I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

Wow Worldweary that's bizarre!

I live in a really old house, and one of the former occupants lived here all her life, she was born here and died here (electrocuted in my spare room Shock). I asked the previous owner if she'd ever seen anything spooky, she said not in the house, but said that she and other people had sent the lady in the garden (she loved her garden).

Our kitchen goes out on to an extension but it still has the original back door, complete with knocker in the middle of the old and new parts of the house. A couple of weeks after we moved in, I was in the kitchen with my youngest son. There was no one else in the house and the kitchen/old back door was closed. Then there was a tap of the knocker on that door. A jaunty, friendly knock, but even so, it freaked me right out. I didn't want to scare my youngest so just said briskly, no X, you are welcome here but please don't scare the children. Touch wood we've had no more since.

I also woke up a couple of times the first week we moved in, by the feeling that a woman was standing next to me when i was in bed. I didn't feel threatened, I just think she wanted to check out who I was. Our bedroom was her studio, as she was an artist.

Why did I come on this thread again when I just finished watching The Haunting of Hill House last night?

pudding21 · 25/10/2018 09:53

These are fab.

I have had a few spooky encounters in hospitals and nursing homes, but this one was the most creepy.

Working in a new build nursing home. The dining room overlooked some of the bedrooms, one resident was eating her dinner, called me over and asked why there were children playing in her room. I went to investigate, no children anywhere, no guests down there at all. She said this on several occasions, and she was a lucid resident.

I used to do nights in the same nursing home, we would sit in a communal area and I used to often get sensations people were standing behind me, there never was, but it was a strong feeling of someone there. Lots of people who worked there had similar experiences.

Years later I found out the nursing home had been built on a paupers burial ground. Many children were buried there. Freaky.

Totally getting creeped out reading these, love it though!

This will probably out me because I've told this story to some of my friends but hey ho! A few years ago I was at a yoga class in an old building, which was near a church and a castle and a load of other old buildings. I'd been going there for a long time, knew everyone, it was lovely. One evening though in the middle of tying ourselves I yoga knots, my concentration was broken by hearing a man outside he room laugh really loud a couple of times, like someone had just told him a joke. I was a bit annoyed because there were signs up about being quiet, and as it was evening there was nothing else going on in the building at that time, but I thought oh never mind. At the end of the class I mentioned it to a couple of the ladies who'd been sat near me, sort of "did you hear that rude man laughing?", one went white as a sheet and wouldn't talk about it, and he other one said oh you've heard him too... apparently there used to be a school in the building and one of the teachers is still seen and heard regularly.

I'm not really a believer in ghosts and things (I'm not sure what I believe, very open minded) but I was totally freaked out by that, I couldn't stop shaking.

I used to live in a flat in Camden where the weirdest things would happen.

I was in flat alone one night getting ready to go out. I was playing music on a little CD player in the next room. The music suddenly went off. I went into the room to find the CD player turned round the opposite way to how I had left it. I had a mild freak out and then turned it round/put music back on. The minute I left the room the music turned off again!

My flat mate had a little dog that used to sleep in the living room at night. He had a crate, but was always given free run of the room. I woke up first one morning and went down to find the dog locked in his crate with the blanket covered over it. I thought it a bit odd and let him out. When flat mate woke up I told her I’d let her dog out of his crate that morning. She then informed me that she hadn’t locked her dog in his crate the night before!

There was a window outside my bedroom with a candlestick on it. One night Inwalked past it to go to living room and randomly thought how weird it would be if the candle just suddenly fell down (I was alone in the flat again) I then went to sit in living room and a minute later heard a thunk sound from next to my bedroom. I went out and the candle was lying on the floor broken in two!

In my late 20s I lived in a remote village in Somerset. Work was a manual job starting at 6 am but by 4pm I would cycle the four miles from work to home. It was midsummer, a particularly hot year, and one evening I stopped on the crest of the hill to sit on the bench that overlooked the village and the valley below. I enjoyed the feel of the sun on my face and just drew in some long deep breaths. Within 10-20 seconds I felt nauseous, could not sit well, wanted to stand but felt dizzy and disconnected from what little was going on around me. I panicked for I thought I must be having some kind of heart attack or emobolism. My whole body felt under massive pressure but the middle of my vision was becoming clear and in front of me was a different location, a different country in a different time. It was like I was remotely viewing through another person’s eyes, but what I could see was very, very clear and happening right in front of me. The weirdest thing was at the same time I knew I was still physically on the bench in Somerset, I could feel it.

I saw canals and lots of water courses, the banks were dry, dusty and cracked. Ugly concrete walls and bridges shaped the landscape. The water was green, still and rubbish floated in it. I was standing at the boot of a car, two males were in the car and we were talking quietly between us as we watched another car, a dirty battered silver saloon turn down the road at the far end and move slowly towards us. I remember intense heat and no breeze. As the car got close it was on the left hand side of us, slowing down and I could see two men plus the driver. I was viewing their approach peering round the side of the boot lid and through the window panes. They edged past but could not see me. All the time I knew I was on a bench in Somerset and not at the place of the image I was seeing. As they got level to the left of me they had practically stopped. I was already turned towards them and I raised a rifle and shot the driver through the side of his face then swivelled the rifle to the back seat passenger and shot him. The front seat passenger froze in surprise and just looked into my eyes. Before he could move I shot him too, in the face. Those few seconds felt like ages. My mind felt disconnected from my body by a long way. I put my rifle down in the boot and looked at a deer carcass there. As I moved to open the rear car door to step in, the image faded from the outside in, and my vision and balance slowly started to return, I remember gripping the wooden bench so tightly throughout and that stopped me from falling over completely.

The whole thing lasted about 4-5 minutes and afterwards I was terrified it would happen again without warning. It was no dream because I did not fall asleep. It was very tangible and I get shivers thinking about it.

In my old house as a child I used to always see a little girl with blonde hair, dungarees carrying a twig. Id ask to play with her and she would disappear. My mum would comfort me when I said the girl didnt let me play. One night I woke up and she was there, hitting me with the twig laughing but i couldnt feel it. I screamed and screamed till she ran away and my mum came upstairs.

At my grandmothers she has a huge field and hills outside her house. I saw a man having some sort of seizure underneath the trees, it terrified me. He was flailing about, screaming and jolting. I've never seen anything like it and I froze for a few minutes then ran inside to get help. Neighbours came too and within about 2 minutes he had disappeared. He can't have ran off or gone because we would see him on the field. No explanation to this day and it still haunts me from being 4 years old

My employers have moved into a beautifully restored old building shared by several other organisations. I get really good, positive vibes from the main building and my office. However, I don't get a good feeling from the ladies toilet nearest to my office. The first time I went in a voice in my head sounds crazy told me to get out asap. So I did and walked half way round the otherside of the building to use the toilet which is a faff. I don't get this feeling anywhere else in the building just in those toilets. I pass those toilets to use the shared kitchen & every time I get that same warning not to use those toilets. So I don't, I've taken to listening to that voice as it's telling me for my own protection.

I'm staying in a holiday apartment in Benidorm until Thursday. So far we have had

General feeling of unease

Whilst trying to take a Snapchat pic the facial recognition kept detecting a face behind me.

Woke in the night to a face staring at me from the side of the bed ( not DH)

Looked up from my book last night to see a woman stood in front of DH. Looked again and she had gone.

I am FREAKED THE FUCK OUT.

KrispyKremes · 04/11/2018 18:12

Holy shit @cricketmum84

Please start your own thread about it all so we can follow!!!!

cricketmum84 · 04/11/2018 18:17

Oh god I know. The main bedroom is where I feel the most freaked at the moment. Had to go shower in there after a day at the beach as the kids had used all the hot water in the main bathroom. I almost made one of them come sit with me.

Quickest shower ever. I then grabbed clothes and got dressed in the kitchen lol!!

ALongHardWinter · 04/11/2018 18:54

IAmNotLikeThem. That is truly weird. It gave me the shivers reading that.

cricketmum84 · 04/11/2018 19:14

@KrispyKremes thread started just for you :) it wouldn't let me tag you in it though! X

Many years ago my father was doing a charity gypsy caravan drive with a friend. Every night he would walk to the nearest phone box with his dog and ring my mum. One particular night he walked back to the caravan a different way. The dog was trotting behind dad when it suddenly stopped. Dad turned round and the dog was growling and had his heckles up. Dad was of course alarmed and checked everywhere and looked in both ditches and found nothing or no-one. He had to pick the dog up and carry him still growling all the way back to the caravan. He was still growling when Dad went to sleep.
The next morning Dad and his friend were up at 5am and set off with the caravans. Dad had two horses one in the shafts and one on the side. They set off the way Dad had walked home and in exactly the same place as the dog had stopped the horses started neighing and jumping around. Dad and his friend really struggled to get the horses past.
Dad said afterwards that he didn't know what had happened but it scared the hell out of them both

This is one a retired nurse told me we'll call her Joyce. In the 60's she was working nights on a children's ward in an old Victorian era hospital in the North West. There were three nurses on duty, Joyce and 2 colleagues. There was a little boy we'll call him David, who was very sick and he cried a lot at night. They would have to go and settle him several times each night.
One night he started crying out asking for a drink but there was an emergency with another patient and she called to him "David, I will come in a minute sweetheart there's a baby very poorly and needs the doctor."
She said he kept crying out every few minutes and they were dealing with the baby and then David stopped.
They kind of forgot about him with all the kerfuffle then when she went to check on him he was fast asleep there was a jug of water on the locker beside him and a glass half full of water.
She asked her colleagues who had taken David his drink, no one had. Thought it was strange but hadn't seen anyone
In the morning she asked him who had brought him his drink.
He said "it was the lady in the long grey dress. She came and sat with me and held my hand. She didn't have any feet."
According to Joyce most nurses have seen weird stuff.

I was / am reading this thread in the bathroom (I know, eeeooow, but don't we all?).

The extractor fan just switched itself on! You have to pull the cord and the cord is inside the bathroom (I am alone)...

It gave me a jump and needless to say, I am in the right place!

medusawashere · 07/11/2018 16:48

I love these threads so much..moooooore!

I'm new here and I've been reading all of these ghost stories and loving them. I've had so many experiences I wouldn't know where to start.

But my 3 favourites on here are-

  1. The story about the fireman who are their way home from a job and spot a woman screaming, crying and waving infront of them infront of a house ablaze. She begs them to get to her children upstairs in the bedroom and they go up and rescue them, bring them out. They go back up and check the rooms, and find the Mother deceased in the next room curled up.

  2. The medium on here who was worried that her stories were ridiculed and people wouldn't believe her. She regularly sees a woman from the 80's spirit walking the aisles of her local ASDA smelling of petrol/gas fumes who is angry that everyone ignores her and little girls ask about "the woman with the smelly clothes". To that user - don't be worried! I loved your story.

  3. The woman's boyfriend who is travelling up the motorway to visit her at uni and spots a girl in the back in a pinafore and pigtails with the seatbelt on. Then, the car doesn't work properly and they hear banging noises in the back passenger door. They take the car to a mechanic who says that the car was involved in an accident once (although if a little girl passed away, surely the car would have been impacted too bad to be remade and bought off of someone else - unless they used the metal from that old car to build a new one? Hmm).

Our family were absolutely devastated when our elderly, much loved German Shepherd Dog had to be PTS. We now take great comfort in the fact that occasionally we hear his claws rattling on the wooden flooring in the hallway where he had his bed, as if he's walking around.

It freaked us out at first but now we look at each other and say 'Aww our Max is here to see us!'
