone if there is another person being mean to them because of who they are and what they think though.

Had no idea that most teachable moments will come when trying to get their shoes on, when dishing up dinner or when they have a mouthful of toothpaste - I was caught totally off guard, especially when he came back with "why can't people just mind their own business? Why does it bother them so much they need to be a stinker about it??!"

@TawnyTeal - it's an idiom that means upset or agitated about something.

RollerJed · 09/09/2018 12:08

You're a grandparent and didn't know "...teachable moments would when trying to get their shoes on.."", so you don't have any dc?

You could explain that just becayse you believe you're a fire truck doesn't make it so.

Or as a pp already said, woman have been oppressed since the beginning of time, we're allowed to be totally fed up with this BS.

FesteringCarbuncle · 09/09/2018 12:11

Minding you own business is fine so long as your actions don't impact others
Changing the meaning of the word woman impacts half our population

BlueTyger · 09/09/2018 12:25

These days I find liberals are the most bigoted people you could ever have the misfortune to meet - what with the endless virtue signalling and angry preaching.

Plus, of course, if you don't share their views, its the chop for you!
