Just posting here for traffic. Looking at holidays for next July - hopefully either Bulgaria or Croatia - anyone been? Any recommendations? The hotel I am looking at is near Dubrovonic for Croatia and the other one is near Sunny Beach in Bulgaria.

Ive been to sunny beach in Bulgaria. It was honestly the worst place I’ve ever been. It is very cheap though. I went in September and it was freezing.

I went to Croatia two years ago and it was gorgeous but will be very busy in July in Dubrovnik maybe choose a different major town? Near a port though so you can visit the islands.

I didn't find Croatia overly expensive - at least compared to the UK eating out was cheaper.

Neither! My sister went to Bulgaria hated it full of rude russian tourists and sunny beach is tacky as hell think strip joints very seedy.
Croatia I've only passed through so can't comment but I wouldn't pick either for a holiday there are much better places out there.

We haven’t been to Croatia. But just spent 12 days in Bansko in Bulgaria and absolutely loved it. Cheap food, fantastic jazz festival, plenty of gorgeous pools and spas to use and you can still go up the mountains in summer!

just got back from Bulgaria, we stayed about 7 km from Sunnybeach. SB very touristy and tacky, wouldn't want to stay there, a visit is fine, but no more. Nessebar is lovely. We are returning next year and will be travelling further afield.

Hmm So how do you now there are better places then? Hmm Croatia is utterly beautiful, and has some amazing world heritage sites that are well worth visiting.

Bulgaria is lovely but I would avoid Sunny Beach if you want a family break. There's another town called Albena with a little train that runs between the little hotels and an excellent aquapark which would be quiet and lazy.

Wish I'd seen this thread this morning. We've just booked for Sunny Beach! However it was a decision based on budget. 14 nights for 4, all flights and transfers for under £2,000!
Self catering. Close to beach. It will be fine. Now does anyone have some good stuff to share about Sunny Beach please?
