To not expect to see a naked man playing football in the park...

I had a friend staying over the weekend and we decided to take DD to the park at about 10 on Sunday morning. We walked up the road toward the entrance as as we got closer I could see teh whole park was empty apart from a 'large' man playing football in what appeared to be a skintight beige trousers and top.
My friend and I both stopped as he bent over and realised that he was actually stark bollock naked. He spotted us and put on some skimpy pants, and then carried on kicking a ball against the kids playground fence.

I called the police as I didn't fancy approaching him and they duly turned up and escorted him home. Apparently he thought it was most unfair as he didn't see what he had done wrong because he put his pants on when he saw us!

I don't think my friend will be back anytime soon.....

I have a vague recollection of a case in a very liberal bit of the US which was also a warm area where it was held as the people there were so laid back and liberal etc the nudity to the populace there wasn't offensive. Where else? A few jungle tribes are completely naked.

What about near beaches in Rio where there is just about a thong on there.. mind you they are the prettiest women on earth so we can make allowances.

bookwormmum · 04/06/2007 16:48

I wonder if stomach worms are more common in countries where sunbathing naked is the norm? I occasionally think about that as my cat rolls around the grass (and how difficult it is to worm her).

LoveAngel · 04/06/2007 16:53

I just find nudists funny. Its like they're trying to make a point, even though their nudity is completely impractical most of the time. WHY play tennis with your nuts / baps swinging in the wind? Its so silly.

pointydog · 04/06/2007 16:55

What a fantastic story he's given you. You should shake that man by the.... hand

bookwormmum · 04/06/2007 17:15

I once saw a man eating a sausage in one hand and holding another in his hand. Then I realised he only had one sausage..... near his mouth.

This was about 7am though and he definitely was a weirdo. I just got on my bus to work and left him to his.... sausages. Sounds cowardly but I was a bit frightened to walk past him to the phone box to ring the police in case he started shouting abuse at me or worse. I can laugh about it now though.

In the south of France it's not unknown for people to wander off the beach in just bikini bottoms and flip flops.

Judy1234 · 04/06/2007 17:40

LS, that's absolutely fine. I don't really have a problem with the full nudity either particularly not that far from beaches and as long as it's warm.

Blu · 04/06/2007 17:44

Poor man - apparantly has some form of SN, but actually puts his pants back on and still gets the cops called on him and meanwhile AngelLove is threatening to call him names and throw boiling water on him.

Whatever I think of nakedness in parks, I do think that boiling strangers is probably worse.....

A few years ago a man stood in front of a bus I was on at a busy junction in Brixton and took his clothes off. Shoppers looked aghast and traffic came to a standstill until eventually a lady bustled into the road, plonked down her shopping bag and berated him to get dressed - which he did. Most entertaining.

WelshBoris · 04/06/2007 17:47

Chirpygirl don't you live in Swansea?

beckybrastraps · 04/06/2007 17:50

Well - if he put his pants on when he saw you then I doubt he was intending anything other than a good airing.

I would have laughed and let him get on with it TBH.

Strange behaviour certainly, but it doesn't sound sinister.

Blu · 04/06/2007 17:56

Snort at Boris

Booboobedoo · 04/06/2007 18:06

It's more about offended sensibility than morality/legality isn't it?

I understand why you called the police, but no-one on this thread has really come up with a reason that this is Just Wrong.

I, too, at the flesh-coloured tracksuit.

Did he look like Peter Kay?

Did it hang to the right?

It could have been him

Booboobedoo · 04/06/2007 18:14

Except Cod.

I don't ACTUALLY walk the streets with a kettle, waiting for naked weirdos to scald.

And the name's LoveAngel.

SueBaroo · 04/06/2007 18:28

I think it's one of those situations where one persons right to self-expression rather conflicts with another persons right not to be confronted with nudity. Even in countries where nudity is fine and dandy thankyouverymuch, there are places set aside, and if nudity offends you, you don't have to go there.

FrannyandZooey · 04/06/2007 18:32

I don't have a problem with the nudity per se, but also would have been alarmed about what else he might do next

it does tend to indicate slight unpredictability and willingness to ignore social norms, to say the least

pointydog · 04/06/2007 18:38

yeah, he might have scored a goal or something franny

FrannyandZooey · 04/06/2007 18:39

I don't like unpredictability in strangers

it Unnerves me

it's like clowns, nobody likes them. You never know what the dickens they are going to do next.

Bumsnet · 04/06/2007 18:40

Or done something with the corner flag

Bumsnet · 04/06/2007 18:40

Rather apt name change.

SueBaroo · 04/06/2007 18:41

ewww..clowns. Now they should be banned.
