Titled with Across in mind Wink

May all the Oaf's problems be big ones, and the events of this week at least be the beginning of the beginning of the end.

Put well, Mr. K.:
Bill Kristol
@BillKristol
I trust that Trump's bitter envy of a far better man gnaws at his soul, such as it is. And I suspect that Trump is made miserable by the inescapable fact that McCain is admired by those whose admiration is worth having, while he is not.

Trump has told White House aides he does not regret saying McCain is not a war hero. He tells advisers that McCain has a vendetta against him and that he wishes he’d step down. He doesn’t plan to say a laudatory word about the ailing senator. Immediately after those comments, I asked Trump at a press conference if he wanted to apologize to McCain. Trump said: “No, not at all.” When I asked him he was familiar with what happened to McCain during his captivity, Trump said: “It’s irrelevant.”

' .... Weisselberg granted an interview to Tim O’Brien, then a reporter for the New York Times. O’Brien’s reporting was telling him that Trump wasn’t worth as much as he said he was. Weisselberg met with him in a conference room in Trump Tower. He said Trump was worth $6 billion and handed O’Brien a tally of assets—that added up to $5 billion. When O’Brien pointed out the discrepancy, Weisselberg stood up.
“I’m going to go to my office and find that other billion,” he said.
He never returned.'

@amyfiscus
Weisselberg does not have blanket immunity, much as all those tweets making grave predictions are predicated on it being so
Prosecutors in New York want to talk to Allen Weisselberg, left, who has managed the finances for President Trump’s company for decades.
Allen Weisselberg, Top Trump Organization Official, Was Granted Immunity for Testimony
nytimes.com
Digitalist
@SomeDigitalist
His limited immunity would still have been enough to implicate Donald Trump in a criminal conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws, and to implicate "Executive-2" in the SDNY charging documents in the same conspiracy and on trust and tax related charges.
SDNY claims multiple Trump Org execs were shown costs of pay-offs by Cohen and directed him to submit sham invoices, then Weisselberg and "Executive-2" directed Trump Revocable Trust to pay Cohen and to improperly expense as legal expenses of the Trust.
According to most recent publicly available Certification of Trustee for the Donald J Trump Revocable Trust, the only two trustees were Weisselberg and Trump Jr, and they have to act unanimously. It does not take much to then deduce that "Executive-2" is likely Trump Jr
So if Trump Jr was among Trump Org execs who directed Cohen to submit sham invoices, directed the Trust to pay them, and directed the Trust to improperly expense them for tax purposes, he is now likely a target of the SDNY and NY AG investigations into this matter.
Since "Executive-2" would have likely known illicit purpose of the invoices, they would be implicated as a co-conspirator in violating campaign finance laws, for breach of fiduciary duty to the Trust, and for tax fraud if invoices were expensed by the trust.
Also be aware that revocable trust income appears on the personal return of the grantor, so if the Trust deducted Cohen's invoices for tax purposes they may have caused Trump to file a false tax return for 2017.
@emptywheel
Thanks!
I'm aware of all that. But that is still Don Jr on lesser charges than he faces in the Mueller inquiry and the President with tax fraud. That's not getting you where you want to go.
@SomeDigitalist
Sure, but I don't see any reason to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. What's especially nice about these SDNY and NY AG cases is that they are relatively easy for the public to understand and slam dunks to prove.
@emptywheel
Yes. And as such far too easy for journalists who need to feed the Trump story to report badly inaccurate stories about the import of them.

Pope Francis speaks out against the "grave scandal" of clerical sex abuse, during his two-day visit to Ireland

( grave scandal - after the utter, prolonged horror the victims endured, and have now so courageously spoken about, this phrase does not come within a million miles of expressing the actual abominations these righteous followers of Christ perpetrated because they could, and get away with it. Just two of thousands: a man raped with a crucifix by his priest; a young woman, escaped from the slavery and imprisonment of Magdalene laundry, raped by a priest from whom she sought help, then turned in to the police. These 'Christians ' created a real hell, on earth, for their victims.)

Thanks for all the links and info everyone.

On Melania double... I would imagine she sometimes just refuses to be in the right place at the right time just to prove to Fat Oaf she can do that, and then they wheel out the double. It was facially she looked different in that clip.

As for Claig... I was always convinced she was a he, I don't know why but I just had a feeling that would not go. I once accidentally called her... him... and he/she really took umbrage. She was plastered everwhere and the most prolific poster ever and then... pooof.... gone...
Very strange.

Skipping to the bottom to post answer to mimi's question. Then I'll finish catching up!

Amending the Constitution can be opening Pandora's box. When someone moves to amend, it opens the floor to any and all amendments, not just the one the person proposing wants to change. In the present atmosphere, if 'Senator A' moved to amend to put something in place about annulling an election, then 'Sen B' could propose that a 'life begins at conception' or 'only a man & a woman can be married' amendment be considered at the same time.

Plus any amendments take time. First there's the time to get it through congress then it requires ratification by 3/4 of the states and they usually allow 7 years for this process, although that timeframe isn't written in stone. The 26th Amendment lowering the voting age passed and was added in 4 months. In contrast, the ERA hung around for 7 years before finally being defeated.

I think at this point, the Dems in Congress probably don't want to open that Pandora's Box. God only knows what we'd end up with!

John McCain 😔😔😔😔😔😔

AcrossthePond55 · 26/08/2018 04:04

I've said before that I disagreed with Sen McCain on many issue, but he was an American Hero who lived according to his personal code of honour. God speed, sir.

If you haven't seen it, this is Meghan McCain's tribute to her dad. I think it will ring true for all of us who have lost loving fathers;

^"My father, United States Senator John Sidney McCain III, departed this life today.
I was with my father at his end, as he was with me at my beginning. In the thirty-three years we shared together, he raised me, taught me, corrected me, comforted me, encouraged me, and supported me in all things. He loved me, and I loved him. He taught me how to live. His love and his care, ever present, always unfailing, took me from a girl to a woman — and he showed me what it is to be a man.
All that I am is thanks to him. Now that he is gone, the task of my lifetime is to live up to his example, his expectations, and his love.
My father’s passing comes with sorrow and grief for me, for my mother, for my brothers, and for my sisters. He was a great fire who burned bright, and we lived in his light and warmth for so very long. We know that his flame lives on, in each of us. The days and years to come will not be the same without my dad — but they will be good days, filled with life and love, because of the example he lived for us.
Your prayers, for his soul and for our family, are sincerely appreciated.
My father is gone, and I miss him as only an adoring daughter can. But in this loss, and in this sorrow, I take comfort in this: John McCain, hero of the republic and to his little girl, wakes today to something more glorious than anything on this earth. Today the warrior enters his true and eternal life, greeted by those who have gone before him, rising to meet the Author of All Things:

The dream is ended; this is the morning"^

Obama’s tweet re: McCain. I won’t bother with Trump’s, particularly as just hours before he said he wasn’t going to say anything about McCain discontinuing his treatment, which in fact says in great deal.

That's a lovely statement from Meghan McCain.

It would always be sad to lose someone like John McCain but it's harder somehow to lose his voice right now. What an extraordinary life and an extraordinary man.

It goes without saying that Trump's 'statement' looks small and petty in comparison to tributes from other politicians. It really shows him for what he is - mean, spiteful, vindictive.

RIP John Cain 😢
