AIBU to successfully lose a stone by Christmas?

Butterfly98 · 13/08/2018 16:57

I've just weighed myself for the 1st time since March and shockingly have put on half a stone! I had wanted to lose half a stone at the time but somehow managed to gain an extra half so now weigh 9 1/2 stone, I have a total of 1 stone to lose to get back to my usual weight of 8 1/2 stone. I'm 5ft 3 inches with a small build so any extra pounds do not suit me at all.... btw my clothes still fit as usual.... funnily enough I started exercising at home in March using light weights on arms, doing the plank and basic floor exercises so could this extra weight be muscle weight as my upper arms are firm or am I just kidding myself??!! I'm not a gym person but walk 3 miles about 3 times a week but less recently with school holidays etc.... so AIBU to actually lose 1 stone healthily by Christmas as have a few special occasions coming up? If anyone can enlighten me with nutrition and exercise advice then I'd love to hear from you.... I'm also interested to hear from anyone who managed to reach their target weight without starving themselves in the process!! FYI I'm not a breakfast person (toast mainly) but eat a healthy lunch and always cook a healthy dinner for us all but I snack a bit between meals (crisps and biscuits!!) as I often feel hungry 😋 TIA

That's amazing @RibenaMonsoon to lose 3 stone so quickly! I'm liking the sound of Keto after just reading up about it. Carbs aren't cut out altogether just kept to a minimum, there's lots of healthy vegetables not much fruit it seems from my reading so far.... do u think it's safe eating a diet very high in fat on a long term basis as apparently some people choose it as a strict lifestyle choice after trying it got a few weeks? Btw I agree with u 100% about sugar....

fat free yogurt are good snacks for weight loss.

You do know they are full of sugar right?

RibenaMonsoon · 13/08/2018 21:29

It is definitely safe. As once your body becomes 'fat adapted' usually after 2 to 3 weeks. It auto burns fat as a main fuel source instead of carbohydrates. The trick is, once you get to your goal weight, choose a healthy diet that you can both enjoy and maintain your weight on. Not to get caught out eating high fat and re introducing a lot of carbs at the same time. If that makes sense.. If you are eating alot of both, you will just put the weight back on again.

But yes definitely safe, a lot of althetes now use the diet as well as it being recommended to a lot of diabetics.

thejeangenie36 · 13/08/2018 21:43

I'm a man and was 14st, so much heavier than you, but I lost a stone and a half in 6 months by cutting out sugar - and I mean absolutely all sugar, including hidden sugar - replacing this with healthy snacks like nuts, and doing HIIT a few times a week. Joe Wicks, though quite irritating, has some good videos on YouTube. He also has a good mantra of not starving yourself and basing your success on how you look and feel rather than what you weigh.

The weight has half come back on again since I stopped doing that mind!

Cuppaorwine · 13/08/2018 21:46

Eat less and move more honestly op you can loose s stone in a month

Butterfly98 · 13/08/2018 21:57

Thanks for the info @RibenaMonsoon, it's helped and yes I guess athletes wouldn't follow this diet unless it was healthy.... @thejeangenie36 u should be proud of yourself for losing that amount of weight even if u have put a bit back on! At least u know what to do now if u want to lose it again! I've just looked at Joe Wicks HIIT video, it looks manageable even though he is quite annoying😂

Drink plenty of water. Often when we think we're hungry, we're actually thirsty. Excercise wise, cardio is good for initially loosing weight to get to a place to tone up from, I'd recommend walking, swimming, skipping (boxer style), and dancing (loads of tutorials on youtube).

EyUpOurKid · 13/08/2018 22:51

Don't snack, eat more fruit/veg and reduce portion sizes. I've lost a stone in five weeks just by doing that. No sugary drinks, biscuits, crisps etc. A yoghurt is a treat.

I've got another stone to shift and I'll be happier, assuming it will take another month or so. Then I'll reassess if I need to drop more. I'm 5,3 and (now) 10 stone, I've always been a sturdier type of person so I'd be fine at this weight really.

ThistleAmore · 13/08/2018 23:52

@Butterfly98, a load of people have commented on your thread to say 'there is no such thing as a miracle diet, but if you eat less and move more, you'll probably lose a bit of weight, probably what you want to achieve'.

You've chosen to pick up on the 'OMG MIRACLE DIET!!!!' posts, though, which makes me think you're a bit b*ggered in the long term.

I'll say it slowly: WEIGHT LOSS SHOULD BE GRADUAL AND HABITUAL, BASED ON GOOD BEHAVIOURS.

Butterfly98 · 14/08/2018 10:02

@ThistleAmore calm down please and there's no need to be sarcy either! Apparently a lot of doctors recommend the Keto diet especially for diabetics. Surely u agree that reducing carbs is a good thing? It's different to eliminating them altogether from your diet which is a completely different story. You can see from my previous post that I queried the high fat content of Keto. I would never be one for fad diets in general but depending on what you read it seems the jury is still out on if Keto falls into a fad diet category or not....

Flightbite · 14/08/2018 14:39

@ThistleAmore @ThistleAmore I'll say it slowly....YOU'RE COMING ACROSS AS REALLY CONDESCENDING!

Flightbite · 14/08/2018 14:40

@Butterfly98 I'm considering the Keto diet, friend is doing really well on it. Like you a little concerned about the high fat element. Do come back and update if you give it a go.

Who ever recommended what ever diet you do drink loads of water, I agree!

Butterfly98 · 14/08/2018 19:57

@Flightbite yes I will update if I go ahead with the Keto diet properly.... today I had scrambled eggs on 1 slice of whole meal toast, tuna salad for lunch followed by an apple and a pear, grilled chicken and veggies for dinner followed by fresh pineapple (had to use it up as over ripe!) drank more water throughout the day and no junky snacks in between, but now I'm absolutely bloody starving, probably because of the reduced carbs eaten today! Must buy some healthy mixed nuts tomorrow

Chesntoots · 14/08/2018 20:25

I've lost 12kg in less than 6 weeks and nearly 5 inches off my waist.

Some of it coming off tablets and the rest is a juice diet with salmon salad at lunch. I'm not hungry, at all and I'm off snacks totally.

I no longer eat processed food and feel so much better. My IBS has just about gone and I have the occasional day where I eat what I want (like today - macaroni cheese and garlic bread!!)

Butterfly98 · 14/08/2018 21:27

Omg @Chesntoots that's nearly 2 stone you've lost in 6 weeks, so well done u! Are u planning on losing more and if so will u stay on that particular diet once you've hit your target?

You could lose 3 or 4 by Xmas if you stuck to low carb and exercise. Alas I can't stick to low carb but oh well.

Aroundtheworldandback · 14/08/2018 22:18

Yes I’ve done it- it’s miserable thoughSad I love my food. Skkpped breakfast and went to the gym- just lunch, supper and fruit for snacks. Miserable!! And guess what? I can start again as I’ve put it all back on!

GlitterGlassEye · 14/08/2018 22:28

You don’t need a diet at all. Just a few tweaks to your portion sizes and up the veg intake. Walk/jog/run as much as you can (I do twice a week). A HIIT done in 15 mins twice a day and you’ll lose that stone easily for xmas. You’re more likely to give up on a diet plan then you'll put the weight back on. So what’s the point? Just a slight lifestyle change is what you need.

Maelstrop · 14/08/2018 22:31

Piece of piss, OP. I dropped 10lbs in a week just by watching what I ate and removing ‘treats’ and booze.

Larasshadow · 14/08/2018 22:39

People are so hung up on weight, you said it yourself that your clothes still fit even though you have gained weight. Go by measurements instead.

I'm actually the heaviest I've ever been at 12 stone, 5'9 and size 12. I have a very physical job and don't look fat at all. I'm actually the same size I was when I was 10.5 stone.

Chesntoots · 15/08/2018 21:35

I want to lose another 5kg but I think that will be more difficult than the first lot. It was probably water loss.

I also quite like the diet I'm on so will probably stick to it. It also helps that I have invisilign alligners in so can't pick at food! I didn't realise how much I did it until I was forced to stop!!

GreenHatHacker · 15/08/2018 21:40

Invest in scales that show your body fat percentage, not just overall weight. That will help you work out whether you've changed your muscle to fat ratio. Keep your protein high if you are reducing the amount you eat - it will keep you full and help build & retain those muscles!

Ethylred · 15/08/2018 21:43

" good snacks for weight loss"

Please I'd like to become a virgin again. Who should I shag?

Butterfly98 · 16/08/2018 13:04

@GreenHatHacker how do those scales work that show your body fat percentage as I'm thinking of buying one, would u say they are fairly accurate?

loveyoutothemoon · 16/08/2018 13:16

Don't snack, or if you do, a very small amount of fruit (palm of your hand size).

I eat carbs, bread, potatoes etc, what I did was cut down (not totally cut out) on sweet stuff. Didn't do any more exercise than I normally do and lost 10 lbs in 8 weeks. Job done!
