To want a 5 seater car that actually seats 5 people?

Looking for a bigger car so we can get an adult in the back along with the two kids in HBB. So we can take a grandparent or friend along on a day trip. It seems I am the first person to have this idea as the only way to get a car wide enough is to buy a really long 7 seater. I don't want a massive 7 seater, I want a car a few inches wider so I can get a third person in the back! Does this really not exist?

I think the Citroen c4 (not the Picasso version) has 3 full seats. It's a normal hatchback size other than the width. After that you might be looking at suvs.

Renault scenics were always really good for this

I have a 5 seat renault scenic for the same reason, the citroen picasso is similar too. I'm thinking of Skoda Karoq for my next car as it has 'vario flex' seating (3 separate movable seats) in the back, which is what I have in the renault at the moment.

Child car seats take up a lot of space. Could one of the children sit in the front? There might be more room in the back for 2 adults and one child, rather than two child seats and an adult.

The C4 Picasso has 3 separate proper seats across the back, each takes isofix and is independently moveable. It's not actually any wider than most cars but just seems to have more room inside. Being able to put a car seat in the middle seat makes it so much easier as well

Pretty sure most people with 5 seater cars have thought about having 5 people in, and manage it quite easily. If you can't fit an adult inbetween 2 car seats either your car seats or the adult are too wide!

I have a Renault scenic for this very reason, I've got 2 hard back boosters and a stage 1 car seat in the back.

Volvo XC90 is a manageable size yet has masses of room inside. Seven proper seats and still loads of boot space too.
