To think we have just entered the very best part of the year

It’s just cool enough to not sweat in light clothing (in London) - yesterday I only broke out on the bus

The trees are turning and the flat grasslands are back to being green after the recent rain

There’s that lovely approaching term time feeling

It’s now the right weather to get outside for proper walks instead of walks in the shade with the dogs

If you like the ‘C’ word then you can start to indulge by buying the ‘get ahead for the C word Good Housekeeping magazine/start shopping/start making crafts’

All of the lovely autumn and winter clothes are either online or coming into the shops

It’s the main time of year when you can take something new up - new classes, new terms, new resolutions (more people take stuff up now than January)

Spring is nice but seems more unpredictable than Autumn to me (well it was this year with that second lot of snow that killed my bulbs). Winter is good, the first part to me but not as soon as it’s January and there’s at least 3 more months of biting cold.

So now, now is the best time imo - the longest run of the best months - the 4 months to Christmas.

@ChipsAndKetchup I'm not a fan of spiders either. We get loads here - Im not sure what type they are but they don't move quickly - there are about 7 in our bathroom at the moment. I just leave them alone - they don't really move much at all. I don't like the big hairy house spiders though. Those bastards can move fast!

FabulousTomatoes · 19/08/2018 10:08

Autumn has always been my favourite time of year. So much so that I’m beginning to not look forward to a holiday we’ve booked over October half term! First world problems eh?! It seemed a great idea in January but now I’m sad that we’ll be missing Halloween and Bonfire Night 😭. After such a hot summer here in the UK, I’m so ready for some crispy days and dark evenings of hot chocolate, candles and hygge!!

Slippery · 19/08/2018 10:08

NO! I hate this time of year. It's just Summer dying Sad

HushabyeMountainGoat · 19/08/2018 10:11

You're absolutely right OP. I love everything about this time of year and up until Christmas. I had an autumn wedding for this reason and got some lovely photos at sunset with all the orangey colours

Ginorchoc · 19/08/2018 10:11

Yes, my favourite time, first fire pit last night, with my little garden lights and blanket and a glass of wine.

LARLARLAND · 19/08/2018 10:12

I love this time of year. I don’t dislike Summer (although this Summer has been utterly shit for non weather related issues) but I love the Autumn months.

ScreamingValenta · 19/08/2018 10:16

I enjoy early summer, June and July, but by August I'm always tired of it, and August always seems a really long month. I like autumn, but I'm not a fan of winter. If we could skip from autumn back to spring I'd be happy.

MyBrexitUnicornDied · 19/08/2018 10:40

I love autumn and Christmas. January and February are god awful but autumn is amazing.

I’m not bothered by spiders, which is a big bonus as spiders seem to love our house.

ilovesooty · 19/08/2018 10:46

AfterSchoolWorry has nailed it for me.
And the romanticised list of Autumn activities makes me want to throw up.

IrenetheQuaint · 19/08/2018 10:52

September and October are fine if the weather is nice, but November is by far my least favourite month of the whole year. Cold, wet, dark, with months of cold, wet and dark to come. Horribly busy at work and all the exhaustion of preparing for December/Christmas without any of the fun. Garden miserable and hard to get motivated to do any outdoor exercise. Getting to light my woodburner occasionally is not enough of a compensation.

Goth237 · 19/08/2018 11:45

@hammeringinmyhead me too! When are you due? I feel like the cool weather couldn't come fast enough. What a year to be pregnant for the first time when summer decides to drop in for months on end >

PaigetheRepahite · 19/08/2018 11:54

@chickenowner oh my word, those boots are amazing. Where did you buy them???

PaigetheRepahite · 19/08/2018 11:56

And yes this is the best bit of the year by miles. Lovely crisp cold mornings, crunchy leaves, jumpers, warm socks, stews, coats, gloves, big thick duvets and throws, low sunlight coming through red and yellow leaves on the trees, The anticipation of Christmas, hot chocolate, and a billion other things make it amazing.

confusedandemployed · 19/08/2018 11:57

I fucking hate autumn. Spring and summer are wonderful, long, bright days. Autumn is drizzle, early nights and depression.

starfish8 · 19/08/2018 12:10

I am so enjoying some cooler weather after the intense heat! I'm a big crafter, so starting this today as a lovely cosy project which will be ready to snuggle up in as autumn arrives.

Plus, my son starts school, mine and his birthday, Halloween, Bonfire night - Bring it on!

Governoress86 · 19/08/2018 12:20

I love autumn and winter. I get seasonal depression in the summer, so as soon as DD is back to school I start in making crafts and planning stuff for Halloween , bonfire night and Christmas.

I love sorting out all my clothes for winter and the fact I can cuddle up to my partner now the weather is cooler at night.

Starfish8 that is a lovely project, I might start doing that. I'm a big knitter and crocheter. I start making gloves, hats and scarfs and socks andnl throws this time of year.

echt · 19/08/2018 12:43

I'm having autumn envy and it isn't even spring yet in Melbourne. I loved English autumns, and the Victorian ones, too.

mumtav · 19/08/2018 12:46

What a lovely post OP. Very refreshing after some I've read recently on various other topics. And fully agree.. autumn is a lovely season!!! I'm excited for strictly to start !!

Bluelady · 19/08/2018 12:48

You remember Victorian autumns?! How old are you?

echt · 19/08/2018 12:50

Snurk. 🇦🇺 This kind of Victorian.

echt · 19/08/2018 12:51

That was meant to be a flag.

eurochick · 19/08/2018 12:52

Nope. We're just coming into spider season. Shudder.

echt · 19/08/2018 12:54

Oh, it turned up.🐨

SoupDragon · 19/08/2018 12:54

I can feel my mood deteriorating as I see summer ending. I hate autumn and winter.

OutPinked · 19/08/2018 12:57

I love autumn and I love winter up until Christmas then it goes downhill. January is always a bleak, dreary month.

Autumn is wonderful though. I love Halloween, the colours outside, not profusely sweating whenever I leave the house, not needing a fan on 24/7 to be comfortable, lighting my scented candles and drawing the curtains on a night- always feels cosy.
