To ask where you buy clothes if you’re a size 32?

I’m mostly posting here for traffic.

A friend is a size 32 which is the largest size offered by Evans. She told me this week that they have stopped their size 32 and their biggest size is now 30 (apparently she phoned them to ask why there was nothing in a 32 on their website or in store and they told her they’re not doing them any more).

Other places she shops are Simply Be and Yours but she says she’s not that keen and that the range isn’t as good, and she likes to be able to see the clothes before buying.

Is there anywhere else that goes up to a 32 that she might not know about that I could suggest to her? She seemed a bit down in the dumps about it, I know there isn’t a great deal of choice and this really limits her options.

Yes, she could lose weight and buy smaller sizes, I’m sure she’s well aware that being a size 32 isn’t ideal. No, I’m not going to suggest this to her, for many reasons. No, it’s not actually me posting about a “friend”, I’m trying to be supportive.

Yours have shops dotted around. Tbh though, i think if you're a size 32 you have to accept there is limited choice as its an extreme size.

NewYearmorestress · 01/09/2018 18:55

Ann Harvey go up to a 32 and is sold in Debenhams as well as their own shops. Elvi go to a 28 I think but I don't know how the sizing compares to Evans.

PetalToes · 01/09/2018 18:56

Curvissa have stuff in size 32

DaphneDiligaf · 01/09/2018 18:59

I buy a lot of clothes from the Simply be, Marisota etc group and I think it's much better than Evans.

Melliegrantfirstlady · 01/09/2018 19:00

Google size 32 woman’s clothes. You will get a good range of options that might not be well known on here

NewYearmorestress · 01/09/2018 19:03

Sixteen47 which is Dawn French's line do a 32 I think. Anna Scholz and Dorothy Perkins do a 28 which may fit depending on the garment.

sonjadog · 01/09/2018 19:05

I was just looking at navabi and they go up to a 32.

frogface69 · 01/09/2018 19:05

My friend has things made by a dressmaker. For dressier things like a jacket. Turns out reasonable. She got the number off a card in the shop. It might be worth advertising for someone.

Zoflorabore · 01/09/2018 19:06

Some cities have a Simply Be store, Liverpool does for example.

I'm not that size ( more 18/20 ) and still prefer to buy clothes in shops rather than
Online so totally understand where she is
coming from.

Size 32 limits your friend enough without having to now find new shops when she has been able to shop at Evans for presumably a while.

Did they say why they stopped the size 32? Yes I'm sure demand isn't high but even so,
there will be many ladies this size who will have to shop elsewhere.

Hope she finds something Flowers

Mintylicious · 01/09/2018 19:12

I’d have said try some American retailers? Just be aware that their sizes are different so she may be a 28 or 30 if ordering online from the states.

theOtherPamAyres · 01/09/2018 19:15

Caroline Ann has a home business making clothes, selling through Ebay and Amazon.

Up to size 38

So successful that she has employed further dressmakers.

Once you go over a 24, apart from Yours & Evans, everything is online.

Navabi goes up to 32.

Many “mainstream” shops which claim to have a plus/curve range go to 28 max (many are 26). I’m fortunate to be in that bracket.

Curvissa may have some things. The U.S is definitely better served with brands like Sanctuary, Universal Standard and Eloquii in addition to Gap/Old Navy & supermarkets but the shipping is exorbitant.

BurritoSquad · 01/09/2018 19:23

New look curves range definitely goes to 32 and I think but not certain that Dorothy Perkins does too .

MrsMozart · 01/09/2018 19:25

Jist had a quick look - the Very catalogue does size 32 and above.

I know you said she wanted to see them first, but they do next day delivery and their returns are pretty good.

5000KallaxHoles · 01/09/2018 19:38

Simply Be seem to be closing a lot of their retail stores.

Personally I prefer Yours over Evans a lot - Evans really has disintegrated into Palace of Polyester territory (and once managed the wonderful achievement of making a pair of jeans where ONE leg shrunk in the wash).

ChikiTIKI · 01/09/2018 19:38

I can't help here just wanted to say you're a kind friend :)

Theredtoyphone · 01/09/2018 19:54

Marks and Spencer have a new curve range that goes up to a size 32. It’s stocked in some stores I think. If not I’d suggest ordering for store collection and taking them to fitting room and trying on there. Then you can return things immediately.

Deadheadstickeronacadillac · 01/09/2018 20:28

ASOS go up to a 34 in some stuff...since I discovered their curve range I avoided Evans like the plague!

Deadheadstickeronacadillac · 01/09/2018 20:31

Of course! Thanks pp, I have just remembered the awesome Lane Bryant in the US! I love their stuff and would save up and buy a load of stuff every quarter...such good quality, generous sizing too. Size 28 there is about a 32 here.
If you are anywhere near West Kent I have some stuff in that size from them if you want to try!

Dieu · 01/09/2018 20:59

Hi OP. I agree that you're a lovely friend. I don't mean this disrespectfully (and Lord knows, I'm no skinny Minnie myself!), but can there really be THAT much difference between a 30 and 32? Surely many of the items are elasticated - or stretchy at least - so they may still fit.

evilharpy · 01/09/2018 21:06

Thank you all for such lovely helpful replies :) lots of ideas here for me to pass on and especially the ebay one, I don’t think she has ever used ebay so I’m pretty sure that’ll be a new idea for her.

It’s the least I can do to do a bit of research for her, my friend is such a lovely kind person and has really been there for me through some shitty times and I didn’t like seeing her feeling a bit poo about this!

Bonprix has a pretty good plus sized collection that goes up to a 32.

I buy a lot from Simply Be/Marisota/JD Williams - I am especially fond of Joe Browns dresses - he does some gorgeous jersey knee length dresses that look great with leggings - it is worth looking for them on eBay too, as you can sometimes find a bargain.

minisoksmakehardwork · 02/09/2018 01:06

@Dieu, to be fair to op, that's like asking is there really any difference between a size 8 and an 10 in stretchy garments. The fit all depends on your shape as much as your dress size. Those extra couple of inches can make all the difference.
