AIBU to report her for benefit fraud...

Very long story short. Person I know has been claiming benefits for at least 7 years I've known her.
Now this is a case of sour grapes, she misrepresented herself to me and basically used me for all she could get out of me, and me being stupid and gullible and so happy that someone liked me that I gave her everything I could.
I've been stewing on this for months and my mental health has broken down to the point I just can't get out of bed. I have nothing and nobody left.
She is a dog walker/boarder, horse trader and now a scrap metal merchant.
Should I report her or should I just put it down to experience?

I think you're wasting an awful lot of emotional energy on this - maybe get some support for your own mental health and focus on getting better rather than brooding on your 'revenge'?

That said, if you're 100% sure, just make the call and see what happens.

Rachc81 · 17/08/2018 19:02

I personally wouldn't report her just to make yourself feel better , it won't help . If you've known about it for 7 years then it can't have bothered you before you fell out so why now ? Resentment will eat you up and the only person who suffers is you ! Let it go and move on

Racecardriver · 17/08/2018 19:04

Report. The welfare system will crash if we allow people to defraud it.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/08/2018 19:05

Poloshot how do you know she's French????

OP you were ok with the transgressions until you fell out with this person, yes? So your motivation for reporting is what? Revenge? Spite?

Report her.

LeftRightCentre · 17/08/2018 19:10

Report her.

Bezm · 17/08/2018 19:11

Of course they should be reported. The welfare state is on its knees! Giving money to people who are working means that less money is available for those who are unable to work. I absolutely don't mind paying my taxes and National insurance but will not knowingly subsidise those who exploit the system.
Regarding how you feel about this person, it's not uncommon to feel so bad about someone who has taken advantage of you. But it's time to let go now. Don't let the actions in one person impact so negatively on you. Report her, then put it to of your mind,

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 17/08/2018 19:18

Helloooo folks...just a reminder that many people IN WORK are entitled to benefits (some) to top up shit wages,

So be very careful before you report her that she is actually guilty.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 17/08/2018 19:22

I don't know about benefit fraud but if she's set up as a scrap metal dealer she should have all the relevant permits, waste carrier licences and insurances. You could ask the Environment Agency to check that she does. That's good for everybody.

anon138 · 17/08/2018 19:23

Why are people against reporting this woman? Once reported they will investigate her and if she isn't claiming fraudulently then she'll be allowed to carry on as she is. Of course if you have suspicions you should report her.

sweetsomethings · 17/08/2018 19:23

Delores and if people have nothing to hide then nothing will happen if they are reported

HollyBollyBooBoo · 17/08/2018 19:26

The State does - best line ever! This just sums up people's attitude! This mystical third party who have limitless funds.

TattyTshirt · 17/08/2018 19:27

If you know she is committing benefit fraud absolutely report her.

Melonsandberriew · 17/08/2018 19:28

Are you now claiming benefit because you can’t get out of bed and work?

sweetsomethings · 17/08/2018 19:30

Melons why does that matter ? Even if she was that isn’t fraud .

As Carer to a lady with disabilities and a vindictive ax partner I can tell you things DO happen when a person is reported. . My client had loads of benefits stopped when her fuckwit ex decided to be a twat and make a malicious call. It took weeks to sort out.

Hence my advice to the OP to be certain if her facts before reporting,

RageAgainstTheTagine · 17/08/2018 19:32

Revenge is not a nice feeling. It will haunt you. Don't do it.

Haha.....bullshit. Revenge, served properly, feels fucking awesome!

cumberlandsausages · 17/08/2018 19:32

How do you know she don't deserve them?

You seen her medical records then?

For all you know she could have cancer hiv any number of generic disorders and not tell you.

greendale17 · 17/08/2018 19:34

I would report her too.

sweetsomethings · 17/08/2018 19:35

Delores and she didn’t get any money backdated ? So wouldn’t have been out of pocket . Yes it was inconvenient for a few weeks but she had nothing to hide and It got sorted. Sounds like the OP knows for a fact she is claiming and can’t see anyone with 4 jobs being entitled to benefits with your average minimum wage job now just below the threshold .

sweetsomethings · 17/08/2018 19:37

Cumberland again if she has nothing to hide she has nothing to worry about

MrsChollySawcutt · 17/08/2018 19:37

Whether you report her or not the bigger issue here is your health. Can you explain why you feel this woman has had such a detrimental impact on you? Have you sought help, sounds like you are depressed and need to talk to someone in RL.

User12879923378 · 17/08/2018 19:39

Are you on another planet? If benefits are all you have and they're stopped for weeks because of a malicious allegation how do you pay for food and bills and care?

pasttimes11 · 17/08/2018 19:41

To all those saying report, and if she's innocent nothing will happen.....

WRONG, they'll stop the benefits immediately while they investigate. For fucks sake they don't need reasons these days to stop money, it's shameful how they're treating people. Sanctions, homelessness, foodbanks etc. Get on your high horse about those things, don't be the cause of wrecking someone's life.
