Bikini waxing and veins in pregnancy?

PAlm5 · 07/09/2018 22:21

Sorry if this is TMI. I'm 31 weeks pregnant. I like to be bare down there. Personal preference. No I don't think it makes me look like a child.

I want it all off but am too big now to see what I'm doing. Shaving consists now of 30 mins of not being able to breathe and having to take breaks as I just can't reach. It would be hilarious to watch on film!

Thing is, obviously in pregnancy you have a bit more discharge than usual, and I also have some fairly unsightly veins. WIBU to go to get a bikini wax/everything off? Or would this be unpleasant for the waxer?

The waxer probably wont care at all but you might find you get broken/red veins because the extra blood flow makes them more prone to damage during the waxing

PAlm5 · 07/09/2018 22:26

Oh really ten? Never even thought of that. I'm so self conscious of my body as a whole but would really love a wax. I'm torn. Not sure I can put myself through the anxiety or embarrassment!

Can’t you get your OH to shave you?

nutellanom · 08/09/2018 08:44

Have a shower before you go and take some wipes for a quick freshen up whilst you're getting ready in the room!

Confusedbeetle · 08/09/2018 08:48

Dont do it. You can get infection from ingrowing hairs. Pubic hair has a protective function and should be left alone. Its not heathy to remove it

PAlm5 · 08/09/2018 09:23

@PickledChutney I could but would rather not to be honest!

@Confusedbeetle I think it'll be fine. I've always removed it, never had an ingrown hair or an infection Smile

I bruised more when I got my Hollywood when 39 weeks :(

ChipsnCurrySaucemmm · 08/09/2018 11:06

Maybe ask them to start off with an old school tidy up around the edge and see how your skin copes?

PAlm5 · 08/09/2018 11:08

@ChipsnCurrySaucemmm that's a very good idea! Thank you.

I get a bikini wax every 4-6 weeks and always up until last few weeks of pregnancy too
It’s always been fine

PAlm5 · 08/09/2018 11:11

@Azra12 did you find it hurt more? I only get them very occasionally and haven't for months. I get scared every time and can't even take ibuprofen this time round!

If you and the therapist are happy to go ahead then do it; I know some won't after a certain point, but I got a wax at 36 weeks and it was fine. Ot wasn't any more sensitive for me than usual but I think it's because I knew however painful a wax was, the impending birth was going to be a whole lot worse...!

scuttlemama · 08/09/2018 11:25

I would definitely double check with your therapist but I’m sure it will be ok. I had an extended bikini line wax so I was good to go for a c-section and I had this at late 38 weeks ready for baby at 39.

nutellanom · 08/09/2018 12:34

I had a Brazilian when about 37 weeks, the therapist will be fine with it I'm sure.

DrZoidbergsTentacles · 08/09/2018 12:36

Have to say, due to extra blood flow down there, when i waxed while pregnant, i actually bled from the hair pores! But i do have very wiry hair. Also, it hurt SO much more than a wax ordinarily would. Just be aware. Any good waxer worth her salt, won't blink an eye at veins or anything else.

PAlm5 · 08/09/2018 14:29

Omg that hurt so bad 😭

tealandteal · 08/09/2018 14:35

I asked my midwife and she said it was OK from their point of view but I didn't go for it in the end as my son was more sensitive.

PAlm5 · 08/09/2018 15:11

My underwear has blood on it! Oh man. I knew it would be bad but not that bad!

OP posts:
Azra12 · 08/09/2018 15:18

I’ve never found it so bad, but I suppose I have a high pain threshold.. I never take any painkillers when I go for waxing
It hurts but just for them few moments
Hope you’re okay & feeling better x
