I seem to be really struggling to find something; I'm looking for a Research / Lab Management Role, or Data Analyst / Scientist Role in London.

A lot advertised, but zero responses to any applications I have submitted.

OP posts:

I have a friend who was a manager there and he got me the job.

GemmaB78 · 20/08/2018 17:40

Saw it advertised on the Uni website. Applied. Interviewed. Offered. Accepted.

I'm an analyst/forecaster.

ChangerChangerson · 20/08/2018 17:42

I approached a recruitment agency a few years back and then when it was time for me to look for another job I spoke to them, they arranged the interview and the rest is history.

serbska · 20/08/2018 17:42

Have you tried a recruiter in your industry? Ask colleagues or friends in other organisations in same industry which they used to get their jobs.

I applied for the current job as a friend worked there and told me of a vacancy, got interviewed for it and heard nothing. Friend then left and the boss contacted me to tell me I was unsuccessful as I wasn't qualified enough. Then offered me an identical job, same hours, same duties in a school round the corner. Which I am qualified enough for.

Longdistance · 20/08/2018 17:46

I put my cv in CV-LIBRARY. Agencies contacted me, the rest is history. Quite easy really.

missedith01 · 20/08/2018 17:48

Saw advert in newspaper, application form, interview, job. I work in legal advice, but in a rural county where there's not usually many application for my kind of work.

Have you tried calling the employers to see if they can make any comment on why they didn't take you on/shortlist/interview? Sorry, the job I've got is the only one I've applied for this decade ... is that still a thing to do?

LakieLady · 20/08/2018 17:50

Saw ad in paper, completed application form, had interview, got job.

Fang2468 · 20/08/2018 17:54

Advert on linked in, shared by a mutual connection. Applied via linked in, then telephone interviewed and 2 face to face interviews.

SardineJam · 20/08/2018 17:56

Advertised on LinkedIn - popped up as a suggestion because of other roles I had been looking at

meadowmeow · 20/08/2018 17:57

I'm self employed.

Decided I wanted to do this job. Went for it.

missyB1 · 20/08/2018 17:59

Started volunteering there two days a week. Let them know I loved it and would like a paid job, got offered an apprenticeship after a few months.

FASH84 · 20/08/2018 17:59

Applied (competency based questions) assessment day, interview, job offered. Promotions since have been on interview, current secondment was as above, competency based application, first interview, assessment day, second interview, offered. Have you asked someone to look at your applications if your consistently not hearing back, maybe your style isn't selling your capabilities well.

FASH84 · 20/08/2018 18:00

JustTheLemons · 20/08/2018 18:01

Someone messaged me after seeing my profile on LinkedIn for both this and my previous job- defo recommend keeping it updated

Sharkwithknees · 20/08/2018 18:01

Approached on LinkedIn and honestly don't think I'd have applied for it off my own back!

mimibunz · 20/08/2018 18:03

Started as a temp, through an agency. They were recruiting for the position and encouraged me to apply.

LemonysSnicket · 20/08/2018 18:06

I took a step down and went in at a lower position than I merited

happypoobum · 20/08/2018 18:06

Friend who was leaving the job begged me to apply for it.

RealSLOAH · 20/08/2018 18:08

I kept looking and applying for roles that suited my circumstances and matched my skill set and aptitude. It wasn't an instant, "I'd like a job now; if I apply I'll snag the first job vacancy I see."

It's rare that only one person will apply for any job advertised. Sometimes, you're not rejected because you aren't qualified or aren't suitable. Employers just can't hire 10 equivalently well-qualified people if they only have one vacancy. It really helps to remember that.

I know it sucks when you feel you're not having sufficiently successful responses to your efforts and hard work. Best wishes with your job hunt. x

Ooooooops · 20/08/2018 18:11

Emailed my old boss and asked if she was looking for anyone. In fact emailed everyone I'd ever worked with!

apostropheuse · 20/08/2018 18:12

Saw an advert in a newspaper, applied, had an interview, made the short leet, had second interview, job was offered and I accepted.

RedneckStumpy · 20/08/2018 18:15

Not me but DH, we moved to the USA, with no job lined up. He uploaded his CV to monster, then got a call 30mins later asking if he wanted a interview. Got the job next day.

QuantumGirl · 20/08/2018 18:19

Don't worry @WeAreGoingOnAJobHunt. This time of the year is very quiet for job hunting. It picks up in September then slows down again in December then goes back to normal in January. I'm sure you will be called for a few interviews in the next weeks.
