It just seems unnecessary when they are just upsetting theirselves and spoiling it for other people.
I’m talking
“What’s your favourite treat food from the shops”
“Nothing. I live in a wooden crab infested shack and only eat mouldy dog food and sprouts”
Or
“What funny/silly nonsense did your family do with you as a child”
“Well they string me up and beat me with birches, I don’t know if that counts”
I understand hard lives, and it’s not been a picnic personally but I (and I assume others) read cheerful threads as nice escapism and happy memories and these posters are upsetting their selves and others

OP posts:

This thread is hilarious Grin.

GlitterGlassEye · 02/09/2018 21:44

The scented sanpro comment was fucking crazy. I don’t know what it smells like so how somebody could be offended by a colleague wearing one is beyond me.

arranfan · 02/09/2018 21:46

I tried to convince dd (11) to let me pull her loose tooth with some string on a door handle. Isn’t that a thing anymore?

Only if you're one of the profligates who spends more than £425 per month to keep a family of 13 (8 adults, 5 children) and isn't prepared to do what it takes to keep dental costs to a minimum.

Seemingly, a swift uppercut to the jaw to cut the pain/consciousness during the door-extraction has also fallen out of favour. Unaccountable.

StripySocksAndDocs · 02/09/2018 21:49

Not sure how anyone who is able to detect a sanitary towel by scent copes with other smells.

GoatYoga · 02/09/2018 21:53

The bloody do has just snaffled the last piece of lemon drizzle - at least it saved me from the sugar!

Lilyhatesjaz · 02/09/2018 21:57

You have just reminded me that there is a packet of jaffa cakes in the cupboard

jumpingeasel · 02/09/2018 21:57

YANBU!! I hate it when people do that!

GileadWivesAreFashionIcons · 02/09/2018 22:01

YANBU. I will never forget the time I was on a thread about what art works people like. It was a lovely thread, and I was happily Googling away some of the names people mentioned when someone came along and took umbrage to the OP’s username. It was ‘bitten nipples’ or something similar and this particular poster said that it wasn’t funny and it was completely triggering for someone like her who had (unfortunately) experienced sexual violence. The whole thread then became about that, the OP was mortified, and no one knew what to say. IIRC the OP said it was breastfeeding related but I felt so sorry for her. Of course it’s dreadful that the poster has experienced such (I’m afraid to say I’m in the #MeToo gang and as such I really do empathise) but I just felt it was so unfair and inappropriate to randomly have a go in the middle of the thread.

I suspect I’ve done the very same now though and made this v. serious Blush

shakeyourcaboose · 02/09/2018 22:07

Concrete slab?! Concrete?! We wernie allowed to even dream of the solidity of concrete. Sludge we and sludge we were proud of!! And your own bloody weed? Show off 'ark at you!!

shamofamockery · 02/09/2018 22:08

1CantPickAName you're singlehandedly putting thousands of dentists out of work and committing serious violence in one act by removing your child's tooth. For shame.

Totally agree with the PP who gave the percentages of normal / snowflake and batshit crazy posters on here!!

shakeyourcaboose · 02/09/2018 22:09

Although agree there was a thread where OP was knackered running after DM while 8.5 months Pg, and of course got the 'how DARE you not worship the earth your mother walks on!! She gave you LIFE!!' shoite!!

1CantPickAName · 02/09/2018 22:11

@arranfan I did offer to punch her in the face but she declined. Kids today are sooo precious and entitled!

1CantPickAName · 02/09/2018 22:14

I was just reading the thread re cinema as a treat when (of course) someone piped up with the classic “some people have to choose between food and heat”. Oh bog off!

lowtide · 02/09/2018 22:18

@1CantPickAName
Some people actually do have to chose. It might be lighthearted in your little bubble. Ffs

Tomatoesrock · 02/09/2018 22:20

Yanbu. It is definitely a mood killer, though I do feel sad for their situation.

Willow2017 · 02/09/2018 22:23

"more than 2 packets of Jaffa cakes is really greedy".
Fixed it for them😀

Its really strange how some people just dont understand 'light hearted' and have to find inflict misery everywhere its really sad they must be such a joy irl!

GunpowderGelatine · 02/09/2018 22:25

I remember a thread where the OP had bought a designer handbag for £40 from a charity shop and realised it was a fake and she asked ISWBU returning it. Someone said "Yes, some people can't afford food, and you're buying a designer handbag, pfft"Confused as if not returning it would magically make food appear to someone starving

elephantoverthehill · 02/09/2018 22:26

lowtide you win the thread.

GunpowderGelatine · 02/09/2018 22:28

My great grandad used to tell me in all seriousness that when he was little he used to have to share a boiled egg between him and his eight siblings. I got a smacked arse for asking why his mummy and daddy had so many children if they couldn't feed them all an egg each Blush I was clearly born to be a MNer Grin

PavlovianLunge · 02/09/2018 22:29

Okay, I’ll bite. We all know that some people have it rotten, that’s always been the case and always will. That doesn’t mean we have to sit wringing our hands and tut-tutting over something lighthearted. With these threads, as with any other, if you don’t like it, and it’s doing no harm, give a little eye roll, if required, and move on.

There’s a time and a place for pretty much everything, including, dare I say it, humour.

HildaZelda · 02/09/2018 22:30

I'm loving this thread Grin

BeverleyHeelBilly · 02/09/2018 22:39

@HildaZelda You can't love this thread as that excludes people who have no hearts. Here, have a biscuit 🍪, well, a sugar free, wheat free, gluten free, fat free, dairy free biscuit. Oh, actually, that's cardboard.

ProudThrilledHappy · 02/09/2018 22:45

Cardboard?! How extravagent are you? Some people have to gnaw on bark you know...

lowtide · 02/09/2018 22:47

@elephantoverthehill
Why thank you! I take a bow 🙇‍♀️ Wink

Knittedfairies · 02/09/2018 22:49

Gnaw on bark? You mean you can afford a dentist?
