To take my 10 year old to my hair colour appointment...

It’s today and I have no other childcare options as someone’s let me down. I can take his book and tablet and few snacks. It should only be a couple of hours but is it not the done thing :-/

I don’t see the issue at all. If they can entertain themselves and not cause chaos then it should be fine..

I take mine aged 3 and 8 every single time, so every 6 weeks they have to endure the hairdressers for a few hours whilst I get coloured. I take the iPads and headphones and they watch a film.
What do you think single parents do if they don’t have childcare Hmm

Also both have come with me to beautician appointments since birth. Not an issue as long as they’re well behaved

Not a problem. It’s not ideal for you because you won’t get to relax as much but no one else will be bothered by s child just quietly getting on with stuff.

At 10 he should be more than able to sit quietly for a couple of hours and entertain himself. I have taken my 4 year old DD very occasionally and she colours in or chats to the hairdresser (saves me doing it).

It is less relaxing with her there cos I'm obviously still in "parent mode" but she knows not to run around or disturb other people. I do go to a little local salon though so not a very busy town centre one.

What do you think the problem will be? A few times my 8 year old has had to come with me not by choice but hes always survived.

I'd leave him at home if your comfortable with it.
My 10yr olds are fine for anything up to 3 hrs.

Oops posted too soon, will he be ok with that or will he get bored and play up? You know him. My son would have been fed up but ok as a one-off.

Of course you can. Just download a film or a new app. I'm a lone parent. I used to take a 6 and 8 year old. That was fun Hmm

Providing he’s well behaved I don’t see a problem. I’m a beauty therapist and we have clients bring their children in, which is fine but some of them are horrendously behaved and it affects the enjoyment of the treatments for the other customers usually due to the noise.

Wouldn't leave him home alone at that age though.

is he sensible enough to go out and get a comic and some sweets if there's shops nearby?

I'd go with that as a bribe... "if you are good for the first half you can go get some sweets for the last half" ...mind that's no good if he is likely to abscond with your tenner or be overcome with fear in the newsagents, but mine would have been okay with that at ten.

I've taken my DD since she was an infant.

As long as she's had something to do she's always been fine about it.

I think its more that this subject has come up a lot over the years, Normally it is about younger children though and not a 10 year old.

He’s 10, he’s not going to be running round throwing things!

He’s old enough to sit quietly with a book or tablet (please use headphones though!) and not disturb anyone. Bribe him with a McDonald’s/sweets/a comic etc afterwards if he behaves

Sorry wrong choice of words but mainly because I never have had to take my kids as normally work around dh and I’ve never see people do the same in my salon.

Sounds fine. She may enjoy watching people get their hair done. Also if she has her tablet I'm sure she will be entertained. Where I live a lot of parents take their children to hair appointments and no one minds.

My mum always used to take me to her appointments during the holidays! I was a massive bookworm though so it never bothered me, or our hairdresser :) then when I was about 13 I started to wander around the shops while she was having her hair done :) I'd think its fine!
