Anybody had the council issue a noise abatement notice on a neighbour?

I know I'm not being unreasonable here because my neour is driving us mad. He plays loud music with ridiculous bass levels most nights until 10pm. We've spoken to him on numerous occasions and sent him letters and now getting the council involved.
Can anyone tell.me stories about noise abatements that have worked as I'm at the end of my tether.
So as not to drip feed he's lived in the house all his life, we've been here 5 years but since his mum died he's invested in a sound system which makes our house shake. We have a young daughter and can't escape the bass.

Yes, we have.

Our neighbours dog used to bark constantly for hours from about 4-10pm every night or as soon as the darkness started to come in (it was winter). We were worried about the dog too as it sounded so sad.

They initially wrote a letter, the neighbours were adamant it wasn't their dog (it was- they were out every night and didn't hear it)

Then, when the noise didn't stop they put recording equipment in our house to record it.

When they got the recording equipment back they agreed that it was too much noise and served the next door neighbour with the letter.

In the end it turned out that the dog was quite poorly and couldn't see (hence why howling every time it got dark), and it was put down on the day after they got served...

I did feel bad - but then I thought if they weren't so damn stubborn and listened to me that their dog was howling constantly they may have been able to get it treated...
