To not expect to see a naked man playing football in the park...

I had a friend staying over the weekend and we decided to take DD to the park at about 10 on Sunday morning. We walked up the road toward the entrance as as we got closer I could see teh whole park was empty apart from a 'large' man playing football in what appeared to be a skintight beige trousers and top.
My friend and I both stopped as he bent over and realised that he was actually stark bollock naked. He spotted us and put on some skimpy pants, and then carried on kicking a ball against the kids playground fence.

I called the police as I didn't fancy approaching him and they duly turned up and escorted him home. Apparently he thought it was most unfair as he didn't see what he had done wrong because he put his pants on when he saw us!

I don't think my friend will be back anytime soon.....

Have you seen all those amazing photos of naked bods in a multi storey car park in Amsterdam? Very eye catching.

LoveAngel · 04/06/2007 14:43

PMSL.

I refuse to get into a philosphical debate about why public nudity is just unattractive, impractical and unnecessary on so many levels.

Please...please don't make me.

ringing the police is a bit ott imo. There was no one there so he was nude, when yoiu arrived he put pants on. no you shouldn't have to see it but its hardly indecent exposure if he dressed - however small his pants were.

Would you have reacted the same if it was a naked,slim,toned,25 year old?

newlifenewname · 04/06/2007 14:44

Come on LoveAngel, you know you want to!

I can start a special naked debate group for you AND let you wear pants.

i can think of a few men i wouldnt mind seeing naked in a park, but on the whole i think i am more of the "put it away , theres a love" kind of person

he does sound as though he had some sort of special needs, tho

NotQuiteCockney · 04/06/2007 14:48

It's more likely he'd be a vulnerable person who'd maybe escaped from some sort of sheltered housing? I do think nudity in the park (and thinking it was ok now he'd put pants on) indicates something missing.

LoveAngel · 04/06/2007 14:49

LMAOOOO

Oh Lawd @ newlife

p.s. I would have rung the police, too. Probably would have shouted 'Oi! Why haven't you got any keks on, you sicko?' really loudly, too. Possibly would have thrown some scalding water on his bits if I'd had some to hand, too. But, hey, that's just me :-)

I am afraid the thread is making me laugh. Yes, it's a bit strange. In England it isn't actually illegal - it's conduct that might cause a breach of the peace which is illegal which is something that offends people so walking with a dead pig in a Muslim area or even public breastfeeding or walking topless into the shops by the beach in Brighton. Therefore as the UK culture changes what might be illegal changes. It's very interesting. When I go out to the local bank now at school time I often feel I am the only woman at local school collection time who isn't not only covered, in full Muslim stuff but only one in a skirt etc. The time might come when my normal dress might be as in the Victorian age, scandallous (we used to cover piano legs so worried were they about ankles and legs being shown).

Judy1234 · 04/06/2007 15:23

..also reminds me of Bikram yoga which I sometimes do and there are lots of men who do it and sometimes the odd one wears very skimy very tight swimming trunks. Not a good look.

colditz · 04/06/2007 15:27

That wasn't us with the piano legs, Xenia, that was the Americans - although it did start crossing over with the delicate Society ladies.

LoveAngel · 04/06/2007 15:37

yes, Xenia - what is and isn't acceptable in any society changes with the times. And in THIS time in THIS country, public nudity by a grown man in a park is still fecking weird.

madamez · 04/06/2007 15:39

Kerrysmum - everyone is naked sometimes. Or do you think the treat of Paedos Everywhere is so great that now the only way to demonstrate that one is not a nonce is to wear undies even in the bath?
FWIW I wouldn't have rung the police and don't actually see why the chap was still unacceptable even after he'd put his pants on. (this is not a matter of aesthetics - a man wearing nothing but pants, whatever the Fashion Police might think of said pants or said man's body, is not indecently exposing himself because he's covered up his willy and nuts.)

When I was a guide we were staying at a youth hostel on the south coast somewhere. We went for a walk, but it was really hot, so we just wnet down onto the beach, which of course turned out to be a nudist area, and we refused to budge (it was very hot). Guider got it in the neck from the nudists about us wearing clothes, we thought it was hsyterically funny (god, we must have been so ^rude ) And of course as soon as we got back to the hostel we all 'phoned our parents...

DrNortherner · 04/06/2007 15:57

I'd ahve called the police too. It;s rather odd for a grown man to be playing footie in a park alone naked doncha think? It's not the norm.

Judy1234 · 04/06/2007 16:32

I accept it's unusual and there are a lot of mad people around. I was talking to someone who made a film a long while ago about nudists. One teenage girl who had very strong views on the subject said she'd take part as long as they properly portrayed her. The editors in charge refused to show her footage naked. They had no problems with toddlers or adults but they obviously thought at 13 or 14 she wasn't capable of consent nor should her parents consent on her behalf.

SueBaroo · 04/06/2007 16:36

Xenia, that is very odd of them.

However, I still don't want to see naked people just wandering about on the street.

LynetteScavo · 04/06/2007 16:38

Can you imagine a naked bloke sitting opposite you on the tube? Clothes were invented for a reason, and not just for protection. Would you want to sit on a park bench after some fat sweaty bare bottom had been there?

Anna8888 · 04/06/2007 16:41

I hate public nudity. There's a tramp who hangs out on the Avenue Niel which I walk along to go shopping and she's forever washing her bottom in one of the public fountains in full view of the traffic, passers-by etc. Nauseating.

bookwormmum · 04/06/2007 16:45

It's a bit much being naked in a park at 10am but being a naturist isn't about sex is it? I went to a swimming pool in Slovenia recently where they had saunas and there were some quite small children wandering around with adults, most of them starkers too. Only one man covered himself up when he saw me. I saw some funny old sights that day (my dp swore blind he'd lost his appetite after he saw one woman nude in the sauna) and to be honest it just got tiresome rather than embarrassing when another pair of gonads went past. I think it depends on the culture of the country you're in and in this country, we're not comfy with the idea of adult nudity in public. (Which may or may not be to do with our cold climate....) I agree it raises questions of how do you explain adult nudity being alright on some occasions/some people and then not being alright on others to children. Maybe someone from a country where public nudity is more common can clarify that one?

Judy1234 · 04/06/2007 16:46

...accepting the points about sweat on tube seats... okay. Just reading about a new tribe found in Brazil. Even they wear penis gourds.
