It's getting harder and harder to find the paper applicator ones? They seem to be promoting the plastic ones. I can't abide them as I find them really uncomfortable to put in and I can never get them in properly. You also get less in a box. Also I'm convince they aren't as good. Surely the plastic ones are not as good for the environment? Is it just me that prefers the cardboard standard ones?! I bleed like mad and the plastic ones don't cut it (except for my vagina when it slices me on the way in)

Lol at someone asking specifically about tampons and all the cries of 'get a mooncup!'. Grin

Plastic applicators are all pinchy and slicey, I get on fine with the cardboard ones but agree they seem to be getting fewer.

sleepismysuperpower · 02/09/2018 11:24

this website do them x

Fair enough@JacquesHammer
We should all do what we can

Lucked · 02/09/2018 11:29

I agree paper is better but I have switched to lilets because they don't get any longer with wear and the Ultra (orange pack) are the best for heavy flow and they don't do an applicator version of that size.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/09/2018 11:31

Tampax always expand right out of me. Much prefer Lillets.

NameChangedAgain18 · 02/09/2018 11:36

Well, the OP said that they might get one to try, and all of the responses (bar the first) were to her question about it. Are we not allowed to answer actual questions about mooncups now?

To be honest, though, if you can’t cope with a non-applicator tampon, then a mooncup is probably not going to be for you.

Melfish · 02/09/2018 11:37

Boots and superdrug own brand are cardboard. Plastic applicators are everywhere. That and the even more annoying scented sanitary towels.

Angie169 · 02/09/2018 11:37

I have always used lillets none applicator , i do not like tampax at all they do not seem to the job at all for me .
I have though about mooncups but not tried them at home it would not be a issue but how do you go about changing and washing them while you are out ? I work 10 /12 hour shifts so I would have to change it at least once and do not fancy having to wash it in public / work place loos when anyone could come in as see me try to get the clots down the plug hole BLURGH

RestingBitchFaced · 02/09/2018 11:41

Why do you even need an applicator? I've always used Lillets non-applicator ones with no problems. I find the applicators pinch, and I can't get it in the right place. Also find them much better than tampax as they expand widthways - Worth a try OP?

userlotsanumbers · 02/09/2018 11:42

Mooncup all the way. Steep learning curve, but manages with heavy flow much better than tampax. For some reason, I get less cramping with the mooncup too; I can't explain why, but it's a double bonus as far as I'm concerned.

Sarahandduck18 · 02/09/2018 11:43

Another vote to have a go at menstrual cups instead.

NameChangedAgain18 · 02/09/2018 11:43

I don’t understand why applicators are necessary either. I could never get the hang of them.

JacquesHammer · 02/09/2018 11:44

Because all women are different and what works for one won’t for another?

LoniceraJaponica · 02/09/2018 11:45

Why do people need applicators at all? I could never get on with them and used to use Lillets non applicator. You can tell exactly where the tampon is without an applicator, so why are they deemed necessary?

Mari50 · 02/09/2018 11:50

I don’t use tampax anymore because whatever they use to bleach the cotton etc gave me very mild thrush every month, took me ages to make the connection as well.
I switched to non applicator organic tampons first and then a mooncup. My vagina has never been happier....
Plastic applicators are the work of the devil IMO

SausageOnAFork · 02/09/2018 11:51

I have though about mooncups but not tried them at home it would not be a issue but how do you go about changing and washing them while you are out ?

Tip the contents down the loo, wipe round with paper and then pop back in. Give it a proper wash at home.

Flobalob · 02/09/2018 11:56

On the occasions I've used Tampax, they only seem to last an hour or so without leaking so I've found they need changing very frequently.

Therefore, I've used Lil-lets or own brand non-applicator.

Bejazzled · 02/09/2018 11:57

You've raised my awareness of the plastic issue op! We've been trying to reduce plastic use and this was something I hadn't even thought of.

Pamdoo · 02/09/2018 11:58

Never thought to try a non applicator one, as I have enough trouble with the applicator ones but maybe I will try them and it's the applicator making it fiddly.

Some women are sensitive to the bleach in tampons and this can cause cramping as well as headaches and nausea.

Mooncup, Flexfit or Beppy for me. Haven't used a tampon since about 2004. Beppy are the best if you want to have sex. Mooncup or flex if you just want to keep your knickers pristine.

abacucat · 02/09/2018 12:01

Yes I try and get the cardboard ones. Those saying applicators are not needed - I need them. I can't get them in far enough otherwise to be comfortable.

thedevilinablackdress · 02/09/2018 12:02

When I used to use tampons, I did find lilets better as they seemed to shed fewer fibres inside.

Bossyboots88 · 02/09/2018 12:03

Sorry for hijacking your post op but to the mooncup users - how do you know which size to get? Blush

Blondecatlady · 02/09/2018 12:04

@Angie169 if there isn't a toilet available with a sink inside the cubicle, pour the contents down the toilet and wipe with toilet paper. You could also take a small bottle of water in with you to rinse it.
I'll lucky enough to have a toilet with a sink in it at work.

NotTheFordType · 02/09/2018 12:07

@Bossyboots88
If you find one finger fits comfortably into your vagina but two is a stretch, get the smaller one.
Otherwise, get the bigger one.

Don't take any notice of their "under 30" crap.
