My gut tells me that it's not Kelly, lion.

Gumpendorf · 09/09/2018 19:28

Kelly doesn't sit right with me either. My first thought was Dan Coates but the timing doesn't sit right. He would warn if there was a real risk and wouldn't worry about getting out ahead of any Woodward fallout.

My instinct says Kellyanne Conway. She was allegedly critical of him during the campaign and is in the WH as a career move. She's now trying to protect her 'reputation'.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/09/2018 19:37

This is tin foil hat territory, but DH and I have been musing as to whether or not this 'anonymous' (or is that ominous mouse?) piece is actually a 'plant' by the Scrotus team to rile up the right and get out the GOP vote. It doesn't really say anything that Scrotus hasn't heard before in the MSM and since he's incapable of believing any ill of himself anyway it wouldn't bother him to see it in the 'failing' NYT. Plus it would tickle him no end to know he'd put one over on the NYT and the Dems. Just a thought.

Gumpendorf · 09/09/2018 19:43

Omarosa: #TFA hashtag was used among White House staffers when discussing the 25th Amendment on.msnbc.com/2Qi0VLG

cozietoesie · 09/09/2018 19:43

I would guess that the NYT already had that thought, Across. (Before they source-checked.) Wink

Gumpendorf · 09/09/2018 19:53

I don't think it's tinhat Across. I wondered the same, especially when Trump appeared at the Sheriffs thing. He seemed invigorated.
I also wondered if it was designed to expose the press in the same way as the Bush war service memo destroyed the credibility of Dan Rather and co.

It's v dependent on the NYT doing their due diligence and not overplaying the significance of the person who authored it. They admit they were surprised by the response to it. I hope the rest of their judgement was sound.

When someone shows you what they are, believe them:
Will Saletan
@saletan
Awesome moment at end of Pence interview: @margbrennan tells the viewer that Pence asked to clarify a remark, so @FaceTheNation turned the cameras back on. Then you watch as Pence, having asked for the question, pretends to be surprised by it. Just so you know how fake he is.

Pence tells CBS that the anonymous op-ed's talk of thwarting the president is "an assault on democracy." Seconds later, Pence dismisses Trump's tweet against prosecuting GOP lawmakers as a non-binding expression of "what he feels."

ohmymimi · 09/09/2018 20:34

This is the best guess at the ominous mouse so far, imho, and not the first time Huntsman has been mentioned, nor that the op-ed was a solo effort. However, the effort to find the identity of mousey is secondary to the the work required to deal with the dangerous disaster that this presidency, WH and the repugly led Congress is.

Bill Kristol
@BillKristol
Here’s my best guess:
Anonymous is Huntsman (h/t @saletan). But he wasn’t acting entirely alone. He got a green (or at least a yellow) light from John Kelly, who also encouraged Rob Porter to cooperate with Woodward to get the truth out about the situation in the White House.

ohmymimi · 09/09/2018 20:37

nor that the op-ed was a solo effort nor that the op-ed was NOT a solo effort

@thehill
Papadopoulos: My testimony may have helped show collusion between Trump campaign and Russia link: hill.cm/qwhKvVY hill.cm/qwhKvVY
2/ Based on the research I did for (and am publishing in) PROOF OF COLLUSION, there are elements of Papadopoulos' campaign activity he still hasn't revealed publicly, with the likely reason being federal law enforcement has asked him to continue to keep certain information close.
3/ There's been no follow-up from media regarding his one-on-one meeting with Trump (3/21/16); their phone call (pre-3/21); the fact he'd already told Trump of the backchannel pre-3/31; who sent him to Greece; who sent Seth Cropsey (tied to McFarlane/McFarland) to go with him...
4/ ...why he made his second trip to Greece in late May 2016 when Putin was going to be there, and when it appears Oleg Deripaska may have been there; what his ties to Flynn were/are (Ratio Oil Exploration; Landau; Alptekin; that "mysterious Israeli" in Mykonos); and on and on...
5/ ...why the government asked him to stay in touch with his old colleagues after his arrest in July 2017 (wire, intercept, further seizure of texts and emails, who knows), why his arrest appeared to lead to Flynn's cooperation deal, anything on his work with the Egyptians...
6/ ...in short, Papadopoulos got a sweetheart deal because of his cooperation (what he calls his "testimony," which he says could help prove collusion). The prison sentence was going to be 0 or 30 days or somewhere in-between because the government thought he was pissy as a CI.
7/ Anyone who says Papadopoulos got 14 days because he wasn't central to the Trump-Russia case is WRONG. Anyone who says that making false statements is all Papadopoulos ever did wrong is WRONG. He helped the government—but he was pissy about it—so he got 14 days instead of none.
8/ As for why the media has covered in detail VIRTUALLY NOTHING about what Papadopoulos did after his hire to the Trump campaign, you'd have to ask them. I did what I could to remedy that issue by giving George Papadopoulos' FULL story in PROOF OF COLLUSION, and parts of it here.

DOJ lays charges against a North Korean hacker, “marking a significant benchmark in U.S. efforts to crack down on foreign cyberattacks”. The US government has now laid charges against four nations for hostile cyberattacks: China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

But according to 45’s tweets just earlier, he and KJU are great friends!
