Okay, I was mning on my phone a bit whilst there, but after a previously shit couple of hours on Friday with MIL on the palliative ward, I thought fuck it, so I went to Carluccio's on me tod. It was heaving but I had no problem getting a table for one. Had 2 negronis and a salad
I used to do this occasionally when I lived abroad but have never had the bollocks to do it here. I felt so grown up am 46

I do it too. Table for one please. Never had a problem with it. One day someone told me that when they see people eating out alone they feel sorry for them!!! Made me laugh.

stevie69 · 19/08/2018 15:48

Oh, I love it. Good food. And excellent company Wink

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/08/2018 15:49

I've found Carluccio's to be very welcoming to solo diners. I used to regualrly stop at one of their branches for breakfast and the staff were always so friendly and really looked after me. I miss those days of Carluccio's breakfast!

MrsMozart · 19/08/2018 15:49

Y'up. Get to do it occasionally. Chill time.

Fatbelliedgirl · 19/08/2018 15:51

Good for you OP! I would love to dine alone but just don't have the self confidence.

DramaAlpaca · 19/08/2018 15:52

I enjoy dining alone. I don't do it often, but I like it when I do. I take a book & relax eating nice food with a glass of wine. And yes, it does feel very grown up.

catgirl1976 · 19/08/2018 15:53

I hope your boyfriend don't mind it

OllyBJolly · 19/08/2018 15:57

I do it all the time and love it!

and I particularly enjoy Carluccio's breakfasts.

DameDoom · 19/08/2018 16:01

For the first 15 mins or so I did feel dead awkward but that quickly wore off and as you said HundredMilesAnHour Carluccio's is welcoming to solo diners. It was so liberating.
Feels like I am having to do so much adulting at the moment that I thought I'd actually be one.

I've done this before, I think Strada was the last place, they do delicious ravioli! I take a magazine or book and my phone and thoroughly enjoy it! You've tempted me now, OP. I rarely get a moment to myself these days, next weekend when DH is away I will do it.

JellyBears · 19/08/2018 16:06

I eat alone regularly haha it’s nice, I take a book and enjoy me time.

I love dining by myself, peace and quiet and as someone else said, you always know the company will be excellent! Grin

I hope your boyfriend don't mind it

Confused Eh? Hmm

Oh, and to this pp my DH "lets me out" and doesn't mind me doing it at all. and if he did I'd bloody do it anyway as he's not the boss of me Grin
Hmm Biscuit

catgirl1976 · 19/08/2018 16:10

Katie Perry. Never mind. Grin

Cheesymonster · 19/08/2018 16:11

I got it, catgirl Grin

fruityb · 19/08/2018 16:11

I loved sitting in cafe Nerro with a book and a latte and a panini before our son was born. I spent a bit of time in there when I was pregnant and just loved it. It was always pleasant and the staff were lovely. I look forward to doing it again one day!

catgirl1976 · 19/08/2018 16:11

Phew - thank you Cheesy Grin

NameChangingParanoid · 19/08/2018 16:12

I enjoy it, also love going to the cinema on my own.

The younger me would never had dreamed of it! (I’m only 39!).

keyboardkate · 19/08/2018 16:14

I mean who gives a shit. Your money is just as good as anyone else's.

Bet men don't care and will eat anywhere, something to ponder on. Doesn't seem to bother them much!

I will eat wherever I fancy, but TBH whether I'm alone or in company I just do not like faff and candles, hushed tones and white tablecloths that inevitably end up with the evidence of my spilling some red wine there! So I avoid those places.

Casual dining alone is a revelation. It just takes balls for the first time, then it's fine.

rainbowsandsmiles · 19/08/2018 16:15

Ah right, the Katy Perry reference passed me by! Oops.
Yes to the cinema too. Love going to the cinema alone, much better that way anyway as you have no-one fidgeting or waffling next to you and get all the popcorn to yourself

DameDoom · 19/08/2018 16:17

I have also just booked a ticket to see a Kate Bush tribute act on a Friday night in Oct. DH is out that night and I haven't even forced a friend to come with me.

I'm a little puzzled: I've been eating in restaurants and going to the cinema alone since I was 12. I never thought about it; it was just something I did out of choice and / or utility.

Is this not the norm?

User12879923378 · 19/08/2018 16:21

Have always liked dining alone. Why would anyone feel sorry for me? I travel for business a lot, the job is full on and I like to unwind over a nice meal and a good book in the evening. I feel a bit sorry for anyone who feels sorry for me, as it can only mean that they are too scared of what strangers might think to go and have a meal consisting of as much as they like of whatever they want.

sirlee66 · 19/08/2018 16:22

I got it to cat made me chuckle and now the song is stuck in my head!!

Pancakeflipper · 19/08/2018 16:22

I am going to have to go to gigs on my own. I drag others there who really would prefer to pick out their own nose hair bit by bit. For some reason finding that scary. Dunno why cos' once the band is on I could there alone or with masses of others.

I have found most 'Ask' restaurants lovely to solo diners ( used to work away alot and loved eating out alone - me and a book. Beautiful quietness).
