"some psychics are genuine."

No. Some claim they are, because they make money from it.

Some think they are, and they are wrong.

The there is no point in having any further discussion with you about this. You think they are not real, I do think that some of them are genuine. You will never change my mind and I could clearly never change yours.

Can I ask why you think that?

My own experiences, my Mum's. Things that have happened that cannot be explained. I understand about the human need to want things to be true, but I see past that.

Also for all those going on about Derren Brown, maybe you should reflect on the fact that he is being paid for what he says too.

MurunBuchstansagur · 22/08/2018 14:42

If they could do what they claim I would have absolutely no problem with them getting paid.

There’s no evidence they can though. Not when you remove the chance to cheat or guess.

MurunBuchstansagur · 22/08/2018 14:43

Um yeah Derren Brown gets paid. And?

Butterymuffin · 22/08/2018 14:47

Derren Brown doesn't claim to have special powers. Quite the opposite.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2018 14:48

Derren Brown gets paid. And?

Lightsonthewater · 22/08/2018 14:49

Sorry if I’ve missed it upthread Murun but what was it about the readings you’ve had that have shaped your view?

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2018 14:52

You could change my mind instantly. Find me a psychic you think is genuine and I will ask him or her to get in touch with any of a huge number of my dead friends and relations and I could easily tell whether they were genuine or not.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2018 15:10

But that won’t happen. The psychic will say my aura is too negative or something. If you had met my mother, you would realize it would take more than a negative aura to keep her from one of her children........

badadadada · 22/08/2018 15:23

NC for this. Always thought most 'psychics' are cold reading attention seekers, but am spiritually open and a bit woo. Me and a friend decided to have a private reading on a recommendation and she came to my house. We had never met this woman, she didn't know a thing about us except my phone number and we had only spoken to arrange the reading. I was pregnant at the time and as soon as she walked in she asked whether I knew the sex - I did - and she said 'oh I'm OK to tell you it's a boy then, your nan is here and has a blue basket for him' (said child is my DS and nan had died 5 yrs previously), she then went on to tell me DS was a gift from the child I had just lost - I had miscarried 3 months before getting pregnant and it was not public knowledge I was even pregnant. She told me to be careful at work and I was going to be betrayed by 'snakes' there - a month later I was made redundant at 30wks pregnant through unfair dismissal after a manager and colleague had created false work/sick records. She also asked me whether my OH at the time had any strange occurrences in the kitchen recently - literally minutes before she arrived the colander hit his head after seemingly flying off the top of the cupboard - apparently this was my nan, she hated him and warned me to leave him, she was purposely trying to hurt him! Psychic also told me I would be packing my bags and leaving around the time I had DS - 2 weeks after I had him I moved out because ex turned violent.

Lightsonthewater · 22/08/2018 15:35

Maybe your mother just wouldn’t come through to that medium Bert. Mediums don’t control who comes through for them.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2018 15:55

I’ve never asked her to “come through”. But if she did I could very easily prove whether it was her or not. It’s interesting how the friends and family of non believers never “come through”.........

Lightsonthewater · 22/08/2018 16:12

Again Bert, it’s not a case if you asking. A friend of mine, a staunch non believer, had a reading to prove the point you’re making and was extremely shaken when her mum came through. A very specific reading.

Belina · 22/08/2018 16:20

why do people come on these threads to say how much they don't believe, nobody gives a shit about your opinion because this thread isn't about you or your non believing opinion.

Anyway Op I saw one who was popular amongst my family because she said what my cousins future baby will look like and that she was a she. I did not find her good she did not read me well I don't think

I like tarot readers I seen a good ones said things like I was dating a football player who had a girlfriend (which I suspected) , my ex was indian (he was half and doesn't have an indian name)
described my grand father and aunty problems with health

but one thing none of them picked up on my mother being dead because im young which I suspect but that is what makes me 50/50 on them

KidLorneRoll · 22/08/2018 16:25

"I do think that some of them are genuine. You will never change my mind and I could clearly never change yours."

Firstly, you could very easily change my mind - just find me one so-called psychic who can demonstrate their 'gift' under controlled conditions. That should be really easy if there is any truth in it.

Secondly, I don't really mind what people believe. What I do object to is the frauds who prey on the vulnerable, charging money for nothing more than a bag of lies - and it is all lies, having done a lot of research in the area. For instance, there was a case where a "psychic", having extracted that a woman in an audience had had a miscarriage through standard cold-reading, told her that the child "forgave her".

Fucking scum.

MalachisMum1 · 22/08/2018 16:30

My mum saw a psychic when I was about 7 and was told that I would be fiercely independent, studious and help a lot of people in my career. She thought that it was generic nonsense at the time and It seemed rubbish as I was a bit wild all through school. However I moved away from home aged 16 (lived completely independently since) I've worked in mental health and youth work since I was 18 so helped many people. And in my early twenties began an open university degree which I study hard at and am set to get a first class honours degree... all of this seemed unlikely when I was 7 and even less so at 14 lol x

Lightsonthewater · 22/08/2018 16:42

Kidlorne, I couldn’t agree with you more on the scum element.

OliviaStabler · 22/08/2018 17:36

Um yeah Derren Brown gets paid. And?

It has been said on this thread that no psychic should charge money and how awful they are for that etc. I am simply pointing out that the darling of he non believers charges money too.
