I do drink, I meant stink

I think washing every other day is fine. I doubt all the people on this thread had daily showers during childhood; I def didn't as water in my village was sometimes scarce especially during the summer. Believe it or not we didn't go around picking our noses to escape the smell.

shapeshifter88 · 19/08/2018 21:03

all bodily secretions change after puberty though which is why kids don't need the same frequency

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 19/08/2018 21:18

I'm happy to admit that I don't shower everyday. Obviously did when it was sweaty hot but usually with 3 small kids and school etc. I regularly run out of time. Baby sleeps in my room where the only bath is so I don't get an evening bath. I do babywipe my essentials - pits and bits - if I don't have a shower. Also not a massive handwasher, I do for a poo but if I don't wee on my hands then I don't always wash them unless I'm prepping food or feeding baby.

Haven't read the full thread but I'm so not sure why it's such a drama not to?!

Also don't use shampoo, ever, nothing smelly or unpleasant about my hair.

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 19/08/2018 21:21

I have to say also that having small kids that like to get into my bed and snuggle in the morning makes me all sorts of happy. I've got plenty of years when they won't want me near them to shower every morning if I want to. I'd much rather be more relaxed in the mornings and have those snuggles rather than rush around.

OFuckShitAndBollocks · 19/08/2018 21:22

Last also....I also think that excessive cleanliness or at least a being so csmall ncernwd about it is a sign of mental health issues too no?

As a child we used to have a bath every couple of days and would normally have to share the water. My parents were not wealthy, we didn't have a boiler. Hot water was from an immersion heater, I always remember parents commenting on how expensive it was, hence why water was only heated for when it was needed. We didn't even have radiators in a circa c17 house, winter was like the artic!

Then dad put in a back boiler, which appeared to be uncontrolled, ( big open fireplace) so then we had so much hot water, my parents had to turn the hot taps on and run it all off and baths in abundance.

Now I still shower every other day, unless it's steaming hot summer or I fallen into the horses muck heap! Showering daily ruins my skin and hair

I showered every other day whilst unemployed post 2nd cos I didn’t see people very often (would shower if I were planning on socialising) & living on benefits for a year & suffered with bedroom tax & could barely afford the bills! Would generally do bits & pits, face etc daily.

exaltedwombat · 19/08/2018 22:38

Don't worry about your partner. A bit of body musk can be very erotic. Is it true that Napoleon sent a messenger ahead to Josephine "Back in three days. Don't wash'"?

It’s actually not that healthy to shower or bath (whatever) everyday. Unless you’re a sweat pit. I would say people that have to shower or bath everyday and call others disgusting or mentally ill if they don’t, are bordering on OCD and mental issues themselves! I don’t wash my hands all the time (except after the toilet) and I RARELY get ill. Every germaphobe I’ve known gets constantly sick. So chill OP, showering 4 times a week is good. Bloody water wasters....

Frazzledstar1 · 19/08/2018 22:44

Our shower is currently not working and baths every day is a hassle and uses up so much water so I tend not to do it daily at the moment - more like alternate days really. But I take into consideration what I’m doing eg if I’ve exercised I bath; if were just staying home for the day and not going out anywhere then I might skip it unless I felt particularly smelly or dirty.

Always always wash my hands though, especially when cooking and using bathrooms.

That’s a fucking disgusting way to speak about women, Mayfly Confused

@Mayflymaynot was it really necessary to use such disgusting language? And several posters have explained their mental health / financial issues which you soundly dismiss. Have some self control.

I don't feel the need to shower every day, some days I just have a wash and yes, it is quicker. However, if I lived in a house without a shower, I'd use those things you put on the taps. I hate washing my hair in the sink. I think you can get them for about £5 so everyone can have a basic shower.

BriKelly10 · 19/08/2018 23:00

@Mayflymaynot were you making a joke? Because I at first thought you couldn't be serious and were therefore being pretty funny, if a bit too vulgar.

Anyway, I shower everyday. Or at least almost everyday, there are the odd days where I'll just wash my face and other bits, but those are rare. I will admit to only using hand sanitiser after going to the loo in public bathrooms, I've read too many stories about how unhygienic the soap dispensers are to ever use them lol

ILoveMyDressingGown · 19/08/2018 23:10

However, if I lived in a house without a shower, I'd use those things you put on the taps that only works if your water pressure is high enough. Where I used to live the water tank was on the same level as the taps in the bathroom and there was no shower installed. I tried one of those shower attachments but even with the taps on full blast there was just a dribble of cold water coming out of the shower head. I could not afford to have an electric shower fitted and the housing association wouldn't provide one.

Back in the day when my immigrant parents arrived in London. They bathed once a week at the local bathhouse, which is now a very fancy apartment block. I didn’t notice any smell off them. Perphaps a posh wash and the fact we all stank together!

LG123 · 19/08/2018 23:16

I've only read the first few pages and I've never laughed so hard, thought it was going to bring on labour 😂😂

JW1226 · 19/08/2018 23:26

🙈
I shower everyday if I have a 💩 I have a shower after. Couldn't imagine having sex with a shitty arse lol!
Sometimes I wash twice a day morning and night!

Basic hygiene!

ILoveMyDressingGown · 19/08/2018 23:34

if I have a 💩 I have a shower after I tend to use toilet paper to wipe my arse after a shit. Much less faffing about than jumping straight in the shower and uses a lot less water and energy.

MeyMary · 19/08/2018 23:45

I like to use a bidet. But toilet paper does the trick as well imo ;)

DixieFlatline · 19/08/2018 23:54

Washing twice a day is not 'basic hygiene'.
