to come back from French camping trip (2 weeks) and be worried because we are all ill?

My youngest DD who is 5 was bitten badly by mosquitoes as was I. My 9 year old DD not so much. DH is fine. Both DDs got D&V on the way back to England - which made for an interesting/fraught journey in the car home. However that was last weekend and both DDs were well enough to go to school on Wednesday. On Thursday I started getting it - not been sick but everything is going right through me. GP has asked me to provide samples - but I’ve been feeling absolutely dreadful - as in exhausted... if it were a school bug I could rest a bit easier. I’ve said to DH was worried because loads of birds were pooing near our pitch. But we were v careful and luckily had a campsite where we could also get fish and chips and pizza (rather than cook outdoors all the time).

I’m sorry you’re all poorly, but I’ve misunderatood.... what are you worried about?

Babysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoodoo · 08/09/2018 16:42

Are you worried that you’ve caught something from the bird poo, OP?

If your DD has had it and recovered fully, doesn’t that put your mind at rest that it’s just a bug? If not, you need to see your GP with samples for testing; nothing else can tell you what it is/isn’t. Sorry you had such a sickly holiday Sad

SoyDora · 08/09/2018 16:43

What are you worried that it is?

NationalShiteDay · 08/09/2018 16:44

Honestly can't think of anything vaguely interesting you can catch from bird poo. Certainly not bird flu from French flocks if that's what you're worried about.

Sounds like bog standard D&V to me and an entirely appropriate response from your GP

Blobfishlady · 08/09/2018 16:48

Are you thinking botulism? You can get that from seagull poo. But your dc’s have recovered without intervention and you are now having similar symptoms. Do you think you have something different to them?

redsummershoes · 08/09/2018 16:49

after a couple of days I wouldn't worry (yet)

but birds can carry salmonella, e-coli, giardia in their excrements, so if you feel really poorly or it doesn't go away after a couple more days go see gp.

prettypossums · 08/09/2018 16:49

One of my dc caught avian Tuberculosis from bird poo - probably from feeding the ducks in the local park. It was quite nasty but he made a full recovery.

RoyalChocolat · 08/09/2018 16:50

Are you worried about dengue or chikungunya fever because of the mosquitoes?

Laiste · 08/09/2018 16:51

Are you the poster with the massive hilarious camping thread? Who hates camping? And went for 2 weeks to france?

Either way, sorry to hear you're all ill Flowers

kaytee87 · 08/09/2018 16:58

Are you worried about the mosquitos or the bird poo?

easyandy101 · 08/09/2018 17:01

Reasonable to be worried by any group illness imo, even some "standard" bugs can be horrible if not dealt with accordingly and food borne illness can have long term implications

That said the doctors response is entirely appropriate and hopefully the results will set your mind at rest and get you on the correct course of action.

I like camping - my DD still has a slightly upset tummy - not full on D though (otherwise I wouldn’t have sent them back to school). Yes I am worried at bird poo and mosquitoes. I have experience of really nasty food poisoning - salmonella- which I got while backpacking in India age 18. But I could be worrying too much.

Where were you in France? Is it dengue fever that you're worried about? It's really unlikely.

Wolfiefan · 08/09/2018 17:46

Your child has an upset stomach and you sent them to school? YABU.
Not sure what you think you will have caught.

NancyFridayWrites · 10/09/2018 09:27

Just to say I feel so much better today. I didn't send my DD into school unwell, they went back on Tuesday and were find, then on Thursday DD2 says her tummy feels funny again. But she was okay. I cannot believe how much better I feel.. So obviously worried about nothing. I had read up on the West Nile Virus and mozzie bites... that's what really worried me.
