He literally just finished and I hate it.
We just moved into a gorgeous unfurnished property for the next year. We had minimal furniture and done the space so I was looking forward to making it our own.
DH was insistent that we get a big desk so he could work in peace at home. I found a small charity shop desk that was lovely, cost £15 and we wouldn't have to get too attached to, but he vetoed it (then changed it his mind but it had already gone). His choice was a huge white desk/shelving unit off Amazon, I think £150. I was worried it would look a bit cheap - he's bought white cabinets off Amazon before and they looked really ugly from the start. The desk is not even that useful - what we need right now are book shelves, lots of them because we have books littered all over the place with no home and this desk just takes up valuable space without solving our storage problem. But during the stress of the move I let him talk me into buying the desk first.
Now it's assembled and it looks as cheap as I feared, especially amongst our other lovely bits of oak furniture.
What's worse is that we have a gorgeous oak dining table in the living room that DH has just started saying wasn't safe because he thinks toddler DS can reach far up onto it, and thinks he will tip it over. This would have served perfectly as a desk by itself but DH refused to consider the idea previously.
I feel really annoyed at the idea that we've spent money on crap Amazon furniture while talking about getting rid of really expensive oak. It makes no sense that he's shopping for crap when we can actually afford nice stuff.
But I feel bad now for not being more insistent earlier and that he's just spent 2h assembling it and quite likes it.
Should I just shut up about it now that's it's done? I'm not sure we can return it now that it's assembled. As we're actually only here for a year, maybe we can get rid of it later.
