To make rashers in the microwave at work?

Luxembourgmama · 06/09/2018 12:59

I'm thinking i might streamline my morning by eating breakfast at work. I do this sometimes and it means i'm not hungry by 11am. So far i've only ever had yoghurt or cottage cheese. I was thinking of maybe doing scrambled eggs in winter. But would I be unreasonable to do rashers in the microwave. i have one of these www.amazon.co.uk/Sistema-Microwave-Easy-Bacon-28-7/product-reviews/B076DFYL44/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_paging_btm_2?pageNumber=2&reviewerType=all_reviews&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8 so i wouldn't make a mess. I get in very early...

Oh dear Slarti, somebody didn't learn to read in school did they 😂😂😂

AjasLipstick · 06/09/2018 22:50

You moaners should go to my place of work. It's full of vegans and they all heat veggie curry and chilli in the microwave. I always think it's odd when people say some things are "smelly". Bacon smells beautiful.

Ohyesiam · 06/09/2018 22:58

Oh mn at its dramatic best.
I’d be fine with it, and I’m
vegetarian.
I also unDerstand rashers and I’m not Irish

KnotsInMay · 06/09/2018 23:38

OP, pleeeeease tell us what you did in the microwave before that got you told off!

VinoISVeritas · 06/09/2018 23:43

Jesus!!
What’s WRONG with you people?!
Take the rough with the smooth!
OP: cook yer bacon.
And fucking enjoy it.
And please bring me some :)

Eliza9917 · 06/09/2018 23:43

Thanks to this thread I just dug out a microwave bacon tray that I've never used before and just made a bacon roll.

It was beautiful and didn't stink.

RavenLG · 06/09/2018 23:51

Those worrying about cross contamination... do none of you dirty buggars clean the microwave after using it, or use containers?

Bacon will contaminate everything? So your chicken and rice wont? I hate the smell of toast so people shouldn’t be allowed to have beans on toast for lunch? How do some of you cope in day to life Jesus Christ.

RavenWings · 06/09/2018 23:59

I'm also in the camp that finds eating breakfast at work bizarre, ffs, just get up a bit earlier & relax & enjoy a good breakfast. If you have DCs you are setting the a very bad example

This is hilarious - sad face and all! Some people have breakfast in work as they like to commute early, beat the traffic and then eat at their leisure instead of spending longer travelling/gulping down breakfast. I don't know what it says about you if you think that's a bad example.

RavenWings · 07/09/2018 00:01

I'm just confused at calling them "Rashers" rather than just saying "bacon"

And yet somehow you understood what op was talking about. Can't have been that confused, can ya?

Personally I hate the word bacon for rashers. They're rashers! I picture bacon as the American stuff.

Bimgy85 · 07/09/2018 00:04

@RavenWings yes I enjoy breakfast is to be enjoyed leisurely either at home or in work before a shift starts, to say you shouldn't be eating breakfast in work is stupid, you could be 45 mins early and have plenty of time Hmm

AjasLipstick · 07/09/2018 01:10

Raven what irritated me was the sentence "AIBU to MAKE rashers in the microwave"

She's not "making" them. She's cooking them. Also, bacon is bacon...a rasher is one slice of bacon.

RachelTeeth · 07/09/2018 01:24

People eating fish is a common poi t here and in the other office worker food thread, is it that common to feel the need to eat fish? Fuckin rank!

Miscella · 07/09/2018 04:49

Ajas - as many pp have pointed out, what you call bacon irish people call rashers. And op is referring to the plural as in ‘rashers’ rather than ‘a rasher’.

In ireland ‘bacon’ is a bigger piece of meat that is usually boiled. And yes, we do know that rashers are sliced bacon.

When I lived in the U.K. I found it really strange to hear people refer to ‘rashers of bacon’, I used to think what else would a rasher be?!

SD1978 · 07/09/2018 05:06

I don't see an issue. There are regularly eggs, mushroom, spinach, curry's & rice dishes heated up in ours- bacon is usually done on the sandwich press- much sizzlier. Only objection seems to be tuna- bring that at your peril. I'd be confirming noone was halal, it's lucky the outraged pp's aren't in my workplace, for their own sake!

Frasa · 07/09/2018 07:09

A colleague in our office does this. If I get to work and they are cooking them in the microwave I just leave the canteen and skip breakfast. The smell seems to cling to everything. If I stay I end up back at my desk with my hair and clothes smelling of them and I can’t stand it.

GoldenMcOldie · 07/09/2018 07:13

Save your rashers for the weekend.

Not great for any Jewish/Muslim/vegetarian/non bacon loving colleagues.

Slarti · 07/09/2018 07:47

Golden it is unreasonable to expect an entire office to become kosher/halal.

RavenWings · 07/09/2018 07:52

Also, bacon is bacon...a rasher is one slice of bacon.

No, to me rashers are a plural. Bacon comes in a lump.

And bimgy maybe it's just me but I'm not quite following your post.

serbska · 07/09/2018 07:55

I’m actually quite a fan of bacon in the microwave if I’m just doing for me. Has to be thick cut and between quite a bit of kitchen roll - but comes out really crispy. It dies stink my house out though.

Aaaahfuck · 07/09/2018 07:56

I'm a vegetarian my partner eats meat at home but tbh this would make me gag!

Bimgy85 · 07/09/2018 08:23

No. Rashers are rashers. (Bacon) in any amount.

Bimgy85 · 07/09/2018 08:25

Doesn't make a difference if it's a slice of bacon bacon is rashers to us.

SlartiAardvark · 07/09/2018 08:58

It's kitchen, for cooking things....

I'd rather have a sniff of someone's bacon cooking than have to stare at the po faced person I have to now while he chokes down his nasty (and smelly) porridge.........

SlartiAardvark · 07/09/2018 08:59

Not great for any Jewish/Muslim/vegetarian/non bacon loving colleagues.

Christ, if we went through life like that it'd be a miserable fecking world!!

Oh my, people who are kind & thoughtful of others make for a miserable worldConfused I'm so glad I live in my world not yours. I would hate to be so obnoxious & uncaring of the world around me, so sad Sad
