Total abuse of AIBU, sorry about that but I suddenly have to get to cheltenham, i don;t know it well at all, i have a van, so can't park in arcades as too tall.

Please can anyone who knows Cheltenham centre recommend somewhere to park that will have spaces around lunchtime that i will fit and still walkable to cavendish house?!

Pretty please!!

North place car park/Portland street car park? If you're coming in from the Racecourse side follow the A435 all the way in until you have to turn left or right at the lights, turn right, then first left, then the North Place entrance is on the right, Portland street on the left. NP doesn't have marked bays, so might be easier for a big vehicle. You're about 3 mins from Cav house.

I'll second North Place or Portland Street and warn you that there are 2 of them and one has a height restriction barrier on it.

You'll probably be OK in Portland Street but if not look over the road and you will see North Place and I don't think that has a restriction bar. Smile

If they both do you can park free for up to four hours around Malden Road, which is only a couple of minutes longer to walk... there are usually quite a few spaces.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/09/2018 10:14

Should say, it's about half a mile from Malden Road to Cav House.

I'm coming in from Lansdown (so from the south as travelling from bristol)

Thanks for the recommendation, am going to plug it into google maps now.

There's nowheret that side of town that is easy or cheap, I am afraid.

WARNING WARNING WARNING
Your sat nav will take you through the centre of town - where you will find a BIG "Don't follow Sat Nav" sign. They have closed one of the roads.
You need to head from Lansdown, down the Promenade in the right had lane, turning right at the traffic lights.

Follow the road to the left and turn right into Rodney Road. Follow that road round, minding the pedestrians as you go, yu wil turn left and then right again.

At the T junction you can only turn right. Then turn left into Gloucester Place. Turn left at the end and get into the right hand lane.

Over 1 set of traffic lights and right at the next - Portland Street!

I aim to please. That's a trip I make daily, so I didn't even have to use google for the road names Smile

You never know, we may be driving the same roads at the same time very soon!

NannyOldElf · 06/09/2018 10:46

well if you see a van with a harassed looking brunette at the wheel - thats me!! i hate city driving, even more so in a city i dont know with only two hours warning!

That's OK as Cheltenham is a TOWN, so you can relax a bit Grin

It's not too bad, your route is lots of one way streets ad traffic lights. Just go slow, no-one will notice as all routes are slow through town.

When you leave you won't have to do as much of the wriggly bit - you'll be going round the supposed ring road (don't laugh, it's just some more bendy roads with pot holes). Just follow signs that say Gloucester and you'll be fine!

NannyOldElf · 06/09/2018 11:05

haha...yes of course it it!! muppet!! living between bristol and gloucester you'd think i'd know that!!

en.parkopedia.com/ has all height restrictions on car parks listed (fellow van driver here)
