AIBU to successfully lose a stone by Christmas?

Butterfly98 · 13/08/2018 16:57

I've just weighed myself for the 1st time since March and shockingly have put on half a stone! I had wanted to lose half a stone at the time but somehow managed to gain an extra half so now weigh 9 1/2 stone, I have a total of 1 stone to lose to get back to my usual weight of 8 1/2 stone. I'm 5ft 3 inches with a small build so any extra pounds do not suit me at all.... btw my clothes still fit as usual.... funnily enough I started exercising at home in March using light weights on arms, doing the plank and basic floor exercises so could this extra weight be muscle weight as my upper arms are firm or am I just kidding myself??!! I'm not a gym person but walk 3 miles about 3 times a week but less recently with school holidays etc.... so AIBU to actually lose 1 stone healthily by Christmas as have a few special occasions coming up? If anyone can enlighten me with nutrition and exercise advice then I'd love to hear from you.... I'm also interested to hear from anyone who managed to reach their target weight without starving themselves in the process!! FYI I'm not a breakfast person (toast mainly) but eat a healthy lunch and always cook a healthy dinner for us all but I snack a bit between meals (crisps and biscuits!!) as I often feel hungry 😋 TIA

If you go Keto you could easily lose that stone in a month without trying. If you don't know about Keo look it up. Alternatively if your veggie look into Dr Jason Fung The Obesity Code. whichever one will drop the stone in no time.

Butterfly98 · 13/08/2018 17:09

Thanks I will look up both of those, I'm not veggie but have thinking of a trial period for maybe a month to see if it will make a difference

You don't need to diet, cut out the crisps and biscuits and you'll lose that in no time!

Merryoldgoat · 13/08/2018 17:14

Easily in 4 months - that’s less than 1lb a week. I also recommend Keto - look at The Diet Doctor website.

Butterfly98 · 13/08/2018 17:22

@loveutothemoon you are right I should ban them from the house altogether so I won't be tempted! I don't want to teach my children bad habits either 😬 what can I replace them with that aren't boring? Or shall I just go cold turkey and hungry and will I just naturally adjust after a few weeks? Btw I do eat fruit but I read today that if you're trying to lose weight to avoid all the sweet ones which you've probably guessed are my favourite! Pineapple, berries, melon, mangos, pears and grapes are bought in this house every week (sometimes apples and tangerines too!)

Just don't snack at all. On anything. Cut out breakfast, light lunch and dinner and you'll lose a stone easily.
Having no snacks is a very good thing for the children too. there's no need for them or you to eat more than 3 times a day

AskMeHow · 13/08/2018 18:38

No need for a fad diet. Just cut out the snacks and be careful with portion sizes. Use my fitness pal to track calories.

PickAChew · 13/08/2018 18:43

Don't snack.

If you're genuinely wobbly hungry, with a couple of hours until dinner, have a handful of nuts. Not low calorie but nutritious and good for eradicating pangs. Cheese is reputed to have the same effect but it does unspeakable things to me.

PickAChew · 13/08/2018 18:46

Vandrew, you're basically saying don't eat much at all and you'll lose weight.

Butterfly98 · 13/08/2018 18:49

Any particular exercises recommended to really burn calories?

OP posts:
Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 13/08/2018 18:50

Snacks can be good and help you stay on track as long as you're eating the right things. Fruit, veg, lean meat, fat free yogurt are good snacks for weight loss.

SparkleBag · 13/08/2018 18:52

Cut out carbs and you'll lose it in no time at all.

Rightsaidmabel · 13/08/2018 19:06

Don't skip breakfast! What daft advice.Eat a healthy breakfast like meusli, fruit, yoghurt, eggs, give your body some food so you don't want to snack. If you do snack have healthy ones as pp suggests.Eat 3 balanced meals a day.Don't snack on junk.
Read up on healthy eating.
Cut out carbs ?Why, for the love of Mike? What happened to a decent balance of fats, carbohydrates and protein ?No need to go veggie, adjust your current eating preferences and you are more likely to succeed.
Read.Don't take random internet advice including mine !

@Butterfly98

You can't outrun a bad diet, as they, and you will only lose weight through CICO (calories in, calories out), but static/dynamic core exercises such as planks/sideplanks/Russian twists/alternate bird dogs (Google them!) and resistance work with kettlebells will help improve muscle tone.

goose1964 · 13/08/2018 19:20

Reduce portion sizes and give up snacking. I've done this for medical reasons and the weight is falling off despite being over 50

xJessica · 13/08/2018 19:22

I've lost just over a stone in 6 weeks doing slimming world so it's totally possible xx

I lost seven stone in a year so you can definitely do one stone in four months! It will take a lot of dedication and effort but if you’re willing, it will happen.

I did the 5:2 diet which worked really well for me and I exercised a lot.

ThistleAmore · 13/08/2018 20:00

PS - I'm veggie, and it does help, because your calorific choices are limited (assuming you don't live off chips, cheese and veggie Percy Pigs), but it's both probably a) a rather extreme way to try to lose weight and b) unlikely to work for you, if you're not already veggie, as all you'll end up doing is craving bacon sandwiches and kebabs. Wink

I know plenty of omnis who eat meat and maintain a weight that is acceptable to them - fish, chicken and lean pork are better choices than lamb etc.

Butterfly98 · 13/08/2018 20:11

Wow well done ladies especially to @goose1964 @Pinkvoid and @xJessica and anyone else I might have left out accidentally! Inspiring stories

I've lost 2 stone 4 lb in a few months just by cutting out snacks and reducing portion size and generally eating more healthily. I do a lot of walking and just trying to keep active

I've read quite a few times that losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise

Good luck!

Butterfly98 · 13/08/2018 20:36

@MyNameIsArthur another success story, well done u! I've often wondered if weight gain is more to do with diet rather than exercise, I guess I better start reducing the portion sizes and start using smaller plates! For a while this year I was using plates from a present given last Christmas but the only problem was the plates were huge so I was dishing up bigger portions than normal until I copped on!

It is. Honestly. You eat too much food, you put on weight. No wondering needed.

RibenaMonsoon · 13/08/2018 20:49

Another reccomendation for keto. I lost 3 stone of baby weight after having DS in about 4 months. It just dropped off.

The first week is an absolute bitch but if you can stick to it, it will come off easily and you will feel a lot healthier on the diet.

A lot of companies and diet websites indicate that consuming fat is the enemy, it's not. Sugar is. Sugar is the absolute worst thing you can eat if you want to lose weight and just be healthy in general. Particularly refined sugars.

Good luck, whatever you choose to do to lose the weight. You can do this.
