Looking at some of these 'fairy doors' - they're not even good! I've seen beautiful ones hidden away before, and actually quite liked them, but this is just leaving your kids toys in the woods, surely?

Or am I a mean old lady? Grin

I used to love imagining fairies etc when I was a child. Didn’t need plastic shit to ruin it for me.

I love the word derps. Is it the new twerp?

BrynhildurWhitemane · 14/08/2018 05:46

I think derps is American.

Oh, and Katielouise, I live in a rural area, and animals die all the time from eating plastic crap. Ignorant people go into the countryside all the time putting animals at risk because they see the countryside as entertainment for them and not as a working, living, real landscape.

MarthasGinYard · 14/08/2018 05:49

There's an area local beauty here blighted by minging old dummies dangling from trees.

tenredthings · 14/08/2018 06:58

When dc were little we'd make fairy tea party's with moss table cloths and acorn cups and leave them for the fairy's to find. You just need imagination, nature supplies the rest !

Aeroflotgirl · 14/08/2018 07:10

Yanbu stall, they look like they have just been dumped there, not nice looking at all.

MaisyPops · 14/08/2018 07:15

There are some miserable articles on this thread! And in real life too, if people are complaining! Bet the are the ones who hate Christmas, making sandcastles, going to the swings and slides when you're an adult, and all things that are 'fun' coz they're grumpy fuckers.
Love having fun. Love the beach. Love Christmas.
Think adults who go on children's play parks and use the equipment when there's kids to use it are a bit selfish though.

Don't like plastic tat in natural areas. Why is any less litter because someone's called it a fairy door? Bring the magic with some imagination, not some plastic crap.

MsOliphant · 14/08/2018 07:18

katielouise if you think plastic isn't harmful to wildlife then I'm afraid you are quite dim.

TroysMammy · 14/08/2018 07:22

One tiny little door is fine. Adding tat that makes it look like Steptoe's yard is wrong. Fairies would not want to draw attention to themselves.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/08/2018 07:24

What happens when all this stuff gets wet and rots, blows away? Who tidies it up?

TheGoddessFrigg · 14/08/2018 07:26

Woods are already magical. Why not show children the trees and flowers and wildlife - instead of relying on litter and tat?

I also have it on the best authority FAIRIES DO NOT USE PLASTIC Wink

Helmetbymidnight · 14/08/2018 07:29

piling up loose plasticround the base of a tree is a shit idea.

What she said.

PaintBySticker · 14/08/2018 07:36

“Fairies would not want to draw attention to themselves.” Grin

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 14/08/2018 07:43

If you want proper fairy doors, you need to go to this guy: twitter.com/woodcarver_t - his stuff is beautiful! (no plastic tat in sight, I hasten to add!)

KERALA1 · 14/08/2018 07:50

It's a balance. If beautifully done on a very small scale by the artistically talented in natural materials then I don't think people would mind. Large scale naff looking shite from b and q is an entirely different proposition!

jetSTAR · 14/08/2018 07:54

Use only natural materials. IMVHO that’s fine.

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/08/2018 07:54

It's furthering the idea that nature is boring and needs to be made interesting and "fun for kiddies" by adding man-made tat.

PolkerrisBeach · 14/08/2018 07:55

Agree that if the fairy doors were made from twigs, leaves and pebbles then there's no problem, the issue is the plastic shite.

I feel the same way about people leaving padlocks on bridges - just NO.

Skyejuly · 14/08/2018 07:56

Uh oh. I'm a ribbon serial tier!

PolkerrisBeach · 14/08/2018 07:57

This "fairy house trail" near me is gorgeous. No plastic shite in sight. And the dragon is magnificent.

ImAGoofyGoober · 14/08/2018 07:59

Have to agree. I’m in the nature is magical camp.

EduCated · 14/08/2018 08:02

If I call a crisp packet a fairy sleeping bag, does that mean it’s not litter?

CantankerousCamel · 14/08/2018 08:04

I have never understood the ‘fairy thing’

Changing your name to ‘pixie belle’ (by deed poll some times) and telling everyone you are a ‘creature of the forest’ whilst adorning your body in plastic fairy wings, ears and fake dreadlocks just seems so bizarre to me.

The whole thing is entirely based on image, so there is no spiritual or environmental justification for the ‘fairy way of life’ just lots of middle aged women with disposible bindis and environmentally damaging glitter stating they’re ‘at one with the fairies’

Bizarre.

gower4 · 14/08/2018 08:06

What's the problem with painting stones and leaving them for people to find? I can't see how that is harmful. Agree about the doors though.

CantankerousCamel · 14/08/2018 08:08

gower

Because the water course and the countryside don’t need loads of chemicals sapped into them
