To take dds pet rodent with us in a no pets caravan holiday?

It's a well known British holiday site.
They do have pets on site but not in the nicer caravans.
It's a small pet rodent. Cage is secure and said rodent has never gotten out.

It might smell a bit but obviously can spray and air out the room.

Bullet as I've said before I wouldn't take the thing if it applied to all pets and not just dogs so that wouldn't be an issue. As I've said I wasn't thinking about allergies given the site has dogs on site everywhere I was just thinking it was due to damage reasons. Especially as the site itself has various animals on site of its own.

Obviously I was just asking a question but instead of saying have you thought it might be due to allergies not just dogs or realising that I am actually listening to what people are saying it's easier for people to pile in with the name calling and Ohh your so spesh bullshit.

I've been on Mumsnet for more that a decade and have a thick skin.

Pet rodent? Why don't you just say what animal it it is?

Pissedoffneigh · 14/08/2018 10:49

It's not a rat.
It's a Russian dwarf hamster. It doesn't really make a difference though what it is really. I was just asking opinion.

Taking aside the allergy issue - which wouldn’t have occurred to me - rodents do smell, no matter how clean you keep them. A caravan is a small enclosed space, the smell might think stick about for a while.

If the rat managed to escape it could cause issues for the staff as well? Especially if you’re anywhere near the complex.

I must admit, I’d always thought rules like this were to stop animals running about on the furniture.

You’ve had a bit of a rough ride - don’t forget, AIBU is basically entertainment so it can be tough. You weren’t wrong to ask, at least you didn’t just go ahead and do it.

mumsastudent · 14/08/2018 10:49

op is asking & trying to figure out rights & wrongs & asking caravan site she is asking for opinions

Bellyscreen · 14/08/2018 10:50

Sorry, I thought rat as well, must be the word rodent Blush

Pumpkintopf · 14/08/2018 10:51

Op why not just telephone the site, then you'll get an answer straightaway and can make plans accordingly.

ThisIsntMeHonestGuv · 14/08/2018 10:53

So is it no pets or no dogs?

You have said both in different posts.

troodiedoo · 14/08/2018 10:53

You already know though. It says no pets.

It doesn't say no pets except well behaved Russian dwarf hamsters.

What you are really asking is "do the rules apply to me?"

The reasons for the rules are their business, nobody else.

Fresta · 14/08/2018 10:56

That's why I was asking- a pet rodent could be anything from a mouse to a chinchilla, guinea pig or rat.

The staff are morel likely to accept a small hamster staying a cage than a rat or guinea pig so I'd just ask. Maybe they could move you all to a pet friendly room if they won't allow it in the one you've booked.

Thymeout · 14/08/2018 10:56

Could you take it and leave the cage in the car? Then your ds could visit and do whatever he does with it. Hamsters don't need a lot of running around, like a rat. It would be like having an annexe and the caravan would still be pet-free.

MidniteScribbler · 14/08/2018 10:57

I travel a lot with dogs for competitions, and people who break the rules ruin it for everyone else. I've lost count over the years of the number of accommodation places that have now banned pets outright because people didn't adhere to the rules, which makes it harder on all of us.

No, don’t do it. Completely selfish of you if you do. The place would need a deep clean afterwards.

Pissedoffneigh · 14/08/2018 11:01

Thisisntme
I thought it said pets but as I've said above when I've gone to the terms and conditions online it only mentions dogs.

lottiegarbanzo · 14/08/2018 11:01

The thing is that our opinion counts for nothing, against the site's rules. The only course of action is to ask - phone them, ask, then you'll know.

Certainly I've come across house rentals where 'no pets' means 'we reserve the right to say no but really, no large dogs, we're open to negotiation about house-trained cats or hamsters'.

But, this is a contractual situation. It doesn't matter in what way you break a contract, or lie on an insurance application. It's the fact you lied at all that invalidates the contract. Don't take that risk. Be honest and open.

TheIcon · 14/08/2018 11:02

Leave your rodent at home...

And his pet.

nurgh · 14/08/2018 11:03

Russian dwarf hamsters are so cute, photos please! Misses point of thread

Peaspleaselouise · 14/08/2018 11:07

Has it occurred to you that many of the caravans are actually like to be owned privately and sub-let through the site? I’m a caravan owner and would be v annoyed if someone brought a pet rodent with them due to the smell.

Just because it doesn’t specifically say ‘no hamsters’ doesn’t mean it’s ok...there’s some hilarious posts on mumsnet saying “but they didn’t say I couldn’t” to ridiculous things (taking a child to a job interview etc).

You’re being very entitled

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 14/08/2018 11:09

I don't think it applies to caged pets. Ring them and check. You can't keep a caravan allergy free on a site where dogs are allowed in other caravans anyway so I doubt it's to do with allergies.

Sleeplikeasloth · 14/08/2018 11:10

If it only bans dogs, you're fine, but if all pets, best check. I'd be tempted to sneak it in though personally.

Sweetsongbird1 · 14/08/2018 11:12

Ring up and see. The only reason I’d be cautious is incase the next users had animal allergies

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 14/08/2018 11:14

I think you're being a little dim.

It says no pets. So, you know, taking it would be against the policy and you could be asked to leave with no refund.

Just leave the rat at home

Pissedoffneigh · 14/08/2018 11:15

I wasn't being entitled, I was asking opinion. I've clearly said if they say no I won't be taking it. I've also clearly said I had thought that the reason they allowed pets on site but not in the brand new caravans was purely because they did not want dogs to damage the brand new caravans.

Entitled would be no you can't take it and me doing so anyway. I was asking opinion.

For example my tenancy agreement on our old home said no pets but over the years we have had budgies, hamsters, rabbits etc all with permission from the landlord because that's not the damage they are worried about.

Hence why I was asking.
Last time we visited there was a skunk on site.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 14/08/2018 11:19

A skunk? What as a pet? Which holiday park is this so I can avoid at all cost!!!
