To think that’s if you are potty training then use a potty rather than the pavement

Saw a parent letting their little girl wee on the pavement of a Main Street in town today. Right in front of TK Maxx. What happened to taking a potty with you?
For both my kids I had one of those portable potty’s that you add a liner too- we took it everywhere when we were potty training.
If it was an adult weeing outside TK Maxx then there would be an outcry- why is it ok to let kids wee anywhere?
Aibu?

No and frankly I think it’s vile, though i have no objection with behind a bush next to the motorway etc... I’m sure most parents have been through the “I can’t wait” scenario 😄

mumofmunchkin · 24/08/2018 14:23

Would never let my kid wee on a pavement or hard surface as that would stink, have let them wee in a bush though if we've been caught out, where it will soak away.

SellFridges · 24/08/2018 14:24

We never carried a potty around and I don’t know anyone who did. We would find the nearest loo but I might allow a wild wee in a park or in the countryside.

We did carry lots of changes of clothes around when out and about for inevitable accidents.

Zommum · 24/08/2018 14:25

I guess sometimes you don't get a choice.

Musicforthemasses18 · 24/08/2018 14:25

I don’t have an issue with a wild wee in a bush if desperate but in the centre of a town is so grim.

Portable potty’s that fold down are easy!

You can’t always find a bloody toilet and their not always quick enough to get to one

dementedpixie · 24/08/2018 14:26

I have memories of being held over a drain to pee when desperate for toilet as a child

Musicforthemasses18 · 24/08/2018 14:27

@metoodear so carry a portapotty! If you know you are potty training, surely being prepared is part of that Confused

There weren't portable potties when y DD was small.I used to dangle her over storm drains if caught short.

YeTalkShiteHen · 24/08/2018 14:28

I’ve potty trained 3 kids and never taken a potty with me!

Maybe the bairn was caught short and desperate.

Flamingosnbears · 24/08/2018 14:29

We have always used a carry potty we think it's disgusting and degrading for a poor child to have to use the pavement with proper planning it can be prevented.

MorrisDancingViv · 24/08/2018 14:30

If I was in the town centre then I'd find a toilet, we have about 1 million coffee shops in ours so it's not hard to find a toilet within a short distance. However, I did tell dd to wee on the pavement a few weeks ago as she was suddenly desperate, there were no nearby toilets and our bus was due which involved a 45 min journey that she'd never have made (and only came once an hour). I only carried a potty around for the first couple of weeks. She's been trained for months now, I'm not carrying it around forever!

Musicforthemasses18 · 24/08/2018 14:30

Ok, so maybe even dangling over a drain is a bit better. But right outside TK Maxx on a Main Street- I’m sorry but no! There are loads of cafes etc even nearby!

WhiteCoyote · 24/08/2018 14:32

I see it as the same as dogs weeing on the pavement, grim but sometimes unavoidable.

MorrisDancingViv · 24/08/2018 14:33

Should add we weren't in the town centre(!) well into the quiet suburbs no where nearby to wee!

YeTalkShiteHen · 24/08/2018 14:34

But a kid sitting on a potty in the middle of the street would have been fine? Hmm

ifoundthebread · 24/08/2018 14:35

I've taken dd into a side lane once while we were waiting on the bus, there had been a crash and the bus was running late (we could see it coming in the traffic, which was moving very slowly when she told me she needed to go) if id of wandered to the nearest toilet we would of missed it and God knows how long it would of been until the next one. But middle of a high street is a no from me, not that I've been in a position it was needed.

Musicforthemasses18 · 24/08/2018 14:36

@yetalkshite well yes, because they aren’t covering the street in wee- which will stink Confused

YeTalkShiteHen · 24/08/2018 14:38

Going by that logic dogs shouldn’t be allowed outside either!

howabout · 24/08/2018 14:39

Our pavements are covered in pet wee and excrement. Worse than human imho. Did see someone using a portable potty on the pavement a couple of weeks back - really didn't look any better than dangling over a drain and I did wonder where the parent was going to deposit the contents of said potty. They were actually outside a private nursery, who I am positive would not have minded an emergency toilet request.

funinthesun18 · 24/08/2018 14:39

Even if they did take a potty, there would be someone complaining about that as well. So really why inconvenience yourself carrying a potty around when people are going to pull their face at you anyway?

crispysausagerolls · 24/08/2018 14:42

I find the idea very degrading to a child - surely you just don’t put your child in that situation?!

YeTalkShiteHen · 24/08/2018 14:42

I have to say I wasn’t best impressed at the twat who had placed their portable potty right beside our car (which meant we couldn’t get in) for their child to have a poo outside Blackpool zoo during the holidays!

Especially since the toilets were about 20 feet away!

Musicforthemasses18 · 24/08/2018 14:44

@yetalkshite well of course if there is a loo then use a loo.
But if it’s a choice between pissing in the street and using a potty (which has liners) then the choice is obvious. It’s anti social to piss in the street.

immortalmarble · 24/08/2018 14:44

There need to be far more public loos.
