To wonder how the fluffing hell you can 'fall off' a cruise ship?!

I mean HOW? Just HOW?

I am an average height (5 ft 4ish) and the rail was up to my chest when me and DH went on a cruise ship 3 years ago. It was like this on the attached pic.

So sorry to hear about your dad, Five Flowers

I'm fancying St Petersburg for my 50th

An absolutely brilliant city - the Baltic itinerary is great too, often including Stockholm and the gorgeous Tallinn (I've recently got back from my second Baltic one, this time on the wonderful Celebrity Silhouette)

If touring St Pete's, though, don't even think of a cruise tour, with their huge coaches and delays; you want Alla Tours who carry a maximum of 16 and treat you like family. Trust me, they're the last word in excellence Smile

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2018 18:03

BTW someone mentioned a cruise section on here, but I can't seem to find it ... any chance anyone could give a link, please?

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 18:04

Under "Travel".

SouthernComforts · 21/08/2018 18:04

It's funny that there's a suggestion that being drunk may have helped this woman stay calm and survive, yet the argument against there being a 'Manchester pusher' pushing people into the canal is that the victims are drunk and just drown.

Just a thought, not saying I believe in the pusher.

MorrisZapp · 21/08/2018 18:05

Great advice! For a baltic cruise, would you take your ten year old son, or go as a couple? Ideally?

LeftRightCentre · 21/08/2018 18:06

I'd go as a family, Morris. Cruises really do have something for everyone.

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 18:06

Has anyone done Alaska? That's my bucket list tour. If so who with and do you recommend?

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/08/2018 18:08

HollyGibney, are you the Disney food group person on FB I know?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2018 18:10

Morris personally I'd prefer "no kids" if possible for this one, but of course it depends on the kids. Many probably wouldn't be interested in slogging round some of the destinations, so maybe it's worth focusing on what the actual ship has to offer to make it up to them Wink

Greenteandchives · 21/08/2018 18:10

Holly Princess are rumoured to be good for Alaska.

HollyGibney · 21/08/2018 18:12

I think we are in a couple of groups together @IHaveBrilloHair. Think we might be on IG too Smile

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/08/2018 18:14

Yes, I know you Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/08/2018 18:17

Anyway, I just want to mooch around the ship, Dd17 would go to the teen club, or stay at home.
A friend I know well might come too.
I can't afford it atm but it's definitely something I'm keen on doing in the future.
Also the food

HappenedForAReisling · 21/08/2018 18:18

@HollyGibney I did an Alaska cruise last year with Celebrity. It was absolutely amazing.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 21/08/2018 18:26

we did Alaska with Princess, I picked them over the other options as they have on-board naturalists (had to make sure I typed that carefully Wink) and also Libby Riddles (first woman to win the Iditarod) comes on board and gives a fascinating talk AND brings some sled dogs.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2018 18:30

I must admit I love Princess anyway - done 7 with them, and for me they have an ideal balance of formality and fun, along with brilliant service and a nice international crowd

I also really like the way the ships look, but that's more subjective of course

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2018 18:35

Thanks, Holly - just found the section; not much traffic on it though!!

ajandjjmum · 21/08/2018 19:25

Just about to book Alaska with Silversea for next year - be a change from our normal sunny destinations, but really looking forward to it.

LeftRightCentre · 21/08/2018 20:40

I've not done an Alaskan cruise but my best friend and her family used Princess and had a really good experience. Soooo, want to do the Panama Canal one now!

LeftRightCentre · 21/08/2018 20:44

this is the stuff of DREAMS!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 21/08/2018 20:56

aj when Ds leaves home I’m rewarding myself with a Silversea Cruise!

thenightsky · 21/08/2018 21:25

LeftRightCentre OMG at that world cruise. 8 months away! Shock

£66k!

youarenotkiddingme · 21/08/2018 21:33

That Panama Canal cruise sounds amazing.

How long does it take to go down it? And where else does the cruise go?

How rough is the sea?!

AlpacaPicnic · 21/08/2018 21:34

Ooh, cruisey people, can you answer me a daft question...? If you go on a British Isles cruise, do you need a passport? Mines expired and I don't really need to renew it for a few years but if I could get a cheap deal on a local cruise, I might be tempted by it...

EnglishGirlApproximately · 21/08/2018 21:48

There are two ways to do the Panama Canal, start sndvend pints depend on cruise line. Some just go to Gatun Lake then head back the same way, others will do the full transit. I’ve done it a few times working on cruise ships and my favourite was Barbados to Acapulco, fabulous itinerary - we also did Jamaica, Costa Rica and Huatulco on that cruise. On another itinerary we did Columbia and Guatemala. It’s a brilliant journey, fascinating to watch the mules and life on the canal.
