Superdrug has closed on our high street.

That's a bad thing, more to do with our high street than Superdrug, I assume?

Ours closed then reopened as Savers, which I understand is the budget version of the chain.

Boswellox · 15/08/2018 22:28

Thanks nearlynearlytherenow I didn't realise Superdrug had bought Savers. We have a Savers already. I wonder how many shops we assume are small scale or independent have actually been "borged" by corporate entities?

We have a Superdrug on our small High Street, only there for about 3 years, and I amazed it is still going - it’s huge and never seems to be anyone in it. There were two other independent chemists plus a good Boots and a supermarket very close and Superdrugs already in the two neighbouring shopping areas so not sure where they thought the custom was going to come from - which it hasnt .

dementedpixie · 15/08/2018 22:35

Ours turned into Savers too

userxx · 15/08/2018 22:37

Ours closed down too, no idea what is there now.

Shadow01 · 15/08/2018 22:40

On the other hand despite us having a Superdrug, Boots, Savers and Bodycare in the town centre and a 2nd Boots on a retail park, Superdrug are opening a second store on our second retail park.

MozzchopsThirty · 15/08/2018 22:46

I love Superdrug
Much better value than boots

polkadotpixie · 15/08/2018 23:01

Our Superdrug is massive and always heaving...doesn't matter when I go in, it's busy

I don't think they're in any trouble (I'd be gutted if they were though!)

keepingbees · 15/08/2018 23:02

Superdrug has really upped its game recently I've found. Very on trend, modern and hot on no animal testing. But that said my local on is often empty or just a few people wandering round.
Our boots is abysmal and I don't know how it keeps open. It's always empty, seems expensive and old fashioned.

SimonBridges · 15/08/2018 23:02

We have a brand new sparkly one!

megletthesecond · 15/08/2018 23:04

We have a new Savers. I'm discovering all sorts of bargains.
Superdrug still has a large prime spot in the middle of town. Seems to be popular for make up these days.

Fiveletters · 15/08/2018 23:07

Recently moved to a new village and we have a Superdrug. I love it. Haven’t been to boots since.

leccybill · 15/08/2018 23:08

I've rediscovered my love for Superdrug. Cheap make up, good skincare ranges, good offers on perfumes and I can get my eyebrows threaded for £6! DD loves the pink carrier bags too Smile

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 15/08/2018 23:08

Our town centre is opening a second Superdrug!

NorthenderNamechanger · 15/08/2018 23:20

Our local Boots is beyond abysmal. More like post apocalyptic. The only shower gel they stock is Fenjal Envy or Original Source EnvyEnvy. The shelves are otherwise all empty apart from beige tights and the floor is in rivalry with WHSmiths in a shitness contest (and winning).

So yeah, I think our Superdrug is safe.

(We do have the Good Boots though, which I am prepared to walk several miles to because it is a gigantic wonderland full of all the good stuff.)

PodgeBod · 15/08/2018 23:22

Apparently Superdrug is going to start doing Botox. Might drum up a bit of business?

vampirethriller · 16/08/2018 08:44

A second Superdrug has just opened where I am, we've already got Savers, Body Care and two Boots. No idea why anyone thought we needed another.

runningkeenster · 16/08/2018 08:50

Yes I think Superdrug has upped its game too. Very good value skincare eg their Vitamin E range and they have enough staff. Boots is pretty dire in most places, poorly stocked and staffed, except for the odd larger store which has all the posh brands in it.

DGRossetti · 16/08/2018 09:20

Can't help but feel Boots will be the next to go. Lloyds have been slowly upping their game.

ToadOfSadness · 16/08/2018 09:22

We don't have a Superdrug, only a small Boots which isn't worth bothering with. The next closest one is absolutely useless, big shop, shelves muddled so you can't find what you are looking for, assuming they stock it, which they don't. I have been there several times and failed to find what I need so won't be going back when I can find it in the supermarket.

I used to spend hours in Underwoods until Boots took it over, it was much better than Boots.

Ohhbollix · 16/08/2018 09:25

The Superdrug in our small town has just had a refurb and looks great. On the other hand the Boots is absolutely awful; dirty, tired and under-stocked. I can only assume that the bulk of their custom is the pharmacy.

groundcontroltomontydon · 16/08/2018 09:36

Superdrug is brilliant esp its own-brand stuff (no animal testing, lots of vegan products) and it has great offers (I do like a proper bargain). I love its own-brand skin care (the Optimum range is lovely). Much prefer it to Boots.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 16/08/2018 09:44

Savers has been the value brand of Superdrug for years. About 15 years ago when all the more stores shut down a savers appeared in our little highland town I guess it did well because it was upgraded to a Superdrug a few years after that and is still going.
I rarely see it packed but there’s always people in it and it’s the o my real place to buy make up unless you do a 50 mile round trip.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 16/08/2018 09:51

I haven't shopped in a Superdrug for about 5 years. I'm not sure why, there's 2 stores in my city centre, but I always seem to want to go elsewhere.

MadisonAvenue · 16/08/2018 10:38

We don't have a Superdrug anymore. We had one and it closed. Some years later it reopened in a different location, and then closed. It reopened as a Savers which, yep, closed.
