to throw the printer out of the window? (any techies to help please?)

So we got new printer ink because it was running on fumes. Genuine ink made by the manufacturer.

The printouts are as pale as me after a British winter. Why? I've googled and it just says replace the ink.

Going to throw this beast out of the window tonight and I need to print something urgently for tomorrow.

Anybody able to help please?

In the printer software there should be an option to clean the print heads. That the first thing to try. Forgive me, but just a thought, you didn't accidentally leave the tape on the contacts on the cartridge?

It's a good thought. No, we checked that :-)

There doesn't seem to be any printer software installed on the laptop for some reason. I've been to the Epson website and it doesn't seem to have any to download - when we got the printer there was no CD and we just plugged it in and off it went.

have you got a screen on the printer itself?

Is it printing in Draft mode?

therealimposter · 04/09/2018 21:35

No, no screen on the printer. I don't think it's in draft mode because I found the printer settings online where you choose the paper and black and white or colour printing and there isn't a draft option in there - I expected to see a best/draft or whatever.

It's OK in colour so I think it's a problem with the black cartridge so I swapped it but it's the same.

thanks.

do you know the model?

Did you thoroughly shake the cartridge before inserting it. It seems that that's the order of the day with Epson cartridges. You also might need to clean the print heads. Do a nozzle check to see.
By the way, I have used Epson printers for decades and always buy the cheap compatible ink and it works perfectly well and you save sooooo much money.

Fixed. After trying everything on the thread and more besides the printer went on it's holidays. Pride in place now is a new printer which works.
No idea what was wrong but nothing would get it to work.
thanks.
