Broken my veganism today

Stepstepmother · 15/08/2018 21:12

And had to tell someone!

I’ve been a vegan for a few years - for environmental reasons and the argument that it’s much more possible to feed the world when we eat a plant based diet. It’s genuinely been a sacrifice as I love eating meat and fish and dairy - but I’ve done it. Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of giving myself a secret day off. Just one day, then back to it. That day was today. So I’ve eaten...

A buttery cheese croissant for breakfast
Rare steak with beef dripping chips and creamed spinach for lunch
A chicken thigh pita with halloumi cheese, caramelised onions, and garlic aoli for dinner.

It’s all been epic. And totally secret. I’m back on the straight and narrow vegan route again tomorrow and will look forward to my next cheat day in a few years time. But I just had to share.

(I know I’ve posted in AIBU - so, was I unreasonable?)

Honestly this is getting ridiculous
Because people disagree with you? You posted for opinions.

NicknameMustbeBetween4and30Cha · 16/08/2018 00:23

This is turning into a pretty childish argument. Maybe time to step away from the keyboard.

Perfectly1mperfect · 16/08/2018 00:23

Stepstepmother

If tomorrow someone asks you how long you have been vegan for what will you say ? 3.5 years would be a lie.

@Stepstepmother

Again, I repeat. 3.5 fucking years of strict veganism!!! That’s not the same as a weekly steak

As a pp said, do you want a MEDAL for 3.5 years of strict veganism? Or a badge of honour?

Get over yourself. You are not special, and you are not a vegan.

As someone said earlier, what was the point of your thread? To get loads of praise for being a vegan for 3.5 years, eating a fat meaty steak, and then going back to 'veganism' again?

Pathetic.

No, she really isn't

Now you're getting it!

rainbowsandsmiles · 16/08/2018 00:24

The thing I think with veganism is that it's a way of life, not a diet. I eat a lot of vegan food, more vegan than not, but I'd never claim to be one as I do occasionally eat meat, or cheese. If you were truly vegan (I know a few) it's to do with not wanting to consume anything that comes from animals, or taking anything from them for our own gain and at their expense.

butterflysugarbaby · 16/08/2018 00:24

@nickname

This is turning into a pretty childish argument. Maybe time to step away from the keyboard.

And who is THAT aimed at? The people who don't agree with you and the OP? Wink

lizzie1970a · 16/08/2018 00:25

Yes. The 'true' vegans can't come up with any answers. Just making stuff up as they go along of what they think being a vegan is. Very sanctimonious some of them too. A lot have asked for clarity about when they think she can call herself a vegan again but none of them can answer it.

butterflysugarbaby · 16/08/2018 00:25

@Stepstepmother you are coming across VERY badly now, and are being incredibly rude.

I think YOU need to step away from the keyboard.

PurpleDaisies · 16/08/2018 00:27

Why does this one day matter so much?
You chose to go on a meat binge. Not you slipped up and gave in to a dirty burger. You deliberately and calmly decided to eat a load of meat and dairy.

That is not consistent with describing yourself as a vegan, 3.5 years of service not withstanding.

lizzie1970a · 16/08/2018 00:27

Still skirting the question Hotblack. What a trite answer. Basically you're saying never. But who cares what you think anyway. You're not in charge of who calls themselves a vegan.

Step - don't keep asking them. They can't answer you directly and they're just on a wind up now.

HotblackDesiatoto · 16/08/2018 00:27

Why does this one day matter so much

You've been told over and over again.

I would report your epic breaking of guidelines but they're funny so I won't/

Serious actual question OP. Are you, right now, on a day when you ate more animal products by far than I, a committed carnivore, a vegan, strict or otherwise? A straight yes or no, if you wouldn't mind?

Plenty of people are answering LIZZIE, but you are choosing to ignore.

ImAIdoot · 16/08/2018 00:27

If tomorrow someone asks you how long you have been vegan for what will you say ? 3.5 years would be a lie.

Yeah, unless from now on she says "x years with one brief lapse".

@OP I don't think you're alone, I've known many a vegetarian/vegan to be tempted, and a few have succumbed. Bacon, steak, cheese and boiled eggs seem to be the killers.

Stepstepmother · 16/08/2018 00:28

@butterflysugarbaby I probably have been rude. But I don’t think I’m coming across badly. I think I’ve actually been very calm and measured in putting my post of view across.

I have eaten a vegan diet for 3.5 years. Tomorrow, I will continue to eat a vegan diet for the foreseeable future. Does that suit everyone?

OP posts:
rosiejaune · 16/08/2018 00:28

@lizzie1970a

We have been very clear about it. There is no specific time limit, because it's about motivation and commitment to protecting animal rights. We don't know when or if the OP will have those things. She certainly doesn't now (nor has she had them for the last 3.5 years, as she's stated herself).

lizzie1970a · 16/08/2018 00:28

Step. Get back to being a vegan tomorrow. And call yourself a vegan and know lots think you can.

NicknameMustbeBetween4and30Cha · 16/08/2018 00:28

And who is THAT aimed at? The people who don't agree with you and the OP? wink

Not especially, no. It's advice for anyone who's getting worked up and being rude to strangers on an internet forum.

Misericord · 16/08/2018 00:28

Vegan is definitely just a diet.

HotblackDesiatoto · 16/08/2018 00:28

Yes. The 'true' vegans can't come up with any answers. Just making stuff up as they go along of what they think being a vegan

Wjo are you referring to?
We're not making anything up, its right there in the dictionary. Vegan: someone who does not consume animal products.
Does that describe OP?

PurpleDaisies · 16/08/2018 00:29

@butterflysugarbaby I probably have been rude. But I don’t think I’m coming across badly. I think I’ve actually been very calm and measured in putting my post of view across.

You have been calling posters cunts and telling them to fuck off all over the thread.

Do you honestly think that is calm and measured?

HotblackDesiatoto · 16/08/2018 00:29

I have eaten a vegan diet for 3.5 years. Tomorrow, I will continue to eat a vegan diet for the foreseeable future. Does that suit everyone?

Nobody cares. Can you answer the question?
