To think this is unhygienic?

AIBU to think that my PILs decision to lay full carpets in their bathroom and kitchen is unhygienic? I’d also have thought a fire hazard in the kitchen??

I really struggle with hygiene practices in their home generally (e.g. not installing sinks in two of their three toilets, so people have to wash their hands in the kitchen if they bother at all), so not sure if I’m just making this into something it’s not? They say they like it as they like warm feet...?!

I bought a house years ago with carpet tiles in the bathroom, my first job was to rip them out which in turn led to redoing the whole floor underneath as the urine that had sat in the carpet had rotted the floor boards!! It's just vile!! 🤮

My parents built a house with a carpeted bathroom, within a year it was torn out and tiled.

God this is such an old fashioned British thing. So unhygienic.

RoseWhiteTips there was a thread a few weeks ago about class and cleaning, where people were falling over themselves to say they spent the morning mucking out the horses and wouldn’t wash their hands before knocking up a bit of lunch, wouldn’t bother washing their hands after a nappy change (so proving their upper class ways, hygiene only being for the bourgeoise). It was quite bizarre. I’m no clean freak but only on MN have I come across a body of people so dismissive of good loo-to-food prep hand hygiene.
