To ask if any action will be taken if a bus runs a red light I nearly hit a pedestrian?

I reported an incident to TFL this morning. I am visually impaired and I carry a white cane. For those who don’t know, those boxes have a little: underneath and it rotates when the light is green for us to go, so I started to cross the road and I was very close to being hit by a bus. Thankfully, this is the first time this has ever happened. I live on a very busy road in London and I have to cross the road every day almost. I just I just felt it needed to be reported since somebody with not so good mobility would have probably been hit. I stopped just in time. But it did scare me. I don’t know if you didn’t see me or what, but I think drivers should be aware. Maybe it was the new bus driver?

i’m sorry for the mistakes, are used dictation. Anyway the title should have read and nearly hit a pedestrian. By the way, I also was trying to say that there is a cone on the boxes that rotates. I am sure the light was green when I crossed.

Well the buses I believe all have cameras and if you’re able to tell them where it happened and roughly what time then I would hope they would check the bus cctv recording.

I’m sorry you nearly got hit, must have been scary. Hopefully the bus company will give the driver a good telling off if they ran a red light and they will be more careful.

I have no advice but sorry this happened to you. Flowers

I know what you mean about the cone (My kids love to feel it)! The one nearest us definitely only turns when it's green to cross. And that is only after it's definitely red for the cars.
How scary for you!
I would complain and give as much specific information as you can as pp said so they can work out who was driving.

hellokittymania · 25/08/2018 14:36

I made a complaint and I put that they should call me. I know the time it happened more less and I know exactly where, since I cross that road very often. Thankfully, the drivers in this area are usually quite good and most stop for me, this was very odd, but it was on a big road. And you don’t have much time to make it across safely when the light turns green anyway. I was really shocked that he just drove right through the light.

My partner reported a bus that nearly mowed me down on Christmas Eve in London. Flew through the light at the green man at 40ish miles an hour. Partner pulled me back. Reported reg/bus number and time to TFL. (And yes I know I was an idiot to see the green man and start walking)

Not a sausage. They never even contacted us. But I hope they get in touch with you Flowers

That sounds pretty scary. You are absolutely right to report it. I just wonder whether it is also worth contacting the organisation responsible for the crossing, so they can check the cone is functioning properly? I think that's usually the local council.

bluerunningshoes · 25/08/2018 14:47

good for you for reporting.
you might not hear back, but when I complained about a driver driving like the bus driver in harry potter I received a nice letter back with the outcome (driver dismissed, staff training on that specific issue)

hellokittymania · 25/08/2018 14:55

I asked somebody on my way home to check and make sure that when the Cohen was turning, the light was green. They said it definitely was. Because I had thought of that. Sometimes that Cohen does not work.

Ah, that was probably an easier way of checking the cone than trying to get through to the right people at the council!

PinkBuffalo · 25/08/2018 15:25

I would definitely chase this up next week when they should have all their admin staff back. I don't know about tfl, but our buses round here all have cameras which will have recorded this.
Pedestrians are vulnerable road users & the driver should have been paying more attention!
I know about the little cones underneath, because I sometimes feel them.
It must have been scary for you OP. I hope you're not too shaken up now Flowers
