Please look at this image. On Twitter trans rights activists are planning, not for the first time, to lobby Mumsnet's advertisers in the hope of getting them to pull their advertising if Mumsnet doesn't ban people from talking freely about the issue of gender ideology. You may be fed up with this issue. Fair enough. But do you want other people deciding what we can talk about here? Where would that stop?

Mumsnet has millions of users. Most of us spend a lot of money for our households and families in the course of a year. Most advertisers are hardheaded enough to see that they could lose a lot of money if they can't reach a market like this. But we all know that a small determined group can bombard a company with messages, threats and so on and that can be a really unpleasant experience for their staff.

So we may need to be ready to respond to this, and let advertisers know that we want them to carry on advertising here. Tell them about times we've bought stuff from them because of adverts and reviews we've seen here.

Thanks for reading.
