Tampax

It's getting harder and harder to find the paper applicator ones? They seem to be promoting the plastic ones. I can't abide them as I find them really uncomfortable to put in and I can never get them in properly. You also get less in a box. Also I'm convince they aren't as good. Surely the plastic ones are not as good for the environment? Is it just me that prefers the cardboard standard ones?! I bleed like mad and the plastic ones don't cut it (except for my vagina when it slices me on the way in)

@Bossyboots88 the mooncup has 2 sizes, one for childless under 30s, and one for women who are over 30 or have given birth vaginally.
I've always found the 30 cut off point amusing, does it automatically get bigger/looser when you turn 30 lol?

SalemBlackCat · 02/09/2018 12:08

Do people still use applicators? I know I did when I first learned to insert tampons, but it's kinda like training wheels. We do have Tampax here and with applicators, but most people don't use applicators here.

SilverHairedCat · 02/09/2018 12:08

I'm massively struggling with the Mooncup. It's painful to insert, it slides down when it's in place and I end up with the end piece sticking out of me. It also overflowed and leaked in about 2 hours which was not what I expected, given what it can hold but could be down to the fit. It also made my cramping ten times worse than usual.

I want to battle on, as using large quantities of Super Plus Extra tampons for multiple days every month costs me a fortune and I still have problems with leakage due to them not being absorbant enough overnight. I don't wear pads as I can't get past them feeling like nappies.

OP, I always find Boots, Co-op and larger supermarkets carry the cardboard Tampax. Pearl nip me when inserting, dreadful design and unbelievably wasteful.

Would you like a gold star for just womaning so much better Hmm

Wonkypalmtree · 02/09/2018 12:11

Those plastic tampax applicators are horrid, took six attempts to get it right and the tampon moved about. I use lillets now

itsonlysubterfuge · 02/09/2018 12:11

When I used tampons I only liked the plastic applicators, so much easily to use and smoother to insert. I hated the cardboard ones!

Now I use a menstrual cup. I hate my moon cup, it's HUGE. I have a few different brands that I use and I prefer the £2 one I got from China. Confused

SilverHairedCat · 02/09/2018 12:11

@SalemBlackCat training wheels is a bit patronising. I need them due to the angle of my vagina. It's less painful. I can use lillets in a pinch but not in a small public toilet cubicle as I need to get a leg up to change the angle of insertion. That isn't that easy at my height / build / weight / leg length!

Well now I just feel silly, like I'm 34 and have still been riding a bike with stabilisers Grin

I couldn't use tampons at all until I found plastic ones so I hope plastic applicators don't get banned as some are calling for. A washable re-usable plastic applicator would be fine.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 02/09/2018 12:18

I've been using cardboard tampax.since 13 and not too far off menopause now so no I don't want to try something new.

SalemBlackCat · 02/09/2018 12:21

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend but that is the slang term used for them where I am.

SalemBlackCat · 02/09/2018 12:22

Sometimes I think I'm just a shit communicator.

Happyhippy45 · 02/09/2018 12:22

Tesco do their own brand too.
I started using tampons before applicators were invented so I find the comment about training wheels a bit patronising. I use cardboard applicators nowadays because I find them easier and less messy.
I used to buy tampax when they were on offer but now that it's all plastic I switched to supermarket brands and they are actually pretty good. I should have switched years ago and saved myself a small fortune!

BrendasUmbrella · 02/09/2018 12:22

The Pearl ones have plastic applicators that don't pinch. The top is rounded and just launches the tampon through.

Solo · 02/09/2018 12:26

Mooncup!!

Notmethistimehonest · 02/09/2018 12:33

Yeo, another one here using ‘training wheels’, I am 45 though so clearly even more behind than the rest of you!

With hopefully only a few years left i’ll not persevere with the wildly uncomfortable contortions needed for me to use non applicator tampons.

NameChanger22 · 02/09/2018 12:35

I've always used non-applicator tampons, they're so much easier. With the applicator ones they always ended up too low down. Or the tampon ended up coming out with the applicator. Non-applicator tampons are also cheaper.

Utini · 02/09/2018 12:40

You can buy a reusable plastic applicator. No idea if it's any good as I've not tried it myself.

iwearshortshorts · 02/09/2018 12:50

I do use the plastic applicators as I find the cardboard ones difficult to get the tampon out once inserted and often applicator and tampon come back out.

I am thinking of getting a menstrual cup, but my periods have been so so heavy lately I’m having to wear a tampon and pad at the same time and still leak through my trousers!! Would a moon up work? I just envisage having to empty it every 30 mins Grin

LoniceraJaponica · 02/09/2018 13:33

Having tilted internal plumbing meant that the applicators couldn't go round the bend, which is why I found non applicator tampons much easier to deal with. The applicators just got stuck.

seventhgonickname · 02/09/2018 15:10

Moon cups don't work if you have deluge type bleeding and washing your hands with bottled water also v dodgy.I did use them for the lighter days though and now for bleeding on her since I had problems getting non scented pads

mostdays · 02/09/2018 15:34

I've switched to a cup and won't ever be going back!

I found the plastic applicators awful. The cardboard ones were a bit better, but with tampons I always got on better with non applicator ones. Even then placement has always been a a bit of an issue.

I hate that so many tampons and pads are now scented. Who wants perfumed sanitary protection, really?!

Member984815 · 02/09/2018 15:49

Moon cup users , can I ask if they can b used if you had prolapse issues post birth ?

Lucked · 02/09/2018 16:02

member98 I wonder the same thing as I can't wear a mooncup due to prolapse but I have my eye on this femmycycle designed for a low cervix. Don't want to waste any more money if it is no good.

LuvSmallDogs · 02/09/2018 16:12

My sister and I must be the only women on Earth to bollocks up the mooncup! We have both managed to drop a full one on a toilet floor at least once - I did it at a new BF’s and had to quietly hunt for bathroom spray to clean up the crime scene. Blush They fucking bounce as well.
