...to vent about how Welcome Cottages have messed up my booking

Two or three months ago I booked a cottage through them so I could take Battendog to visit a good friend who I haven't seen in over a year. Booking a cottage meant I could give her a little treat as she hasn't had the best of health and it also meant we didn't have to handle 4 dogs in one house (hers would stay at home with family).

I received a reminder of the booking at the start of the week as were were due to arrive today, with instructions to call the owner to arrange key pick up. I did so and she said she'd send them through.

I hadn't received anything by yesterday afternoon so called her again - at which point she went silent then said Welcome Cottages were meant to have called me with details and she would chase them. About 10 mins later I got a text from her saying "I'm sorry but they messed up the booking and were meant to have told you weeks ago".

I called WC and they said the owner had cancelled last minute. They couldn't find me anything else at such short notice but 'not to worry they would refund my money'. When I relayed this back to the owner she said she had cancelled 3 weeks ago (she had left WC all together at that point because she found them to be so rubbish) and was able to provide email evidence that this was the case.

We are due to go away today and I am running around desperately trying to find somewhere else suitable instead.

I am so angry at Welcome Cottages for not bothering to tell me the booking was cancelled as well as fobbing me off with a lie about it being the owner's fault...

Grrr!

Also, if anyone can recommend great agencies for last minute bookings for rurl cottages in Sussex I would be most grateful!

Why did the owner say agreed send them through when you first contacted her?

Luckily there should be plenty of availability now the kids are at school.

At first she thought I was booking through their new agency. Am guessing she went away, realised who I was and called WC then. She says she didn't know what to tell me as they were meant to be dealing with it so didn't want to say the wrong thing. Totally agree that if she'd given me even a hint something was up it would have been MUCH easier to sort something on Tuesday than now.

Thanks for the recommends. Am in touch with Amberley (who are being fantastic!) and there looks to be something on airbnb that might do, will look up the others.

We have used both of these within last 12 months

Also used Mulberry

All been fine
