To ask what you eat if you're a slim vegan?

Been vegan for about 18 months, vegetarian for 8 years. Not overweight but looking a little soft around the edges now I'm past my twenties.

If you're a fairly trim vegan (or even a relatively low-dairy vegetarian) what does a normal days food look like to you?

Vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, plant milk, coffee, soya yoghurt, fruit, oats, chia seeds, dark chocolate, biscuits, sandwiches, chips...

I eat a fuckload! I’m slim but have a big appetite.
Massive bowl of porridge, with a banana and cherries and chia seeds for breakfast, lunch is usually a whole sweet potato with a bag of kale sautéed with a tahini sauce or hummus or an avocado tofu sandwich with black beans. Dinner varies but usually loads of veg with rice or quinoa with something proteiny, or curry or wraps. Fruit or soy yogurt for pud. I don’t cook with any oil and I find that keeps my weight down while still eating quite a bit. I don’t really have much refined sugar, dates and dried fruit are more my thing, but in moderation. I eat nuts but in very small quantities or as part of a dressing (peanut butter or tahini)

Today was porridge and almond milk, lunch was sweet potato wrap with homous, falafel and some mango, dinner was a three bean chilli and couscous with extra omega seeds on top. Probably close to 1500/1600 calories. Lots of coffee.

I put on quite a lot of weight when I first turned vegan - asked for advice on a forum and they pointed out that eating a handful of falafel and half a pot of hummus every day wasn’t very healthy Blush

I now eat a lot of tofu, salads, couscous and vegetables for lunch which has cut down on my calorie intake and made me go back to my usual weight! I find replacing super carby stuff like pasta with vegetables helps a lot!

I think the key is eating lots of veg and whole plant foods. Don’t be afraid of starch. Have you heard of Dr Greger? Nutritionfacts.org. Lots of free, evidence based research into plant based diets and health.

I. E.
Breakfast
Porridge with oats, almond milk, chia seeds, banana and peanut or almond butter
Coffee
Apple

Lunch:
Salad with leaves and grains (quinoa or rice or cous cous etc) and hummus and spices and maybe quorn/tofu/edamame or something and a couple of pita breads
Or a sandwich (marmite and hummus salad is a controversial favourite) and soup and a piece of fruit

Mid afternoon probably something like a Trek bar or a few biscuits and some carrot sticks

Dinner varies a lot. Tonight is tofu and veg thai curry and rice. Probably will have a few Oreos or some dairy free Ben and Jerry's while watching Bakeoff.
