To do a ouija board on my own?

LucyDontLockIt · 23/08/2018 13:11

Got another threat going but wanted to ask a quick question.

I want to a ouija board to determine whether anything is haunting my house. I'm a non spiritual person, non religious, don't really believe in the supernatural but I'm being tested at the minute.

I've been to some of the most supposedly haunted places on Earth (Poveglia anyone?! Look it up) and felt nothing. So I'm not easily convinced but something isn't right. Nobody will talk to me about it and nobody believes me. I'm tempted to just do a ouija board on my own. If nothing happens, I'll tell myself I was imagining everything else.

AIBU to consider doing this??

Have you considered a light spot of solo Jenga instead?

onetimeposter · 03/09/2018 08:16

Well where did it come from? Id been in there 10 mins previous. I jumped out of my skin when i saw it, and I'm not woo

PenelopeShitStop · 03/09/2018 08:40

A fibre optic plastic sword you say? No doubt something else available from Toys R Us. Is this the reason why the store has gone bankrupt because evil spirits were stealing stock in order to sneak them into innocent people's homes and screw with their heads Hmm

HPLikecraft · 03/09/2018 09:06

Ernest, you clearly are. It likely had been there the whole time, you just didn't notice it before. It was likely darker when you went in later, so you'd see something lit up that wouldn't show do much in the light.

HPLikecraft · 03/09/2018 09:09

Oops, make that "err", not Ernest!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/09/2018 09:11

I wouldn’t do it again because it’s as interesting as watching cricket.

So - marginally more interesting than synchronised swimming, then? Grin

headinhands · 03/09/2018 09:29

Oh come, you can't seriously see that as proof of the supernatural?

Is there some sort of hierarchy of the objects spirits will interact with? It seems they're quite happy to faff about with lights and keys, why not fibre optic toys?

Or are they luddites? Does it take them a long time to accept things? Like how long did it take them to switch over from faffing with gas lamps to electric bulbs? Were they initially suspicious of keys? Yet now it's their preferred choice of calling card?

And just what did they meddle with in prehistoric times when people lived in stone/wood huts? What on earth did they arse about with then? Did they fuck about by moving rocks/piles of sheep shit?

didofido · 03/09/2018 10:47

cactusplant -

All Church of England, and , I think, RC, dioceses have an exorcist (tho' I think they call them something else now, like Deliverance Minister).

If your local priest can't sort it these can be called in and they are experts.

They won't give stuff that you're not married & your kids not baptised.

MorningsEleven · 03/09/2018 10:54

That is disappearing object phenomenon. Anyone who, like myself, has actually experienced it, will know what I'm talking about. You clearly haven't, so you really don't

In our house it's called "not using your looking eyes"

PenelopeShitStop · 03/09/2018 10:54

You pose some very interesting questions headinhands. I'm not sure that sheep poo would have been an efficient conduit of communication for pre historic evil spirits, especially if we're talking pre domestication of animals. I mean, those pesky sheep could have wandered and shit literally anywhere. So some poor evil spirit might have been ages spelling out their dastardly intentions for Mr Uggg and family through the medium of sheep poo, only for Mr Uggg to just assume the bastard sheep had crapped all over his front lawn again Confused

PenelopeShitStop · 03/09/2018 10:58

"Deliverance Minister"? Are they a bit like Deliveroo? Do they bring a pizza with all the trimmings and a side order of fries when they come to exorcise your gaff?

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 03/09/2018 10:58

I’ve had an Ouija board for years, seriously it’s all a load of bollocks and the only time anything interesting came through was when I was bored and was moving the planchette.

But it’s a themed one and looks cool.

liz70 · 03/09/2018 11:19

"In our house it's called "not using your looking eyes" "

And along comes another clueless poster with no direct experience of the phenomen!

headinhands · 03/09/2018 11:20

only for Mr Uggg to just assume the bastard sheep had crapped all over his front lawn again

I love Mr Uggg! He reminds me of dh who would probably assume the same :)

cactusplant · 03/09/2018 11:24

Thank you @didofido

headinhands · 03/09/2018 11:25

Disappearing object phenomenon?!? I've heard it all now. How about 'plate smashing when dropped phenomenon' or 'house getting cold when dh forgets to pay the gas bill phenomenon' or 'grass getting wet when it rains phenomenon'?

JacquesHammer · 03/09/2018 11:38

And along comes another clueless poster with no direct experience of the phenomen!

Isn't it utterly astonishing that none of these amazing - and seemingly very regular - phenomenon are every caught on camera...

Frequency · 03/09/2018 11:39

Disappearing object phenomenon?!?

Oh no, I've had this happen a few times. One time sticks out more than any. I lost my bank card. I knew it was in the house but could not for the life of me find it.

Three days after it went missing, it turned up on the ledge in the conservatory. Which would be fine, except I kept my cigarettes on the ledge in the conservatory, I visited the ledge several times a day to get my fags. My bank card did not spend three days on the ledge.

Now, it could be ghosts or it could be I found my bank card when I was emptying the washing machine and automatically put it on the ledge without registering it what it was. Ex-H could've put it there, DD could've put it there but of course, ghosts make the most sense. It was definitely a ghost Grin

We also have button fastening phenomenon in my house. Every time I take off my work blouse to wash, I undo the poppers, obviously to get it off I have to to get it off. The way I hang it on the line, I know the poppers are open. I normally take it off the line and leave it on my bed while I shower. When I get out of the shower, all of the poppers are fastened. Every time. Whether the kids have gone to school or not.

I genuinely have no explanation but I know whatever it is, it's not a ghost.

(On the off chance I'm wrong and you're reading this over my shoulder Mr Ghost spontaneous dish washing phenomenon would really fuck with my head. And if the floor started sweeping and mopping itself...)

headinhands · 03/09/2018 11:39

I mean, those pesky sheep could have wandered and shit literally anywhere.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my dc a while back. It started off with how someone we know believes her late granddad sends her feathers sometimes.

I've told my dc that if, when I die, I find that I'm able to put objects about to comfort him I'm going to go with dog poos on account of how many there are around where we live Grin

liz70 · 03/09/2018 11:53

"Just watch the Derren Brown "Seance" programme - fabulous!"

Watching it right now. What a load of bollocks - "not" shitty actors my arse. So far it's "explained" precisely nothing pertaining to my situation. It has shown that some people are liars, some people are fakes, and some people are crap actors, but that's hardly news. But, if it makes some of you feel better, then all well and good. Smile

PenelopeShitStop · 03/09/2018 12:16

I would be so fecked off if a dead relative sent me feathers. I dislike birds in general. Why can't it be a fancy bouquet or chocolates?

Why does it have to be feathers, which are found discarded all over the place as a matter of course? Oh wait, hang on Hmm

bathsh3ba · 03/09/2018 12:17

There is actually a Christian explanation as to why people are more likely to see, hear or sense something after a spirit board experience if they are open to the idea that has nothing to do with psychology.

My understanding of the Biblical position on ghosts is that there is no such thing as ghosts because when we die, we either stay dead to await judgement day, or we are judged immediately and either go to Heaven or stay dead (Hell translates as death/grave).

However, there are demonic forces which seek to divide people from God. For people who are certain there is no God, their work is done. There is no need for them to interfere in their lives in any way. CS Lewis said the Devil's greatest achievement is that no one believes in him any more. For people who have a strong faith, they seek to introduce doubt and/or fear. If a Christian is afraid of the spiritual side of life, they will use that fear. For people with a belief in the spirit world but no belief in God, simulating a ghost or demon is a great way to sow fear. And the Devil loves fear because it's the opposite of love and it keeps us away from God.

But these forces have no power unless we let them in and allow them to do so and a vicar remains the best person to go to if you are afraid of this. Unfortunately a spirit board is a great big wide 'Come in' sign.

I realise most of you will discount my explanation immediately because you think the fact I believe in God makes me credible and untrustworthy but just putting an alternative explanation out there.

headinhands · 03/09/2018 13:14

There is no need for them to interfere in their lives in any way.

How would anyone know that a demon was interfering other than usual every day crap stuff happening?

My neighbours a christian. In the wind both our fences came down? Mine is as just the wind his was demonic?

headinhands · 03/09/2018 13:20

CS Lewis said the Devil's greatest achievement is that no one believes in him any more.

You could say the same about Zeus/Father Christmas?

I reject the idea of the devil for the same reasons I reject the idea of all supernatural beings, the case of there being no evidence.

If you want me to accept that the devil exists based on your experiences then I need to believe in every supernatural being anyone has ever believed in which seems a bit daft. Is that what god would want? For me to develop some kind of hybrid Christianity/Islam/Hinduism/Zeusism/Zoroastrianity/etc/etc religion.

bathsh3ba · 03/09/2018 13:26

I'm not expecting you to believe it based on my experiences. (In fact, I've not described my experiences.) I'm just putting a different interpretation out there.

Most things have a simple explanation - but not everything. And of course a fence blowing down isn't demonic. It's just bad luck.
