To not buy my kids new uniforms?

I will buy them new shoes obviously and I’ve replaced all the white polo shirts because they weren’t that white anymore
But their pants, pinafores, logo’d jumpers & cardigans still fit and apart from one missing button (which I have a spare of) they look fine

I’m thinking of not buying new, but it feels ... wrong? I normally kit them out top to toe every September but I’m just thinking it’s a bit wasteful this year if there’s no need

Am I being tight? Should I just replace? They have been worn a lot I suppose ...

I have done the same, replaced shoes and white polo shirts but that's it. X

Purplepjs · 31/08/2018 09:36

We’re not replacing anything here as it still fits. Seems hugely wasteful to replace for the sake of it.

HesterMacaulay · 31/08/2018 09:36

Why would anyine buy new items that their kids don't need Confused

reluctantbrit · 31/08/2018 09:36

I replace when either outgrown or destroyed/out of shape. I think in 7 years Primary I just bought shoes in August twice. Most uniform was replaced around Easter.

Not all children grow over the Summer, DD never, she has spurs in Spring most years.

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 31/08/2018 09:36

My dc1 had new bits in June (massive growth spurt) and they still fit, so apart from new polo shirts and shoes I haven’t got much else.

Dc2 has had new shoes and hand me downs from dc1, again new polo shirts but all logo’d jumpers are in good condition why would I buy new??

KMoKMo · 31/08/2018 09:36

It would be wasteful. Replace as and when needed. Not tight at all. It’s sensible imo.

SleepingStandingUp · 31/08/2018 09:38

I don't throw out my work uniform once a year and start again irrespective of it being in perfectly fine order. Why would I do the same for the kids?

If it fits and is in good condition, then it gets worn. I might grab something in the next size up in case they growth spurt once the uniforms are less prominently on sale

AppleKatie · 31/08/2018 09:39

Of course not! Why would you buy new if they don’t actually need it? Madness.

Enidblyton1 · 31/08/2018 09:42

YWBU if you DID by new uniform if they don’t need it.

BanginChoons · 31/08/2018 09:43

Items can be replaced through the year as needed.

CasperGutman · 31/08/2018 09:48

Massive déjà vu on this thread for me. Didn't this one come up a few weeks ago? Anyway, it would be massively unreasonable to replace perfectly good clothes that still fit. Why would anyone do that?!

my2bundles · 31/08/2018 09:57

Replace only when needed, including shoes.

belleandsnowwhite · 31/08/2018 09:58

I don't buy everything new every year. I am replacing polo shirts, and pinafores this year as they have had 2 years of wear now. Need to get new shoes too. PE kit will be on its 3rd year this year as it still fits and in good condition. I got new school jumpers during the school year so will replace when they are outgrown or beyond wear. My oldest high school uniform only got replaced twice apart from new shirts every year as it is so expensive but lasted her well.

heavymetalheatherhead · 31/08/2018 10:02

I know what you mean about it feeling a bit wrong! But, I have only replaced polos and shoes. Everything else is fine. It's just a summer holiday ritual, but there's really no need to
Stick to it unless the stuff is wrecked or too small.

Seeline · 31/08/2018 10:04

I only ever replace stuff which can't be mended or no longer fits. My DCs often had a growth spurt over the summer, so sometimes needed new stuff to go back, but sometimes they grew at other times and I would replace mid-term Shock

GreenTulips · 31/08/2018 10:08

I also spread it out over the year.

New shirts tend to be April as that's when the jumpers come off!

Shoes, very much needed this year. Same with trainers and astros.

They've kept ties, shirts, blazers, some skirts and trousers, only need one each due to chewing gum on one and the knees being ripped in another!
